Everything I Know About Love, I Learned from Romance Novels: Pre-Order Information

September 13, 2011 | Tuesday | 19 Comments

Good morning! This post is all about the book I wrote that is coming out 4 October, and where you can pre-order a copy, should you be so inclined. Why Should I Preorder This Book? Well, if you’re at all curious and are on the fence, let me tell you something about EIKAL. I am so proud of this book. I know every author is proud of her books (at least, I hope so) but I am so very, very proud of this one, and I will tell you why. This book is much more than just me talking about… read more »

Midnight Sins and Errors

August 18, 2011 | Thursday | 94 Comments

One thing I have noticed in the past year or so is that the more romance readers are online speaking with one another, the faster we all get a working understanding of the publishing process. We learn more about how a book is produced, in other words, the more we speak with writers, editors, and publishing professionals. Remember Navarro’s Promise, where the promised sex scene was entirely missing? That scene is available as a download on her site. But alas, it seems the error-filled Lora Leigh books continue: the reviews for her latest book, Midnight Sins, are cringeworthy. But what… read more »

Holy Heyer Sale: $1.99 Heyer Digital Sale All Week

August 15, 2011 | Monday | 55 Comments

To celebrate Georgette Heyer’s birthday, Sourcebooks has put their entire digital collection of Heyer novels on sale for $1.99. NICE. Ready to shop? Hope so! I struggled recently with The Grand Sophy, which I read last week, but Heyer’s books are, unquestionably, quite a legacy to the romance community. $1.99 is quite a nice price, too. The books should be at this price from 15-21 August at most major e-retailers, though sometimes there is a delay with switching the price. You may have to check back. Here’s a comprehensive list for you. I’ve tried to find links to many major… read more »

HaBO: Three novels, one book, many searches

July 16, 2011 | Saturday | 20 Comments

Bookstorecat and some other folk are looking for this book, which contained three stories in one paperback: I’ve spent many hours trying to find the first contemporary romance book I ever read. I was about 13, so it was around 1993. The sad thing about this is that I remember A LOT of unhelpful details about this book (which I’ve condensed and abridged here), but I still can’t track it down—and believe me, I have googled the hell out it. The book contained three novels or novellas, all by the same author. It was a primarily dark green paperback.   read more »

Don’t Forget: NALINI SINGH WORLD TOUR Stop Tomorrow in NYC!

June 01, 2011 | Wednesday | 8 Comments

This time tomorrow I’ll be figuring out the train schedules to head into Manhattan to do a live Q&A with Nalini Singh! How cool is it that Nalini Singh is going on a World Tour to promote Kiss of Snow? I know, supremely cool.  I still say I need an ad with urgent-sounding voiceover, wouldn’t it? NALINI SINGH WORLD TOUR! COMING TO NEW YORK ONE NIGHT ONLY! WITH POWER POWER POWER! OK, I’ll stop shouting now. I will be interviewing Nalini Singh at on-stage at the 86th Street Barnes & Noble (Bet. 3rd and Lex) on June 2nd at 7… read more »

Questions? Questions? Upcoming Live Event Interviews with Gena Showalter and Nalini Singh

May 23, 2011 | Monday | 14 Comments

Two interview events, one now and one coming soon! First, as I mentioned last week, this evening at 6:30pm, I’m interviewing Gena Showalter at the Apple store in Soho, New York City (103 Prince Street). The interview will be about 40 minutes with time for Q&A, and will be taped for a podcast to be released later. Also: Tuesday, 24 May at 10:30am in the Sourcebooks Booth, #4356, I will be signing advance reader copies of Everything I Know About Love, I Learned From Romance Novels. After that, I’ll be haunting the romance publisher booths. One year at BEA I… read more »

Browse Physical, Buy and Borrow Digital: Is it Possible?

