Sounds Like a Movie

Nathalie Gray forwarded me the following link this morning: Chinese kung fu monks seek apology for ninja affront. Seems an internet user (those gnarly, horrible internet users!) posted that a single Japanese ninja beat several Shaolin monks from the Shaolin Temple in Henan, and the monks, they are pissed.

Now, longstanding cultural rivalries aside, why in the world would you want to piss off an entire temple full of Shaolin kung fu masters? Doesn’t that seem like it should be #2 on the “List of Very Bad Ideas?”

Filed: But...that's not really about romance novels

It’s definitely in the top 5.

What I find humorous is that even Shaolin Monks will get involved in online wank.  One would think they’d be above it all.

No one is immune from wank, apparently. Not even Shaolin monks.

    Or pirates, either, I bet.

It’s good to know they’re with the Information Age.

Personally, whoever PO’d them off is an idiot and hasn’t been by a Shaolin temple when they hold tournaments.

The monks have every right to feel affront. Even the Japanese ninja isn’t an original…the Chinese had masked assassins long before it occurred to the sushi-eaters. And “kara-te” means “China hand” (if you’re Chinese) but “empty hand” (if you’re Japanese)...so this little spat is part of a feud of loooooooooooooooooooong standing.

Btw, “kung fu” really only means “hard work”. The true name of the group of Chinese fighting styles is “Chinese Boxing”.

PS Are you sure you aren’t rigging the verification words? Mine was nation25.

Okay, so what is #1 on the “List of Very Bad Ideas?”

If the reference is The Princess Bride, #1 is “Never get involved in a land war in Asia.”

  7. SB Sarah said on 08.31.07 at 04:18 PM[link]

    Yes, that is absolutely #1.

But only slightly less well-known is: Never go up against a Sicilian when death is on the line.

Actually, it was Chuck Norris, beating up the Shaolin Kung-fu masters, *with* a ninja.

“Never get involved in a land war in Asia.”

Well, obviously. It’s full of Shaolin monks!

Man, I want to watch The Princess Bride. I bought in the States for my daughter for Christmas… when we got it home, there was no DVD in it!! Talk about a bummer. The thing was factory sealed too. Sigh. I hate Best Buy.

Yet another reason to read fark.com every morning.
