It's May! My peonies are blooming, the air is flush with good smells and yellow dust, and my blue car is now a strange shade of pollen-coated green. It's also time for the Brenda Novak Auction, which has raised over $1.3 million dollars for a cure for juvenile diabetes. From Brenda Novak’s assistant comes word that the 2009 Diabetes Auction raised $270,611: “That’s more than last year and it puts us on track to break the 1 million mark in 2010.” According to Novak’s auction page on her website, in five years the auction has raised $770,611 for diabetes research. The 2009 Brenda Novak Online Auction to Benefit Diabetes Research is on. This year’s goal $300,000.00. First day total money raised? $42,222.00 That is some big money - and I bet the goal is in reach by 15 May. The items offered are amazing, as usual, from from once-in-a-lifetime experiences like trips and vacations or a night in Inn Boonsboro, Nora Roberts’ romance-themed bed and breakfast in Boonsboro, Maryland (trust me, it’s so worth the trip). According to the auction page, Brenda Novak’s Diabetes Auction raised over $252,300.00. Holy crapping damn, folks. That’s awesome.
Big ups to Ms. Novak. Now I have to start thinking creatively for items to donate next year.

Probably closing her eyes for five minutes after assembling the most amazing collection of items for her annual auction to benefit juvenile diabetes research. Today is day one. Bid early, bid often, and big, big ups to Brenda for a truly impressive display of effort and dedication, and to the folks who donated some seriously asskicking items.
