It's Valentine's Day! There's red and chocolate everywhere, and there will be a lot of dining out and champagne and general fuzziness. Oh - and some media attention toward the romance novel since it's an annual thing, asking romance authors what the best date nights are and how to woo the unwilling maiden after you've taken over her father's business in an act of cold blooded corporate revenge. I figure, let's give gifts! I am giving away two $50 gift cards to the bookstore of the winner's choice! All you have to do: tell me which romance novel you think…

It's the latest of the last-minutes for gift shopping online, but I think the holidays snuck up on a lot of people this year!
First, this would not arrive by the holidays, but printing a little pic and putting it in a card with the promise of a FULL SIZE VERSION of AWESOME is forthcoming wouldn't be so horrible.
Not when the FULL SIZE VERSION of the Limited Edition Social Media Propaganda Poster is this awesome.
To say nothing of the Twitter Fail Whale one, which I adore in so many ways. You know, because I love the Twittah.

Time for a few 2011 holiday gift guides, with items selected or suggested by me, and by readers of the site. I collect links and ideas all year, so get ready. There will be a few editions of the gift guide!
First: from reader Alex, a whole STORE on Etsy of literary quote jewelry, from cuffs to earrings and necklaces. JezebelCharms has quotes from Austen, Bronte, Shakespeare - there's way too much to choose from.
This edition is full of silly and fun apparel - and some techy gifts at the end.

Thank you to everyone who entered our Sixth Anniversary giveaway - I loved reading all your answers as to why you love romances. It was a total celebration in the comments - thank you!! And special thanks to Kate who sent me an email with a gift: Okay, I know you know Maureen Johnson, and perhaps you are aware of her proud tradition of #crapfts? In honor of your sixth anniversary, I have crapfted you a (virtual) present: It depicts, as you can see (well, maybe you can), a heroine with flowing golden tresses and huge blue eyes and a…

Today marks the Sixth Anniversary of this here hot pink website. Our first review was posted January 30, 2005 - a review of Sharon Shinn’s Angel-Seeker. Wow, huh? I’m sort of shocked and amazed and ready to party! The official gifts of the Sixth Anniversary are… wait, don’t have anything liquid in your mouth, ok? … iron, candy, and WOOD. Oh, this is going to be fun. It’s giveaway time! To celebrate our sixth anniversary, I’m giving away the following prizes: That’s 4lbs of chocolate covered cherries, an iron, a 5lb bag of wood, and a Hello Kitty vibrator (a…

If actual physical gifts are not your cup of tea this year, you always have the option of charitable donations in honor of someone, anyone, or everyone. Charities are feeling the pinch as much as anyone in a tight economy, so every tiny bit helps. So while I’ve been doing goofy, silly, and ridiculously bizarre gift ideas, I also wanted to feature a few charitable organizations that I like, and ask which ones you direct donations toward. As Newark Mayor Cory Booker said on the Rachel Maddow show last April, too often we allow our inability to do everything undermine…

It’s time for more Holiday Gift Ideas for all that shopping that, judging from the mall decorations, needs to be done right hopping now! First: a note. Somehow, I must have given the impression that I dislike Christmas in my last Gift Guide entry - which, OOPS. So not the case! To all those who emailed me about Christmas gifts, let me restate: I don’t actually dislike Christmas at all. I don’t celebrate it but I do like much of it, particularly the SMELL. If I walk by a Christmas tree display I will stick my nose in the branches…

I’ve asked a few times over the past few weeks for folks to send me their gift ideas and wish list items that they, as avid, voracious, book-lovin’, page-turnin’, spine-breakin’, button-pushin’, downloadin’ readers would love to have for this year’s holiday season. Get ready for random awesomeness. First: from Cat, the Read or Dieshopping bag. I swear on God’s potpourri, there is something for everyone at Archie McPhee, but this in particular rocks my literary socks. You could buy one, put some books in it, and hello, perfect gift. FOR YOURSELF. Heh. Kwana suggested Levenger, or as Jane and I…

Sunday is the day that Jane and I are featured at the Borders True Romance Blog, so that means today is our first column. Woo hoo!
Today we’re talking about romances we recommend, books we love, and authors we’re looking forward to reading. We step outside romance, too, when we talk about the books we give as gifts.
We hope you’ll stop by and talk with us, this and every Sunday.

When I presented at Digital Book, one of my fellow panelists was Michael Santangelo, the Electronic Resources Specialist at the Brooklyn Public Library. In his slides, he featured a picture of their digital kiosks, which allow library patrons to check requests, reserve books, and manage most of the features of their library account. I think similar kiosks should be installed in bookstores so that people who want to buy ebooks can do so - in the store. This would be where the million dollars come in! Any sexy venture capitalists out there want to take me to lunch? I’m a…

Brandi sent me a heads up to these awesome frames, which hang on the wall and show off paperbacks without having to tear off the cover. They measure 5.5” wide by 8.25” tall, so we’re talking mass market paperbacks—but who wouldn’t want a wall of retro man-titty? I mean, I would. I’m already picturing which books I’d hang on the wall: my wayback machine copy of Midsummer Magic, with that swan flying out of poor Hawk’s ass? Or is the 1.5” depth of the frame too shallow to contain the passionate ardor of my old skool mantitty collection? Perpetual Kid…

On January 30, 2005, Candy and I started this here website, kicking off the hot pink castle of bitchin’ with an A- review. Now, four years later, a lot has changed. But the best parts have not: our readers are some of the coolest people we’ve ever met (most notably the lurkers. Hi lurkers!) and we are so pleased you stop by every now and again to talk romance with us. So when it came time to figure out what to do to mark our fourth birthday, I took a look at what the traditional and modern anniversary gifts are…

It’s January 5th, the shopping is done, the gifts are put away, and maybe you’re wearing that sweater someone gave you for the holidays. We’re all back at work, it’s probably cold, unless you’re in the southern hemisphere, and it’s a bit of a bummer. Not anymore! Want to win an ARC copy of The Smart Bitch Book, also known as Beyond Heaving Bosoms: The Smart Bitches’ Guide to Romance Novels? Sure, why not! I’ve got 10 ARCs sitting in my room with me (I gaze upon them more frequently than is necessary, and I admit it) and I’d like…

Need nutrition and health advice? Want to sit on the lap of a rock-hard workout-devoted man dressed as Santa, who poses for pics and gives advice on gifts and exercise? Head to the mall in LA. Of course. LA. If he was in New York, he’d be telling you to go fuck yourself. On one hand, it always makes me twitchy when objectification of men is treated as somehow funny and silly, when it’s not, really, but on the other hand, I kinda like his advice. Get up: work out. Eat more protein and vegetables. And think healthy care for…
