I found this book because of a Facebook ad. If you follow me on Twitter or are subscribed to the SBTB Facebook page, you saw me talking about it yesterday. Here's the ad: This ad worked for me so well I was astonished. Hero description, heroine description, briefest plot summary with hints at the tropes to be used. I WAS SO THERE. Then I got a look at the cover. Beautiful! Looks…professional! Add to that the .99c price, and it was not difficult to click the ad, look at the book description, and click to buy. And judging from…

First, it’s Thanksgiving here in the US, and I’m thankful for you. Yes, you, right there. Hi! Thank you for coming here to talk romance and books and general wittery and asshattery and wtfery, and for making this site so fun and very, very pink and red. You’re awesome. I hope wherever you are, you’re having a good meal. In your honor (yes, YOU) I’ve made a donation to Feeding America, the national network of foodbanks here in the US. I hope your appetite for the funny and the silly and the romance and the heuristic discussions of mantitty have…

Happy Thanksgiving to those of you embarking upon Turkey Coma today in the US, and for the rest of the world who might be receiving a satellite feed of our other Thanksgiving tradition, namely: a whole lot of American football. In past years I’ve written about why I’m thankful for romance, and why particular authors have made a difference in the lives of so many readers. Today I’d like to say thank you to you. You, reading this page. Hi, there! Thank you! This year has been a huge massive one for a whole lot of reasons. This year we…

One of the things I’ve learned in the few years of running this site is that the world is huge and enormous and international postage is expensive, but thanks to the internet, the world is also much, much smaller. I know we have readers from all over the world, and now countries I hear about on the news aren’t just places I have trouble finding on a map (Hey, whaddya want from me?! I’m American!) but places where people I know and talk with online live. So when bad shit happens there it makes me feel both powerless because I’m…

Susan Elizabeth Phillips has a marvelous series of books all set around a professional football team, but really, the role of the football announcer has not been sufficiently explored in romance fiction. For one thing, as YA author Carrie Jones pointed out on her blog, there is no shortage of somewhat bizarre, certainly ridiculous and potentially explicit things that football announcers say. Madden especially. He’s a big pink turducken of vaguely erotic commentary. My favorites from Jones’ list: “The guys love him. He puts them in different positions and they love him.” And: “He’s looking for holding and that’s all…
