A Touch of Scandal: Spend Avon’s Money And Help Rescue Kitties

September 27, 2010 | Monday | 822 Comments

Hello. Ah am Gracie. Ah am one of Sarah’s cats. Ah am one of two girls in this house. Everyone else is a boy. That is the disgusting. Here is me. Am Ah not pretty? Ah am pretty. You can send me the tributes. Ah like the Pounce. Sarah asked me to write the entry today because Ah have not ever done so, despite sitting on many, if not all, of Sarah’s romance novels. Mah Gawd, they are everywhere. Piles of them. Ah like to drape my hairy backside - ahem - beautiful puffulous posterior across as many as possible,… read more »

More Cover Fun

October 28, 2009 | Wednesday | 38 Comments

While looking online for my favorite eBay treasure (romance cover art paintings) I found Y’ALL ARE IN A PEEN from yesterday, and today…. giant floating cats. Specifically, women that turn into oceans where giant floating cats live. And smaller erect women howl at the moon. Or a lighthouse. Probably at the lighthouse. Stupid lighthouse. All erect and phallus-y. Here, have a look: I don’t know if I can tell you how sad I am that this auction ended. read more »

Shame and Smells

June 08, 2009 | Monday | 22 Comments

Thank to Lori, Leslie, and many others for the heads up: One of this week’s Post Secrets is from a woman who sent in a post card made from the cover of a Susan Elizabeth Phillips’ novel. Her postcard reads: “I am too intellectual and sophisticated to be seen reading ‘chick lit.’ Thank goodness for audio books and ipods.” As I said to Lori, this postcard makes me feel glad to know how many women I’ve met through SBTB who are proud to read romance and don’t care what anyone thinks. And at the same time it makes me sad… read more »

Edith Layton

June 03, 2009 | Wednesday | 13 Comments

Romance author Edith Layton passed away today from ovarian cancer. Layton was one of the most prolific and inspiring romance authors in print, a name repeatedly mentioned by writers when discussing authors whose books had led them to think of writing. Layton was also gifted with one of the most bizarre covers I’ve ever seen in romance. There is a collection of memorial tributes at WordWenches, where Layton was among the blogging writers. Her daughter, Susie Felber, has posted an amazing collection of photos of her mother - including one of her writing. My favorite, though,is a picture of Felber’s… read more »

A Heaping Pile of Signed Books: A Giveaway!

April 20, 2009 | Monday | 233 Comments

After the signing at Turn the Page Bookstore, where the people are awesome and the diet Pepsi is DAMN cold, I asked each author to sign a book of their choice for a giveaway on this here hot pink page of Bitchery madness. I carried that giant pile to the cash register and managed not to drop any, then I carefully packed them in the trunk of the car and drove them home, where they are now hidden in the china cabinet of my house, where toddlers and cats fear to tread. Seriously, signed books? OMG. SO precious. I mentioned… read more »

EReader Olympics: Round 1

March 02, 2009 | Monday | 36 Comments

With the arrival of Kindle II: Electric Bugaloo, I’m pleased to announce the E-Reader Olympics, sponsored in part by Sony, who wants to lure me to the Reader side, and by the letters O, M, and G. Since Sir Kindle I and I aren’t having the best of relationships right now, and since I’m curious, I’ve decided that the best way to figure out which reader is the right one for me is to force each of them to complete against one another. The four devices facing off are: The Sony 505, The Sony 700, Sir Kindle I, Baron of… read more »

Corpse Flower - The Giveaway!

February 04, 2009 | Wednesday | 105 Comments

No, I’m not actually giving away a corpse flower, though I’ve got four cats and an elderly dog, not to mention two boys under 4, so I’ve got no shortage of stanky options, should you desire odoriferous prizes. But this here is not at ALL a stinky giveaway. Lauren Willig’s new book, The Temptation of the Night Jasmine debuted at #19 on the New York Times Bestseller list this week, and she and her publisher have offered a rather spiffy prize to celebrate. read more »

Cast a Spell, Win a Book

August 28, 2008 | Thursday | 244 Comments

Cheyenne McCray has 13 ARCs of her new book Dark Magic and these ARCs are looking for homes. Why not with Bitchery members, right? The book comes out in November, so you can get a sneak peek at the story. All you have to do is come up with an answer to the following question: if you could create one fail-safe spell that would be yours to use forever, what would it be? Me? The ability to wave my hands and have clutter, dirty dishes, and random crap strewn about my house instantly in its place. This particularly applies to… read more »

Library Classification as Art

July 24, 2008 | Thursday | 10 Comments

You know how cats rub their scents on something by stroking their chin and little kitty lips on things? Usually while purring? And it looks like they’re kissing things? If I were a cat, I’d do that to this amazing senior project:Looking at Libraries: Defining Space Through Content by Valérie Madill, a student at Emily Carr University in Vancouver, BC. Madill does for books what Deborah Adler did for prescriptions, incorporating design and clarity into something eye catching, inherently useful (from my nooby perspective anyway) and simply amazing. According to the description page in the website, library books “are lost… read more »
