Sizzling Summer Book Club Selection: His at Night by Sherry Thomas

Sizzling Book ClubThe next book! The next chat! A live in-person drink-a-fiesta at RWA! A whole lot of summer reading! Clearly I need to cut back on the caffeine today.

If you’re just joining us (Hi there!) it’s time for the third pick of the Sizzling Summer Book Club where I pick a book, you think, “ORLY?” and I say, “YES RLY” and then we all read it and meet up online to talk about it. Prior selections were Tessa Dare’s One Dance With a Duke (I have it on good authority that the dance was in fact “Pumping Up my Bicycle” with a side of “Driving the Bus” and “Shopping for Groceries”) and Shannon Stacey’s Exclusively Yours (wherein we discussed the right way and wrong way to make s’mores).

Book CoverThis time around, we’re going to land of Victorian type people with Sherry Thomas’ His at Night.

You can get a digital copy from the Sizzling Summer Book Club partner All Romance eBooks with a sexy 50% rebate – just use coupon code “SBTBARE” at checkout. You can learn more about the rebate and how you could win an iPod Touch and $100 in eBook Bucks over at their Sizzling Book Club page.

You can also get a paper copy of His at Night from any number of fine, fine book vendors, including Book Depository (where the shipping is worldwide, like your pants, free, and very sexy), Amazon, and Powell’s.

I am really excited about this book and hope you enjoy it.

The book club discussion will be Sunday, 25 of July, at 9:00 pm EDT/6:00pm PDT/(11:00 am Monday in Brisbane, Australia). Sherry Thomas will be stopping by, too, and I’ll be giving away prizes from Ninth Moon, including a sleep tank-style shirt that has become rather coveted on Twitter.

PLUS I will be hosting a live Sizzling Summer Book Club gathering at RWA on Saturday afternoon, 31 July, 3:00 PM at a location to be determined. Have you seen the map of the Swan and Dolphin at Disney? Holy mouse ears, it’s huge! So I’m going to locate the perfect place (with a bar, obviously) and I’ll alert you to the location before Saturday. How?

Well, you can sign up for my email list: send an email to sarahATsmartbitchestrashybookDOTcom with the subject line “BOOKS” and I’ll alert you via email when the location is set.

Or, you can watch this space as I will blog about it.

Join My Group on Tatango OR, you can text “BOOKS” to 68398 and I will send out a text message to your cell phone with the location. You could also click that button right there and join the text group online – just enter your cell phone number. I used this same service, Tatango, at last year’s RWA, and it was spiffy.

Either way, regardless of what method you use, I won’t be giving your contact info to anyone, unless that person is really hot, definitely interested, and possessing of a brooding stare, billions in wealth, minty-fresh breath, or all three. I’ll be announcing the next book pick at the live event, and will have prizes to give away at the live chat on Sunday as well as the live event in Orlando.

Any questions, let me know – happy reading and talk to you on Sunday!

  1. Melissa says:

Excuse me for being lame, but where is the live chat going to be? 🙂

  2. Miranda says:

    That…is a very YELLOWOMGSOYELLOW dress.

  3. Wendy says:

That coupon code isn’t changing the price for me; it stays at 7.99. Is that the discounted price already?

Also, why is she dressed in the wallpaper???

  4. Brooks*belle says:

Good.  I’d been looking for an excuse to read the new Sherry Thomas book…

  5. robinjn says:

ditto Wendy’s question. I’m not getting the coupon code to work. Unless 7.99 is half price? Which seems a lot for half price?

  6. Brooks*belle says:

Mmmmh.  Same thing here—and I even looked at this page https://www.allromanceebooks.com/bookclub.html but couldn’t see any info on the rebate.  Maybe the vengeful rabbits hid it! ;P

  7. Ridley says:

    It’s a *rebate* not a discount.

You get 50% back in store credit after you purchase it. The price stays the same.

  8. Wendy says:

Rebate! Doy. Good eye, Ridley. Thank you.

  9. Karenmc says:

Love the book, and hope I can remember to show up on Sunday!

  10. SB Sarah says:

The chat will be here on the site – I’ll set up a special window and you’ll see it on the day of the chat session. Then it’ll go live and scroll like scrolling gone wild.

And yes. It is yellow. HELLO THERE yellow.

  11. Lindsey says:

Hm, I’d better make a note to bump this book to the top of my TBR list. I picked it up for a song this past weekend, and was going to wait awhile to start it, but this gives me an excuse to read it now. 😉

bill55: Huh, $55 was about the price of my bill from the used bookstore this past weekend.

