Caption This Cover: Cow Edition Winners!

March 21, 2012 | Wednesday | 19 Comments

I can't tell you the number of times I heard or read, "Sarah, that isn't the REAL COVER, is it?" Oh, yes, it is, cow and all. Nothing says erotic romance like a stress cow, and nothing relieves big stress like the captions you came up with! Honorable Mention goes to:   Everyone said "Why buy the cow when the milk's free?" but Buck knew that there was more to Elsie than just dairy. There was BEEF!! - Inez Kelley   Gotta love a man who is not lactose intolerant! Even if he has to carry a plastic cow to… read more »

Caption This Cover: Carpet Edition

November 29, 2011 | Tuesday | 166 Comments

Jan Oda sent me this cover, and all the possible jokes ran to the front of my brain and pushed each other like the doors just opened at Target and everything was 65% off.I'm not sure if there's been a better candidate for "Caption That Cover" - well, of course there have, but not this week!   I mean, from jokes about munching carpet to whether the rug matches the drapes to what REALLY goes on in NJ, there's no shortage (heh) of opportunities here. So here we go! It's Caption That Cover time!  Leave your caption in the comments,… read more »

Irrational Arousal by Summer Devon

October 21, 2009 | Wednesday | 40 Comments

I first mentioned this book because of its cover. Oh, what a cover. In the comments, someone asked if the book itself was as bad as the cover. No, not at all. But cover notwithstanding, I couldn’t finish the book. The premise of the book is interesting: for unknown reasons, the hero and heroine mind-meld whenever they’re sexually stimulated. They don’t know one another, but suddenly they are in each other’s minds during orgasm. Talk about double penetration! She’s in the shower, using the handheld spray in a unique manner not covered by its warranty, and suddenly he can see… read more »

Liberating Lacey by Anne Calhoun

September 28, 2009 | Monday | 11 Comments

Seems like cougars are the new black: I think there are three new TV shows this fall about older women and younger men, pointing to a cultural fascination with the experienced female and young energetic male pairing. Much of the portrayals I’ve seen in the promotional trailers and ads for these shows seem superficial at best and uninteresting - and the idea of tension based merely on age difference and maturity does nothing for me. Liberating Lacey is a story that would fit that mold, with an older woman meeting a younger man, but it is much more complex and… read more »

A Friendly Note to EC

January 10, 2009 | Saturday | 6 Comments

Dear Ellora’s Cave: I know there’s a shortage of great images for covers lately, and to be frank, your covers have been MUCH more attractive than the glut of dead-eyed Poser males that used to flood my inbox. But if I might be permitted a kind word of advice: if you are going to use a close up of the same model for two covers in the same month, it might be a good idea NOT to place those two covers next to each other in your promo lineup. It’s barely noticeable otherwise, but in that context, it looks almost… read more »

PW on “new” E-rotic romance

June 23, 2008 | Monday | 20 Comments

I love how the article title calls it “the new E” - new? Are you kidding with the “new?” - but there’s a rather complimentary, if somewhat befuddling article in PW today about the ebook erotica industry titled The New E in Erotica. I’m laughing mostly because I just finished writing about the “E” in romance for The Book, discussing erotic romance and epublishing and their respective ties to the genre. Is this reporter looking over my shoulder? Creepy! Avon’s Red, EC, Aphrodisia and Wild Rose Press, as well as authors Cheyenne McCray, Noire, Lora Leigh, and Colette Gale are… read more »

Clear Off Your Calendars for One More Convention

June 19, 2008 | Thursday | 10 Comments

A few folks have emailed me news that Ellora’s Cave, Cerridwen, and Lotus Circle are planning to host a convention for authors and readers in Akron, Ohio, sometime in fall 2009. The tentative schedule seems to include an awards banquet, workshops, book fairs, and author-sponsored (read: paid for) events. No word yet on costs for the convention; as one message that was forwarded to me read, “Once EC has an idea of the number of interested people (authors, readers, book stores, models), and they decide on the hotel, food, etc., they’ll be able to determine the cost.” Is this the… read more »

Blind Items from RT

April 19, 2008 | Saturday | 20 Comments

A few not entirely blind items: Rumor has it EC Cavemen behaved like cavemen, with the exception of a gentleman who lived up to that term by the name of Rodney. At least three authors that I know of resorted to physical response to their grabby tactics – a physical response that involved a slap and no tickle. As of Friday evening, no cavemen in sight – they seem to have suddenly and mysteriously disappeared. At least, they’re not wearing their official EC gear and traveling in a pack, and the EC staff seem to have departed as well. And… read more »
