The Ascent of Money

January 13, 2009 | Tuesday | 23 Comments

I wrote on Twitter over the weekend about a popular song in which Ne-Yo croons lovingly about a woman who is so amazingly attractive because… she pays her bills on time. Her car and her house are nearly paid off and Ne-Yo can barely keep his head on straight about her. Yes sir, the new heroine: fiscally savvy and financially smart. After the hurricane bowling alley the last few years, we saw heroes and heroines who could control the weather. Paranormal, I think, gained popularity because when terrorism is everywhere, it’s comforting to know who the villain is, because he’s… read more »

Ike and Books

Mimi Gets a Contract made me snort so hard I nearly aspirated a Splenda packet from across the room. Thanks to Angie for the link. I just laughed myself into tears reading this article about the Diagram Prize,… read more »

August 31, 2008 | Sunday | 12 Comments

As Hurricane Gustav takes aim at the Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas coastline nearly three years to the date after Katrina, folks are heading out of those areas under mandatory evacuation orders. Among them: conference attendees at Heather Graham’s Writers for New Orleans Conference, scheduled for this weekend. The conference began in 2006 as a way to bring business and tourism back to New Orleans. Here’s hoping everyone, residents and tourists alike, in that area is safe, the damage is minimal, and that next year, the conference can return to a healthy, happy city of New Orleans. I’ll be there with… read more »