  12. EbonyMcKenna says:

Just ordered a copy. It’s all your fault I’m hooked on Sherry Thomas! I won a copy of “Not Quite a Husband” and after that magnificent adventure I bought her two earlier ones. Fab reads.

  13. Wendy says:

Argh. I bought this book and now find out I can only read it on my computer, because I don’t have any of Adobe’s allowable devices, just my iPhone. I can read epubs on it, but the DRM on this one is strangling me. I will NEVER read it on my computer. Never.

I’m not even sure if I CAN pass the file along to someone else, but just in case I can, it’s up for grabs, and I’ll see if I can find it at one of my other sites. Argh. Waste of time and money. Argh.

  14. Beck says:

Can’t see where to buy a digital copy in Australia. If someone knows where you can I would be grateful for the information.

  15. sweetsiouxsie says:

I am looking forward to reading this book by an author I haven’t read before. I have found so many good writers thanks to this site. I’ll tune in on Sunday.

  16. peggy h says:

One of my favorite books read so far for the year (maybe even the last two years)!  Looking forward to the chat!

  17. Lotta says:

@ Wendy, HI – don’t dispair!  I spent a very frustrating 48 hours with the same problem (I have an iPad), and the iSavants at Apple didn’t help.  Who helped was the fantastic customer service at Allromance.  Download STANZA for iPhone and select eReader as the file type whenever you buy.  After a one time security check, the books will open automatically in your Stanza app just like epubs open in your apple thingee.  LORI JAMES explained this all to me and was happy to credit my account for the full amount after I’d bought the wrong file type (you’ll need to buy the correct format).  It really (RLY!) works like a charm and you’ll have no problem reading on your phone.  Send a reply to your confirmation email, and ask for Lori to give you a hand.  Good luck!

  18. JessicaL says:

I just used my ebook bucks from some of the other bookclub selections and was surprised to see I still got the discount, so I got a rebate on my rebates.  Pretty cool deal!

Is it wrong that I kind of really like all the yellow?  The dress on its own would probably be awful with all the ruffleyness going on, but I dig this cover.  AND this is my first Sherry Thomas book, so I’m kind of excited!

  19. sugarless says:

I’m digging the yellow – not so much the wallpaper though. I’ve loved the last two Sherry Thomas books I’ve read, so I’m pretty excited for this! Hope i remember!

  20. EbonyMcKenna says:

@Beck – I’m in Australia and they wouldn’t let me buy from them, so I bought a paperback from bookdepository instead.

It means I’ll probably miss the chat on Sunday because it won’t arrive in time (sigh) but hey, it’s going to be a fab read anyway.

  21. Beck says:

@Ebony – Thank you, I guess that’s what I’ll do too but I was just hoping for a different solution.

  22. Lori James says:

@Wendy – as @Lotta said. We can hook you up so that you can read the book on your iPhone. I know that SB Sarah is happy to be rid of her iPhone, but here in So. Cal. my iPhone works like a charm and is still my fav eBook reader. My phone is with me all the time and I don’t need to carry an extra device.

I’d love to hear what other mobile devices are working for folks…

As for the cover – I fell in L.O.V. E. with it. My son’s absolute favorite color is yellow, only until he was about twelve he called in lellow. He also had a bit of trouble with his “v’s”. We probably did irreparable damage by asking him to repeat the sentence: “Girls who wear yellow are very, very nice.”…“Glirls who bare lellow are bevry, bevry nice.”

I’m not a big fan of historical romance (ducking to avoid getting hit by anything) but I’m looking forward to this one. After all – I’ve heard that glirls who bare lellow are bevry, bevry nice.

    Lori James
    All Romance eBooks,

  23. Davi says:

I’m so excited we’re reading this! I’ve been looking at it, but ever since the post about people who pick romance novels because they like the cover (me), I’ve been trying to be more selective.

Also, I wanted to say that it’s totally awesome to be a part of a book club that reads books I actually *want* to read! Can we do this year round?

  24. orangehands says:

Ok, I am loving that cover so much I kind of want to buy it so I can use the cover as a poster.

  25. SB Sarah says:

I wanted to say that it’s totally awesome to be a part of a book club that reads books I actually *want* to read! Can we do this year round?

You like the romance reading club? I love it too! I’m so pleased to hear that!!

I’m definitely open to it continuing past summer. I might not be able to do it so often in the fall/winter but I’d be pleased to make it a regular rotating time-zone feature if you guys are into it, too!

  26. Brooks*belle says:

I can haz mor bookclub?!  Fabulous!

