We are back with a new podcast! AND I have a new microphone that KICKS IN OMG about 4 minutes in, but after that I sound a lot better. Which is funny because I was coming down with the flu at the time we recorded. Heh. This week we are all about Listener Mail. We're discussing our werewolf best-of, pack dynamics, happy drunks, books that make you cry, coltish legs, and the discomfort zone. We've also got More Peatbog! The music this week was provided by Sassy Outwater, who heard my plea, and your pleas, for MORE PEATBOG. This week's…

We're back for one last podcast in 2011, and we're talking about the ridiculousness threshold, why hyperbole is so common in some books, and why that threshold varies for different readers depending on genre. We also talk about the point at which we can no longer accept character or plot insanity and just can't enjoy the book anymore.
We also talk a bit about books that we love and at the time of recording were reading. So it's a bit in the past but hey, good book recs never go stale.

It’s podcast time! This week we are talking about what I call “romangst:” angst romance at its finest and most emotional. Jane and I have an intense discussion of romangst and what makes it good & believable, from historicals to Harlequin Presents. We talk about whether the angsty character be healed, and if we can believe that someone who is that fucked up will have a happy ending as functioning or mostly functioning adult. Also: you may notice that at recording time, I had a cold. Enjoy Stuffy Sarah. I even edited out two sniffles, a sneeze, and the possible…

Back in 2009, Jane Litte and I did a few podcasts about romance novels. We’re BACK. And the audio is NOT AS GOOD. My apologies for that. But we’re back, and we’re talking about what we’re reading, and which Harlequin Presents we both enjoy. Plus, we discuss at length a historical romance that’s coming out in December that we both adored and cannot wait to share with readers. You can subscribe to our feed at Feedburner or at iTunes. Mp3 is available for download as well. PLEASE for the love of God right click and save, k? Esosoft and I…

Jane Litte, Angela James, Malle Vallik and I are quoted in an amazing article about romance readers and digital books. Here’s the catch: much like a book that rocks in the content but makes you cringe in embarrassment at the cover, you must skip past the headline to get to the good part. Well, no, you can’t really skip it because it’s the first thing you see, so let’s get to that first: When it comes to format, romance readers are promiscuous Just like authors have no control the cover art or titles of their books, journalists have little control…

Ron Hogan of Beatrice.com, GalleyCat, and lady Jane’s Salon posted via Twitter the news from Teleread, which of course has crashed like the server was slashdotted. Forbes has the story as well: Barnes and Noble has purchased Fictionwise for a reported $15.7 million dollars. The deal gives Barnes & Noble a presence in the e-book market prior to the launch of its e-Bookstore later this year. The transaction may also include additional performance-based payments to Fictionwise over the next two years. Barnes & Noble plans to keep New Jersey-based Fictionwise as an individual division after the deal closes, with founders…

This Saturday Dear Author will be hosting semi regular SB&J liveblog event. This time we’ll be doing a liveblog review of Kresley Cole’s Kiss of a Demon King. This is more of a book club discussion event than a read along because it wouldn’t be feasible to read and blog such a long book all at once. So grab a copy of KofaDK and come join us Saturday night at 8:00 EST/ 9:00 CST.

This Saturday Night, here at the hot pink palace of Bitches, Jane and I will be discussing book-club style the February 2009 Harlequin Presents Mediterranean Boss, Convenient Mistress by Kathryn Ross. Joining us will be Jawk and Jace, two allegedly gay friends of Jane’s (“allegedly” because I’m going by what they say, and since this is all over the internet, they could mean homosexual or just skippingly, shockingly gleefully happy). We’ll be reading the book this week and signing on to discuss it on Saturday 10 January at 9pm EST/8pm CST. You’re welcome to join us. This is a bit…

Head on over to DearAuthor.com tonight at 9 EST/8CST for another Saturday Night Live-Blog where Jane and I face off and simultaneously read and discuss a romance. Tonight’s book is a m/m short story - we’ve decided short stories and novellas work best for the format - Custom Ride by K.A. Mitchell. Joining us will be two additional readers: Jane’s friend Jawk and Jace, who will also be reading along and commenting to give us an allegedly authentic gay male perspective. I presume they are actually (a) male and (b) gay, since they’ll be with Jane and I’ll be far…

Sarah’s too close to the phone, Jane is driving, and we’re recording our conversation. Want to listen in? This is the feed to the podcast and you can click on this link to add it to iTunes. We can’t curse on the podcast due to iTunes content restrictions. (Dammit fuck). Feel free to give us content suggestions, tips on how to do this whole thing better, or general wtf-ery comments. It’s all welcome because a) we are new to this and b) we don’t really know what we are doing so the wtf comments are probably all valid. The email…
