Fitzwilliam Darcy in the Sack

August 17, 2011 | Wednesday | 20 Comments

Something about the pocket watch… it is so subtle. It’s trying to evoke something, but what? I don’t think I have the stones to figure it out. The ponderous weight of contemplation is leaving me blank. Oh, dear. The balls are in your court now. Graceful curtsey to Catinbody for the link to this cover. read more »

April 16, 2009 | Thursday | 26 Comments

Bright and early tomorrow morning, I’ll be hopping in the Prius (gets better gas milage than my car) and heading southwest to the fine, windy roads of Boonsboro, Maryland, to take part in the Turn the Page Bookstore WRW Pre-Retreat Signing from 11 am until 2pm. I’ll be signing copies of the Bosoms (the book, not my own), along with Nora Roberts, J D Robb, P. C. & Kristin Cast, Susan Donovan, Mary Blayney, Darlene Gardner, Donna Kauffman, Sally MacKenzie, Michelle Monkou, Sophia Nash, Carla Neggers, Kathleen Gilles Seidel, Michelle Willingham & Rebecca York. Stay tuned all day Friday for… read more »

Want to turn your paperback into a hot pink (or red, or blue, or green) hardcover? Check out Hardbacker, a product with a somewhat buggy website, and an unintentionally hilarious name. [Thanks to Linda for the link.] Altered romance novels with whole new sparkly buttsecks meanings, with that piquant dash of sardonic artistry, for your eyes only at Cliterature. [Thanks to P.N. Mr Darcy: Broken Hero?

December 03, 2008 | Wednesday | 48 Comments

Thanks to FD, I have a link to an advice column from the Guardian penned by one Mariella Frostrup which addresses the emotionally unavailable man. As FD said in the email to me, the part in the beginning where she ladles on the pathos in an attempt to establish empathy was irritating, and her assumption about Mills & Boon heroes is way off the mark imo, but her point about the emotionally unavailable man is thought provoking. I have to wonder if everyone went through the “tragic mate” phase in their 20’s, finding partners with the urge to fix and… read more »

Everything I Need To Know, I Learned from Romance Novels

November 13, 2008 | Thursday | 39 Comments

Greetings! Welcome to the inaugural post of what I hope will be a continuing feature, wherein I attempt to give advice that’s thoughtful, cranky, and based on the myriad facets of knowledge I’ve gleaned from a shitload of romance novel reading. I’ve heard people say that they’ve learned vocabulary and historical knowledge from romance novels that appeared on the SAT or other standardized tests for academic evaluation. Certainly that was true for me. And I’ve heard many people whispering about the sexual knowledge they’ve obtained from erotica and romance novels, for both their own sexual satisfaction and that of their… read more »

Call for Papers: New Orleans in April? Boo yah!

November 12, 2008 | Wednesday | 7 Comments

From the Professors Brilliant comes a Call for Papers. Alas, I cannot participate, as it starts on the first night of Passover, and if I left RT early and skipped the PAGEANT OF MAN TITTY for Pesach, you can understand that New Orleans is not among my ports of breadless call either. Otherwise I’d be there with beads on. But if you’re looking for a scholarly opportunity or a place to send a proposal last minute, have a look. read more »
