Four Things

May 24, 2009 | Sunday | 11 Comments

Thing the first: Diana Rowland interviewed me for Magic District. She wanted to examine the issues facing romance, science fiction, and fantasy novels - and I apparently wanted to use the word “element” about sixteen times too many. It’s like an elemental drinking game at this point. Thank you for the interview, Diana! While I was traveling in scenic, windy, and unquestionably awesome Iowa, a segment I taped for Better.tv aired in a whole mess of places across the US. Host Audra Lowe interviewed me about the Bosoms, the power of romance in a recession, and what to do about… read more »

Smart Bitches Are Debutantes? HA!

May 09, 2009 | Saturday | 1 Comments

It’s time for another round of, “You’re doing what where, again?” Today I’m over at the Debutante Ball talking about wildlife encounters. I have a lot of pets but the wildlife I’m pondering is the wildlife on the internet, where we’re both the observer and the observed. Thanks to the Ball Committee for having me as a guest! read more »

Collaboration

May 04, 2009 | Monday | 6 Comments

I’m the guest du jour over at Over Coffee today, talking to Sia about collaboration and writing with a partner. I know there are some kickass critique groups out there, who collaboratively shape and refine each others’ work, but what about folks who write together under one name? What’s your experience like? As for me, and Candy, we’re still frequent flyers on Seat Of Your Pants Airline, in collaboration and pretty much damn near everything else. How do you work collaboratively? read more »

Smart Bitches on the Powell’s Interblag!

April 19, 2009 | Sunday | 15 Comments

Check it out, motherfuckers: I talk at length about the romance ghetto, why it’s a ghetto, how I got there and why I love it, and Sarah and I tackle disdain for romance novels and give recommendations. (Side note: that first sentence for the Ghetto article? Should read “Welcome to the romance ghetto.” Gahhhhhhhhhh I hate it when I omit words that way and don’t catch it.) Anyway, we are on the Powell’s Book Blog, eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. read more »

Brenda Janowitz Hosts Excerpts from ICH Handbook

April 16, 2009 | Thursday | 2 Comments

Over at Brenda Janowitz’ blog, we have a special, sneaky treat. A copy of the The International Consortium of Heroes’ supah-sekret Handbook (really, more like guidelines) of Romantic Hero Conduct has mysteriously found its way into Smart Bitch Candy’s hands, and behold, there art excerpts and funny bits to be read: Thanks to an Anonymous Source, we here at Smart Bitch Central have in our hot little hands the International Consortium of Heroes’ Manly Handbook to Heroic Behavior, the official ICH Guidebook for all things manly and heroic. Previously kept secret and circulated only among member heroes, this guide details… read more »

More Bitches on Brant Flakes

April 15, 2009 | Wednesday | 8 Comments

Over at Brant Flakes (HA) the blog of writer Marilyn Brant, Candy and I did a two-part interview wherein we talk about our favorite movies, tv shows, writing, and the intersection of our blog and our real lives.. My favorite part is this answer from Candy: I mostly watch TV shows on DVD nowadays, so I’m woefully behind the times and have only recently discovered Pushing Daisies. Man, Lee Pace. I want to climb him like a tree and lick him—not necessarily in that order. Thank you Marilyn! read more »

Sarah and the Granny Panties

April 15, 2009 | Wednesday | 3 Comments

Used to be we confined ourselves mostly to the hot pink Bitchery HQ. But not this week. Take cover Arizona! Sarah is over at the Granny Panty Chronicles talking with Karin Gillespie about respect, bosoms, and cliches. My favorite part: What are some cliches in romance novels you hope to never encounter again? Can we stop with the “It’s ok for me to mistreat you because I love you and know what’s best for you, even if I’m actually hurting you in the meantime?” Oh, and the plot acrobatics that establish some form of virginity for a heroine. It is… read more »

Carolyn Jewel hosts Smart Bitches

April 15, 2009 | Wednesday | 3 Comments

Carolyn Jewel, whose book Scandal I pimped to both KatieBabs and Jane, hosted me on her blog as part of our Crazy Wackass Blog Tour. Jewel hosts a mean interview, which is only fair, since we made her get up at the crack of the morning to be part of the Dear Bitches, Smart Authors podcast. Favorite part: Q: Do you have a favorite section of your book? Funniest line? A: Favorite section? Oh, boy. Probably the sexual mythology of romance novels, in which I discuss all the things that happen in sex scenes in romance novels that can’t possibly… read more »

Bitches Everywhere!

April 15, 2009 | Wednesday | 0 Comments

As part of the epic and random blog tour Candy and I embarked upon this week, many thanks to Jenny Gardiner (it’s all her fault), I answered some fun and thought provoking questions about writing and Bosoms for Judy Merrill Larsen at her blog, Not Afraid of the F Word. (Ha! Neither are we!) Favorite part: Are you more driven by plot or by character? I’m a character reader. A very standard plot trope between two incredible characters will rock my world every time in the hands of a skilled writer. Characters, especially truly realistic ones, are definitely my preference.… read more »

Beyond Heaving Bosoms Blog Tour 2009: Drunk Writer Talk

April 15, 2009 | Wednesday | 11 Comments

So Sarah and I, we’re separated by a whole continent, which is a tragedy and a travesty (tragesty? Travedy? Why do I like stupid portmanteaus so much?). Not only are we unable to hang out in person, we’re unable to make joint appearances at bookstore tours—in fact, the only time we’ll be able to do a signing in person together will be at the RWA National Conference this year. But lo! Not all is darkness and tears, because we can totally do blog tours together. Huzzah! So here’s the first in a series of blog guest appearances, both joint and… read more »
