July 19, 2011 | Tuesday | 6 Comments

You came, you saw, you voted, and you celebrated the possibility of Sexytimes for Turnip - now it’s time to proclaim Teh Winnah! With over 600 votes, the winner of the contest is The Mischief of the Mistletoe - Pudding Edition: This cover was, if I understand the email correctly, hand-drawn by Joyce, who has mad talent. Congratulations, Joyce! How excellent is that cover? I’d totally read that—and we all will, soon enough. I have heard tell that Lauren Willig sequestered herself in the Chamber of Turniptemptation, and will be gifting us and readers everywhere with Turnip’s missing scene. We… read more »

Photoshop Contest: Sexytimes for Turnip!

July 11, 2011 | Monday | 15 Comments

At RWA, I have a lot of silly conversations in the bar. What follows is the result of one of those silly bar conversations. It’s been awhile since we’ve done a Photoshop contest, but IT IS TIME. First, some backstory: Both of the RITA® Reader Challenge reviews for Lauren Willig’s Mischief of the Mistletoe referenced that the hero, one Turnip Fitzhugh, didn’t get a sex scene! Emily wrote, “I love Willig’s light-hearted style. That being said her books work better for me when they are darker.  Missing is the steamy sex from the first three Pink books. She writes loves… read more »

RITA Reader Challenge Review: The Mischief of the Mistletoe by Lauren Willig

June 26, 2011 | Sunday | 7 Comments

Abby reviewed this book for the RITA® Reader Challenge, and she had nearly the same reaction as Emily. Plot Summary: Arabella Dempsey’s dear friend Jane Austen warned her against teaching. But Miss Climpson’s Select Seminary for Young Ladies seems the perfect place for Arabella to claim her independence while keeping an eye on her younger sisters nearby. Just before Christmas, she accepts a position at the quiet girls’ school in Bath, expecting to face nothing more exciting than conducting the annual Christmas recital. She hardly imagines coming face to face with French aristocrats and international spies… Reginald “Turnip” Fitzhugh-often mistaken… read more »

RITA Reader Challenge Review: The Mischief of the Mistletoe by Lauren Willig

June 08, 2011 | Wednesday | 20 Comments

Emily also reviewed this book for the RITA® Reader Challenge, and like a reviewer who I’ll publish soon, wished for a little more steam. Plot Summary: Arabella Dempsey’s dear friend Jane Austen warned her against teaching. Romance in Academia: A Link Roundup

January 28, 2010 | Thursday | 24 Comments

Grab your lasso and your chaps, because we’re going back to college to round up some romance in academia links. First: on 23 February at 12:30 pm at Brandeis University, documentary filmmaker Laurie Kahn, who directed Tupperware!, a documentary about Tupperware and the women behind it, for PBS’ American Experience, will be talking about her new work-in-progress, “Creating the Popular Romance.” From the press release, sent to me by awesome reader Michael: The world of romance novels (who writes them? who reads them? who publishes them? why are they so popular? and what do they say about our culture?)  is… read more »

Lady Jane’s Salon: Video Footage

March 03, 2009 | Tuesday | 3 Comments

I have three videos from last night’s Lady Jane’s Salon, starting with Lauren Willig reading from The Temptation of the Night Jasmine. Note: sound quality is not the most majestic thing in the world. I found it best to lower the volume on the YouTube player, but then adjust the tone and volume of my computer speakers. Sorry for the quality. read more »

Corpse Flower - The Giveaway!

February 04, 2009 | Wednesday | 105 Comments

No, I’m not actually giving away a corpse flower, though I’ve got four cats and an elderly dog, not to mention two boys under 4, so I’ve got no shortage of stanky options, should you desire odoriferous prizes. But this here is not at ALL a stinky giveaway. Lauren Willig’s new book, The Temptation of the Night Jasmine debuted at #19 on the New York Times Bestseller list this week, and she and her publisher have offered a rather spiffy prize to celebrate. read more »
