Traveling to Oz for GenreCon!

April 17, 2012 | Tuesday | 30 Comments

It's been officially announced, so I can share the giddy: I'm going to be one of the featured guests at the first GenreCon in Australia! The conference is being hosted by the Queensland Writers Centre as part of their Australian Writer's Marketplace program. Their description reads: "a weekend long party and networking opportunity for like-minded writers and publishing professionals united by their love of romance, fantasy, science fiction, crime, young adult, and other sub-genres that have been routinely segregated to their own corner of the bookshop. Genre fiction often gets overlooked at Australian literary festivals, but it’s the source of… read more »

Links and News and Stuff

March 28, 2012 | Wednesday | 14 Comments

I have a ton of links and interesting things to read. Isn't it awesome how the internet is full of words to read and things to look at?  From Janice G. an online game based on Pride and Prejudice, wherein you role play your way through several different options. The game is called Matches and Matrimony and, among other things, it promises "Emotionally stirring Music!" The fact that it's emotionally stirring AND that music is capitalized gives me much curiosity, I confess.  From Jennifer B comes an article that details the history of banned books in Australia - what was banned and… read more »

Abby and the Bachelor Cop by Marion Lennox

December 15, 2011 | Thursday | 18 Comments

I read this book in a matter of hours. That's how much I liked it. I didn't even notice that the Steelers were on, that there was dessert on the table, that it was past my bedtime. I thought it was charming and I loved reading it. I want to read everything Marion Lennox has written, and I want to read the rest of this series. But after I finished it, I found myself arguing with my own opinion, challenging how much I liked it, pointing out flaws and figuring out that, yup, despite them, I still liked it. I'm… read more »

Links!

August 18, 2011 | Thursday | 7 Comments

From the A to the H to the REF, these internet links are funky fresh. (This is why I am not a rapper.) This past week was the RWA conference - that’s Romance Writers of Australia, obviously. Philippa Borland, who is awesome, blogged many of the sessions at her site. What I found particularly interesting was the different responses from Australian branches of big six publishing houses in the editor’s panel, and in how the Australian discussion of ebooks by necessity had to focus on the fact that most ebooks aren’t for sale there. If you’re curious about the conference,… read more »

HaBO-Thon: Aussie Aussie Aussie

August 13, 2011 | Saturday | 7 Comments

This request comes from K, who read this book a long time ago - but it sounds fascinating! I read a historical romance somewhere between the late 1970’s or and mid 1980’s. It was set in Australia as it was being founded as a penal colony. Of course the usual theme, she hates him but is attracted to him. It was really interesting because it incorporated a lot of early Australian history into the romance, and in the end the hero names the town Adelaide after her. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Does anyone remember the name or author?… read more »

Her gorgeous, dark and deeply unimpressed boss, William McMaster, is stranded in Melbourne over Christmas—and it’s all her fault! Australia, Eyestrain, and Alpha Males (Yes, There’s Links)

January 20, 2011 | Thursday | 46 Comments

First, there’s a lot of terrible stuff going on around the world as far as natural disasters. There’s floods and mudslides and all sorts of horrible things. I have heard from a few readers that Australia, Queensland specifically, faces a horrible cleanup after torrential rains caused widespread flooding. Local papers are reporting that donations have dried up (I presume the pun is intended there), and residents are finally able to go try to salvage their homes and businesses. The Romance Writers of Australia are hosting a book drive to help replenish libraries, schools and community center book collections - as… read more »

Balance and Connection

January 09, 2011 | Sunday | 19 Comments

To balance the outright silliness of Snooki Snex, and to provide some breathing space for those who are reeling from the shootings in Arizona today, or bracing for more flooding rains in Queensland this coming week, or facing pain and trouble this weekend (there seems to be a LOT, holy moly), I wanted to provide four minutes of peaceful space. I hope you are ok, and if you’re feeling like I am today, I hope this helps you as well. I don’t wish to open political discussion here, as there are ample places all over the internet to have those… read more »

Sizzling Summer Book Club Selection: His at Night by Sherry Thomas

July 19, 2010 | Monday | 41 Comments

The next book! The next chat! A live in-person drink-a-fiesta at RWA! A whole lot of summer reading! Clearly I need to cut back on the caffeine today. If you’re just joining us (Hi there!) it’s time for the third pick of the Sizzling Summer Book Club where I pick a book, you think, “ORLY?” and I say, “YES RLY” and then we all read it and meet up online to talk about it. Prior selections were Tessa Dare’s One Dance With a Duke (I have it on good authority that the dance was in fact “Pumping Up my Bicycle”… read more »

HaBO: This Is How We Do It

June 10, 2010 | Thursday | 39 Comments

Audrey asks: So I have a HABO book I’ve been trying to track down for a while now, and I would enormously appreciate your help. The reason for my attachment to the book is a bit embarrasing but feel free to print if you use this: it got me all in touch (hehe) with my lady parts when I was 15. Apparently the love scenes were quite descriptive because I remember reading it and a lightbulb flashing THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT! So this is what I remember: it was a single title historical, most likely set in the… read more »