March 02, 2011 | Wednesday | 61 Comments

On Twitter I recently asked the following question: “If you could buy digital books in a physical bookstore, would you shop there?” I asked because I saw a eReads article about digital book kiosks in physical bookstores, an idea I would LOVE to see. I’ve been thinking a great deal lately about how I shop for books, what I look for when I go buy a book, and I realized, I seek a specific title when I go make a purchase. I haven’t browsed a romance section in a bookstore in a very, very long time. Yet I have a… read more »

Tales of the WTF: Dorchester Reverts Rights, But Continues To Sell Digital Books

October 20, 2010 | Wednesday | 176 Comments

Something is very rotten in the state of Dorchester. Both Jane Litte and I have been pretty frank about our hesitation to recommend or buy books from Dorchester since it is relatively well-known that some authors haven’t been paid royalties for years. I know Dorchester’s decision to go digital-first has meant some very tricky and pain in the ass changes for authors, particularly when they were anticipating and planning for a print release that was rescheduled at the last moment for a digital release sometime in the nebulous future. But I thought the Dorchester drama was, for the most part,… read more »

Digital Reader Review Week: The Kindle III

October 12, 2010 | Tuesday | 58 Comments

I write this with dismay, honestly. Despite some major faults, the Kindle does digital book reading, loading, and buying so well, and works so well for me, I’m using the Kindle. Not even the Sony Mercedes ebook reader could lure me away. Every time I sit down at my computer, I find out about a new way to read, load or access books on the Kindle. I can sync books purchased at Amazon across six devices at this point, and I can email files to my device anywhere. Because of the way I interact with books (lots of them, in… read more »

LINKS. You know you want them.

August 05, 2010 | Thursday | 10 Comments

Looking for a job? Tor.com has suggestions: Best and Worst Job Prospects in the Urban Fantasy Economy. My personal favorite: 4. Leather clothing manufacture and repair. But who repairs the belt? [Thanks for the link, Jane Drew!] The first issue of the Journal of Popular Romance Studies is online, including articles from Laura Vivanco and Kyra Kramer that cite the Bosoms as a secondary source (WOOTY!), and a fantabulous interview with Beverly Jenkins who rocks so hard, it’s impossible to measure. There’s a new collaborative author blog among romance writers: the Heroine Addicts is the group venture of Julie Cohen… read more »

Customer Service is a Ruthless Business

August 04, 2010 | Wednesday | 85 Comments

You can say many cranky things about Amazon, but when it comes to Kindle, I have never had a problem with customer service. I have a problem with a book or the device itself and I can reach a person and get a solution within a few minutes most of the time. I’ve purchased children’s books and realized they were formatted horribly - full refund and the book was removed from my account within an hour. I purchase a book accidentally - same thing. My Kindle II: Matzoh edition, which I purchased refurbished, developed a problem with repeated crashes and… read more »

Hey Waiter, There’s a Slot in my Nook

October 22, 2009 | Thursday | 21 Comments

In the financial world, companies and investments are upgraded and downgraded in a big ol grade scale, and I’ve been using a similar scale to try to track my interest in the Barnes and Noble reading device, the nook. Only instead of A or B or + and -, I’m a little less specific. Right now, I’m on the border between, “Meh” and “ORLY?” We’re a good ways off from “OH HELL YEAH,” in other words. I’ve heard some folks bellowing from the rooftops that This is the Digital Reader that will SAVE CHRISTMAS, make EGGS, and maybe revolutionize digital… read more »

Random Bits of Awesomeness

September 08, 2009 | Tuesday | 23 Comments

First, from Sony Test Driver Liz, a story from Stockholm: In Stockholm, I was in a major department store called NK (http://www.nk.se/). This place makes Nordstrom look like a Target that’s trying too hard. There was a fashion show going on in the foyer, people were mobbing the Hermes boutique, and me? I just wanted to find the toy department in the hope that somewhere in Europe was a store not completely sold out of the GoGo Crazy Bones my kids asked me to bring back. My thought was lavish block long multi story department store = higher prices but… read more »
