This book came to my attention based on a reader recommendation. I’ve been trying to figure out how to approach this review since I finished the book this weekend and immediately said out loud and on Twitter, “You have got to be fucking kidding me.” When I look at a small press book, I think about whether I’d buy another book from them, if the book I read is indicative of the quality of the books the press plans to produce in the future. Based upon this book, I am not impressed with the quality of the editing or the…

Serena writes with this sentimental request: Can you help a Bitch out? My grandmother gave me a book when I was a teen - part of her romance collection from the 70’s or 80’s. The plot: Wealthy young woman from a southern family (in Louisiana?) in the early 1800s is at a ball, forced to dance with this dark, brooding fellow (I think he has some sort of ugly scar), and then he threatens to kill her feckless fiance (who is also her cousin) if she won’t marry him. It’s actually very difficult to review this book, as I still think about it, and even when writing the review I picked up the book and started reading it again. I’m part YAY and I’m part BOO though I’m not MEH about it either. This happened right from the start, too, damn seductive book. I read this book after…

A few weeks ago, I gave away ARCs of Jennifer Crusie’s Maybe This Time, and asked that, if the winners were so inclined, the lucky ARC-getters would send me their thoughts on the book. Carrie was the first to send me her review, and I’m including it here - with a bonus at the bottom. See? It’s sometimes worth it to read all them there words. I am still writing my review - it’s both a good thing and a bad thing that this book has given me so much to think about - but Carrie hits on a lot…

Giveaway on Friday? Sure, why not! I have five ARCs of Jennifer Crusie’s upcoming hardcover, “Maybe This Time,” and you can win one. This book is Crusie’s first single-author single-title in a few years (as in, she didn’t collaborate on this one) and when the ARC arrived on my doorstep a few weeks ago, I idly started reading the first page, only to find that I’d stood at my kitchen counter reading the first chapter completely blind and deaf to everything around me. My house is loud, so this was alarming. I was sucked in immediately, and couldn’t stop reading.…
