We have readers from all over the world, and I know we have some readers from Haiti. I think they’re lurkers, as I only hear from them occasionally via email, but I’m sick and sad seeing the images from the earthquake in Port-au-Prince last night and I hope the death toll is far, far lower than news sources are predicting (which need to shut the hell up about how many Americans were involved already before I break my own tv). - Best Bitches Moment: Our Bootleg Booksigning yesterday raised, in one hour, over $600 for First Book. We had more beer than I knew what to do with, and a crowd of people were streaming in the door to buy a book, have it signed by both Candy and me, and hang out in our room (did we mention the presence of beer? Nothing like it as a social lubricant). - Best Digital Moment: Our Digital Rogue Seminar was standing room only. We had to ask for more chairs twice and over 90 people were in the room. In addition…

From Brenda Novak’s assistant comes word that the 2009 Diabetes Auction raised $270,611: “That’s more than last year and it puts us on track to break the 1 million mark in 2010.” According to Novak’s auction page on her website, in five years the auction has raised $770,611 for diabetes research. Way to go! I am such a big fan of Novak’s auction, and the time and effort that must go into the event is extraordinary. Kudos to Brenda and her assistant Anna, and to everyone who donated.