Please please please please please put one of Joanna Bourne’s book on the schedule.  I am shamefully in love with her writing and need to talk about it with fellow Romancias!

  27. sableheart says:

Yay! A decent time for me XD (don’t ask why I’m up so late now though) I managed to get the ebook from Books Depository btw. Minor frustration that I couldn’t get it from ARe.

I also love book club, please extend to every month or couple of months? please? *puppy dog eyes*

  28. Carrie says:

I luuuurve bookclub.  Please keep it going forever.  Also, here’s a crack-up:  I was so bummed that the book club selection wasn’t announced last week, because I was shopping/library-ing for books to read while my mom had her knee replacement and I sat vigil with ice packs etc.  At last I resigned myself to no book club pic and got…wait for it…His at Night!  Which I finished the day the selection was announced!  So cool!

thats23:  That’s 23 times my mom and I have bitched about hospital food.  Today.

  29. Kilian Metcalf says:

I lurve Victorian fiction, especially Anthony Trollope.  I’m reading Ayala’s Angel with an online bookclub right now.  Fascinating to see how he is able to describe sexual attraction or repulsion within the confines of Victorian sensibility.

thing48 – if he had worked just a little hard, he could have written 48 novels instead of the 47 he completed before he died while laughing

  30. Laine says:

I’m in Australia and I bought His at Night in epub from The Book Depository. It cost A$7.50.

They only do it in epub as that’s the standard in England and that’s where TBD is.

They mail paper books with no postage costs round the world and because they’re based in England they have some ebooks you can’t get in America or Australia. Not a lot though. The paper book The Mammoth Book of Regency Romances cost me all of A$11.50.

By the way Sarah, you usually announce these books about 2 days after I’ve bought them and I miss the discount.

  31. little_gem UK says:

I will probably miss the chat due to the time difference (I’m from the United Kingdom) but I’m so in for reading this book.

Will there be a transcript for this chat up?

  32. Niamh says:

    @Beck and @Ebony

I can’t seem to purchase it from ARe either from Europe (Ireland). the site must only be US based which makes no sense to me as it’s a digital book not hard copies, surely they should be download-able from anywhere in the world? (I’m probably completely wrong about that- someone with knowledge of the world publishing trade feel free to correct me)
And it’s not a licence/ publishing date thing coz the book is available on amazon uk.

Unfortunately I don’t have any kinda of ereader and just read ebooks on my laptop and my local bookshop will definitely not have this book, nor will I get it in time for the chat if I order it on amazon plus by the time I pay package/posting etc it’ll cost me about €13 (around US$16) which is way too expensive right now!

Oh well, if any international Bitches figure it out, please let me know.
    Thanks

  33. Niamh says:

P.S. the probability that I’m being a stupid bitch rather than a smart one and forgetting to do something on the ARe webwite is very high (been a long day!), so feel free to point it out my mistake to me….

  34. Lori James says:

Unfortunately – The bookclub pick this month comes with Territory/Rights restrictions. It’s not a site thing, a publisher thing, or even an author thing. We’ve seen several books in a series come with world-wide rights and then, bam, suddenly one doesn’t. Three cheers to all those authors and publishers who contract for world-wide rights. Hip – Hip – Hooray!

  35. Melissa says:

I just finished this! I don’t remember the last book I read that quickly. I’m looking forward to the bookclub meeting. 😀

  36. Catriona Fitzgerald says:

Hi to fellow Australians, I was able to get the ebook from the book depository in the UK
    http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/

It even worked out a little cheaper.

  37. Erin says:

Stayed up until 2am last night reading this book – loved it!  Can’t wait for the chat!!

  38. Kim says:

This was one of my favorite reads of the year. What a great book club pick.

  39. Niamh says:

    @Catriona
thanks for the info: I was able to purchase it from the [url=http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/]

and it was a little cheaper too..
    thanks

  40. lori James says:

    @Catriona –

    Thanks for the tip!

There are Territory/Rights restrictions on this title that block our ability to sell in certain areas. 🙁

For folks in the EU we’re referring to http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/ They .don’t have the secure eReader format, but they do have secure ePub.

It’s still cheaper for folks in the U.S. to purchase the title at AllRomance.com when you take the rebate into account. Book Depository is listing a recommended retail of 9.99 USD with a mark down to 5.89. We’re listing 7.99 and after rebate that comes down to 3.99.

Remember to enter the rebate code SBTBARE. If you didn’t enter it at the point of purchase, email us with the order number and we’ll add it to your account balance.
