The internet is full of all kinds of awesome things. I like it here. First up, from JD Drew: decrepit Victorian homes built of Legos. Prepare to be impressed because CREEPY and AWESOME are here in equal doses. Next: how awesome is this? Puffin, a division of Penguin, as donated use of Roald Dahl’s digital books , James and the Giant Peach, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to the Worldreader program. Worldreader makes digital books available to readers in developing worlds, and Amazon, Random House, and now Penguin are part of the program. High fives, y’all.…

In my Simon & Schuster newsletter for August, there’s a contest for fans of author Kresley Cole to win two autographed books, and a phone call with Kresley to discuss her books. At first my inner 8 year old, who is very shy, got a major case of the tongue-tied EEEEPs and wondered how much of a complete cranking fool of myself I could be if on the phone with a favorite author. Then I thought, well, I’m very fortunate that I’ve been to three RWA signings and two RT signings and have walked up to many authors whose books…

I was pondering my continued enjoyment of werewolf fiction, especially in the wake of the polarized reaction to my review of Bitten, and started to wonder why were-predators and vampires seem to be still the dominant paranormal motif in romance. There are other paranormal creatures - faeries, were-amphibians, were-birds, demons, ghosts, incubi and succubi, for example - within the paranormal romance shelves, but the predominant creature, both in continued fascination and in number of titles, seems to be the weres and the vamps. Why is that? There’s a lot of questioning as to why the Twilight series sustains its audience…

It’s time for… Accidental Dong, Romance Style, with your hosts, Kay Hooper, Gena Showalter, and Kresley Cole! Well, technically they’re not the hosts, but they’ve got dong-ful books. If you’re not familiar with Accidental Dong, there’s this hideously addictive website full of… accidental peens. And then there’s the sharp eyes of romance readers, where, much to my gasping shock, there are ACCIDENTAL PEENS EVERYWHERE. For example: accidental old school peen? Oh, yes. First: this eBay item, an original cover illustration for a Loveswept romance. Check out that skirt. That HAIR. That shirt open but STILL TUCKED IN! Gosh, it’s almost…

ETA: 13 May: Please note, this comment thread is so amazing and interesting, but because we’re talking about series and when readers stopped reading and why (or why not), it can and does get spoiler-y. Proceed at your own risk, be ye warned, herein be spoilers, yarr. On Tuesday at the Bosoms booksigning at the Clifton Commons Barnes & Noble, I got into a thought-provoking discussion with Sydney, Marisa, Kiersten, and the other ladies who came (who told me they lurk and never comment - I didn’t want to embarrass them but hi, folks!) about what makes us break up…

Can someone explain the titles of Kresley Cole’s books to me? I mean, from a marketing perspective. It seems absolutely confusing that books that are damn near unforgettable would be marketed with titles so similar to one another that I cannot keep them straight. I mean, take a look at the literal list:
Playing Easy to Get
A Hunger Like No Other
No Rest for the Wicked
Wicked Deeds on a Winter’s Night
Dark Needs at Night’s Edge
Dark Desires After Dusk
Come ON NOW. Those last three, how the crap am I supposed to distinguish between them?
