With the DoJ settlement for some publishing houses, the prices for ebooks will slip and slide in different directions, but for now, there's a big ol' sale on a huge portion of Johanna Lindsey's backlist, and Karina Cooper's books as well, plus a handful of historical and romantic suspense novels.
If you're not sure which Lindsey to buy, you can take a look at the reading recommendation list we created for the Classic Romances: Which One First, or, you can read the entire comment thread on the original entry for more options.

Just in time for me to travel tomorrow to New Orleans for Heather Graham’s Writers for New Orleans conference, there’s ebooks on sale. HOT DIGGITY! Johanna Lindsey’s Once a Princess, which was recommended by several Bitchery readers as a good intro to Lindsey’s novels, is on sale for $2.99 in ebook form [Kindle | Kobo | BN | WORD Brooklyn] Funny enough, the “other” Once a Princess, a fantasy/scifi type story, is free online right now. Lots of discounted princesses! Also part of the Amazon $3.99 or under sale: Suzanne Enoch’s The Care and Taming of a Rogue for $2.99…

Hearts Aflame, the current Avon .99c digital offering offering, inspired Betty Fokker to read and review this romance classic. Boy oh boy, does this book bring back the memories. I was a devoted reader of Johanna Lindsey in the 80’s, but I hadn’t read any of her books for years, so when I saw this book on sale for $.99 I suffered a fit of nostalgia and uploaded that sucker to my kindle. Here’s the plot: Kristen Haardrad was looking for one last adventure with her brother Selig. However, nothing prepared her for the fact that they are going Viking.…

So many of you posted recommendations as to which Johanna Lindsey romance a curious reader should read first. When you’re confronting a hella-backlist, it can be intimidating, so here’s a breakdown of what was recommended, why, and by whom. The challenge with Lindsey titles is that she was one of the biggest names in old skull romances, and many of her titles are of the “fight then fuck” variety, with a sprinkling of forced seduction and/or rape scenes to be found in some. As deputman wrote, “there are some I would really recommend modern readers against, unless they are prepared…

More ebooks have been released from Avon, including Hearts Aflame, which is their current .99c offering (Amazon | BN | WORD | Kobo). This book is a classic medieval Lindsay.
While I am not as big a fan of medieval -set romances, I know this book has some fans.
ESPECIALLY since the original cover looked like THIS:

We’re starting a new feature here at Smart Bitch HQ. I was having a lively email conversation with Billie Bloebaum, who is the book buyer for Powell’s in the Portland airport, and she mentioned how much she enjoyed handselling books she knew were wonderpants but not as widely known as other more prominent bestselling pants. I mentioned that I’d never had a bookstore employee handsell me a book in a store, and she about fell over. This handselling thing is an art, and with the consolidation of bookstores and the loss of smaller independents, it’s an endangered art. Some bookstore…

Librarian Jessica is looking for the assistance of the Bitchery. She’s writing an article for librarians on Johanna Lindsey, and is looking for books that best capture Lindsey’s style, particularly those you loved or hated the most: I’m writing (eventually) what librarians call an author readalike, a guide to the author and their appeal to readers. The second part is suggestions for other recommended authors that have a similar reading appeal…. Once I’ve read (or reread) several of her books and I can say more of what makes reading JL a unique experience, then I will want to identify 4-6…

A little while ago, Bookslut ran a very entertaining feature on children’s book covers featuring wizards, complete with various makeovers. I figured we here at Smart Bitch Central couldshamelessly rip off this idea pay homage to this idea and talk about some of the classics of our genre and how their covers have evolved. First up on the chopping block: that doyenne of hearts and savages and thunder and savagely thundering hearts, Johanna Lindsey. For extra bonus funtimes, swap around the titles and covers. Hell, swap around the individual words! They’re astonishingly interchangeable. Brave the Wild Rogue! A Heart so…
