May 11, 2011 | Wednesday | 4 Comments

I have a series romance RITA® Reader Challenge review today, this time from Lindlee, who really liked this book. The summary, with Exclamation! Points! They hit it off, and Zoe ends up agreeing to pose as Sean’s girlfriend at his family’s Thanksgiving. But following an accident and a misunderstanding they’re soon stuck with each other for the Christmas holidays! Zoe’s girl-next-door looks make Sean wish their charade was a romantic reality, but Zoe is hiding something…and he has… read more »

HaBO: Avoid The Mall at Christmastime

November 16, 2010 | Tuesday | 16 Comments

Romances help us with so many Important Life Lessons, including Avoid The Mall at Christmastime. Colleen writes looking for the book with just that message. I read this book a few years ago at a rented condo. It was part of a series and the hero was a SEAL or definitely an army man and the heroine was a book clerk in a mall. It took place around Christmas (maybe Christmas eve) and the hero was going to propose, but girlfriend didn’t think they were serious. She had kind of a bitch mom (maybe a doctor). The mall closes and… read more »

Holiday Gift Guide, Part II: Geeks, Paper, and Other Awesome Stuff

October 28, 2010 | Thursday | 20 Comments

It’s time for more Holiday Gift Ideas for all that shopping that, judging from the mall decorations, needs to be done right hopping now! First: a note. Somehow, I must have given the impression that I dislike Christmas in my last Gift Guide entry - which, OOPS. So not the case! To all those who emailed me about Christmas gifts, let me restate: I don’t actually dislike Christmas at all. I don’t celebrate it but I do like much of it, particularly the SMELL. If I walk by a Christmas tree display I will stick my nose in the branches… read more »

Holiday Shopping Guide: Flytrap Paper Goods

October 04, 2010 | Monday | 81 Comments

Yesterday, Hubby and I went shopping for warmer clothes for all of us, and there, on the northernmost wall of the store it was… Christmas. Trees and garlands and sparkly stuff and holiday frames and all kinds of stuff, all on sale. YOU GUYS. IT IS NOT EVEN HALLOWEEN. (Also: we are not Christian and therefore do not celebrate Christmas but that’s beside the point). Did that stop me from looking at the items on sale and finding some very excellent gifts for people for the holidays? Of course not.  (We celebrate Hanukkah - the most excellent holiday ever because… read more »

Play With Me by Leslie Kelly

February 02, 2010 | Tuesday | 18 Comments

I mentioned this book during a giveaway last week: it’s a light and fun contemporary that’s sexy and poignant at some moments. Amanda Bauer is a pilot for her uncle’s small private aviation firm, and when a client cancels at the last minute, she has a flight of one instead of five from Pittsburgh to Chicago. It’s Halloween, and the client who cancels is one of her favorite people - an older lady who told her she had to dress in costume. So Amanda’s standing on the tarmac in a vintage flight attendant’s costume from the early 70s, complete with… read more »
