Alert Reader N. answered the call for any examples of What Not To Write with an email message that made my jaw drop. As part of a regular feature here at the Hot Pink Palace of Bitchery (where the drinks are free and the man titty shelters us from the harsh rays of the sun), we’re taking a look at descriptions, both sexual and non-sexual that yanked us out of the storyline. Some of these examples, such as the comparison of a woman’s hey-nanner-nanner to a horse’s mouth, evoked some irritated responses that the passage in question (the words, not…

I swear I’m not doing this on purpose, but yet another guest review offering arrived in yon inbox while I was editing my review, and I enjoyed this one so much I wanted to share. I’ll turn things over to Dora who also read The Devil Wears Plaid. I spotted The Devil Wears Plaid the same way I find all my romances; in the “stationary” aisle at the supermarket. The reason it stood out to me was it’s title, sort of, which was vaguely . The other reason would be the woman they chose for the cover; her cheeky smile…

Yesterday, Edith Shain, the nurse from the VJ-Day picture of The Best Kiss ever, died at age 91. According to the news article, she never really knew who it was that kissed her in Times Square, even though that’s one of the most iconic images ever. Marguerite Butler said she was going to smooch her husband in honor of Ms. Shain - an idea I totally support! Smooch your partner then do it again. Kissing is often a short scene in romances, especially erotically charged scenes that move on to kisses in “Other Locations.” But good kisses in romance are…

I've had a couple of weeks to spend with my borrowed toy, and here's my impressions, based on my unscientific but personally demanding testing methods. Overall, I like it, but the technology still has some serious limitations that keep it from being a serious solution for my personal library growth issues. I knew there would be a learning curve, so I gave myself several days to just play with it. I tried a couple of freebie downloads, but really wasn't warming up to the e-paper format at all. Then I downloaded the new Jeaniene Frost release I'd been dying to…

Seems over in the UK, Virgin has banned kissing in UK train stations saying it causes inefficiency in the crowd movement. Mills & Boon has taken up a campaign with posters all over the place proclaiming that this ban is ridiculous. According to the press release, “Romantic embraces and passionate kisses are a vital part of life and should never be discouraged. We believe that attempting to restrict passion to certain times or areas is a denial of the human right to express love,” says Mills & Boon Publishing Director Sarah Ritherdon…. Britain is the latest country to have this…

Awhile back I posted a message from Moreena, a reader whose daughter was undergoing liver transplants. The family stayed at nearby Kohl’s House in Chicago, which was sorely lacking in the romance department. Moreena wrote in with an update that made my day. I can’t even tell you how awesome I think you guys are. Srsly. Y’a'll Rule. ...we went to the Kohl’s House a few weeks back, and they were thrilled with the response they got from your readers. Let’s just say I almost miss being at the place, just for the fun bookshelf that now stands by the…

Part two of my liveblogging of my reading of this Historical Undone. Part I | Part II | Part III | Part IV Ok, their estate in Yorkshire? Peacock Oak. Poor Alex WALON, I hope that’s not an endorsement of his endowment, or the sexual preferences of his brother. Melicent’s mother apparently feels “sick as cushion,” whatever that means, and is a pain in the ass. Melicent is hiding downstairs writing. Writing the scandalous gossip? Nope. Architectural guides. Seems she’s also a technical writer. What a woman of excellent depth of talent! And of course she doesn’t recognize her husband…

As a happy proponent of the Kindle-Ade, I mention frequently how much I love it. But then, I’m also someone who saved up to buy it for weeks because I had a healthy lust for it, and knew it would make reading, which is not an optional activity for me, easier and more portable. So I had a good period of anticipation before I jumped in to the tune of more than the device is currently selling for, and I was honestly very worried that my experience wouldn’t measure up to the amount of money I paid for it. It…
