Bitchin' Blog Posts : Dick

Seduced by Virginia Henley, a Guest Review by RedHeadedGirl

Hi, sorry, sorry.  This semester is kicking my ass, and all my classes are things I actually give a rat’s ass about (I’m taking law in the Ancient World, and it’s the best ever), so there’s a lot less procrastination on my plate this semester than last semester. This is also the first book I’m reviewing from my brand new Kindle, which I adore more than is reasonable.  I got it for school (really) and also so people can’t judge me for the covers of what I read.  Yay for eink! This book is so deliciously fucked up, you guys. … read more »

Surrender to the Night by Evelyn Rogers: A Guest Review by R

September 08, 2010 | Wednesday | 88 Comments

[This is a guest review from reader R. who found her long-lost romance thanks to the Bitchery and a HaBO that was SO funny I laughed so hard I could barely speak. Read on for more adventure in way-back romance!] Surrender to the Night (Or that book I ran into 18 years ago when I was 13, and finally got 3 days ago, thanks to the Smart Bitches and the Bitchery) For real, guys, I can’t thank you enough.  I feel like a niggling mystery from my early teenagerhood has finally been solved.  I suppose it feels that way because… read more »

Iron Cowboy by Diana Palmer: A Guest Review by Nonnie

March 22, 2010 | Monday | 139 Comments

Nonnie’s back! Our favorite anonymous reviewer, back for more fun and reviews-in-list-formation with a look at Diana Palmer’s Iron Cowboy. The One That Made Me Cry (With Laughter) By Nonnie There are a few things you need to know before you start reading a Diana Palmer novel: There is a 95% chance biscuits will be involved. Women’s rights are a nebulous, easily dismissed issue. Any slang in the book will come straight out of the 70s, along with most clothing styles, despite the fact that the books are meant to be contemporary romances. The hero will be at least 12… read more »

Bejazzled and Beefy Winners!

March 19, 2010 | Friday | 9 Comments

Oh, dear, oh, dear, I’m late too announce the winner of the Bejazzled and Beswimsuited title contest. So, without sparkly ado, here are the honorable mentions: Megs for Crotching Sparkle, Not-So-Hidden Wang. Cara McKenna’s  The German Sausage Merchant’s Shimmering Hairless Bride. The Romantic Suspense genre could do with a influx of more titles like Andrea’s: Snatching Diamonds could have some outstanding sparkly cover imagery! Bibiophile’s two entries: The Dick and the Diamond and Mining Mons Veneris. Becky totally made me snort with Vajizzled. But the completely over-the-edge, over-the-top, jewel-worthy winner: XandraG for The Bedazzlement of Duke Peepingdong. Way to go,… read more »

Men and Sex and Women and Sex

June 18, 2009 | Thursday | 24 Comments

I linked earlier to this news report about the new owner of Britain’s Erotic Review moving away from female erotic writing to “almost exclusively male writers” because they know more about sex. Aside from the blood pressure liftoff among female erotic romance and erotica writers on the internet, the attitude made me roll my eyes. Way to grab headlines by shoving your head up your ass - which, now that I think about it, was something a guy once said to me so I guess cranio-rectal impaction is erotic, huh? For the holidays, I was gifted with a subscription to… read more »

Ebooks: Separate And Equal

February 26, 2009 | Thursday | 64 Comments

There’s a lot of talk online about what the hard stop price is for ebooks, with people like yours truly saying that my limit is about $10 for any book purchase unless it’s a much-coveted title. Meanwhile, Macmillan has said in the past that the price point for an ebook could and should be nearer to the hardback price, but certainly should be more than paperback. To which I say, “What?!” Clearly, their sense of value and my sense of value are very, very far apart indeed. I was passing by a billboard in Weehawken (one of the two jewels… read more »

Language and Visual Entertainment

December 14, 2008 | Sunday | 22 Comments

Need a giggle? We at SB HQ are happy to provide with enchanting and coquettish actions. A “respected research institute” used what they thought was a Chinese poem on the cover of its recent journal. It was. If by “poem” you mean “advertisement for strip club in Macau that specializes in ‘hot housewives in action.’” read more »
