I first noticed this book in Borders when I was working there as a bookseller (I miss my Borders, and I really miss my fellow employees. We have a standing date at our local pub on the 14th of every month so we don’t lose touch with each other and our facebook group is in honor of our favorite manager). I love silliness. Specifically, the Uncycopedia’s definition of a romance novel. My top faves: A good cover must be able to instantly quell the buyer’s instinctive urge to ponder “Do I really need to read another one of these books?” Wow. I’m amazingly susceptible because I acquire new romance more often than I acquire food. It at once probes the dewy moistness of plot, while it throbs with purpose, knowing no bounds in which its authors will stop to please and sate their gentle reader…. Every Sunday I have to go to the grocery store, usually to buy giant containers of Lactaid, some yogurt, and whatever heatable food items I can find for weeknight dinners (we haven’t had a kitchen since January and oh my holy mother of asparagus does it SUCK). I went a Google-hunting for a few links to Black romance reviews until I find find time on my tuffet to write some myself, and I found a very interesting article by Gwendolyn Osborne, aka “The Word Diva,” on AALBC.com. In her examination of Black romance, It’s All About Love, Osborne examines the stereotypes and issues facing romance, but more specifically, Black romance and the Black readers of romance novels.
