Announcing the October book club pick: What I Did for a Duke by Julie Anne Long!
For years, he's been an object of fear, fascination . . . and fantasy. But of all the wicked rumors that shadow the formidable Alexander Moncrieffe, Duke of Falconbridge, the ton knows one thing for certain: only fools dare cross him. And when Ian Eversea does just that, Moncrieffe knows the perfect revenge: he'll seduce Ian's innocent sister, Genevieve—the only Eversea as yet untouched by scandal. First he'll capture her heart . . . and then he'll break it.
But everything about Genevieve is unexpected: the passion simmering beneath her cool control, the sharp wit tempered by gentleness . . . And though Genevieve has heard the whispers about the duke's dark past, and knows she trifles with him at her peril, one incendiary kiss tempts her deeper into a world of extraordinary sensuality. Until Genevieve is faced with a fateful choice . . . is there anything she won't do for a duke?
There were moments when I read this book that I laughed aloud so hard my kids came running because the tv wasn't supposed to be on and clearly I had to be watching tv to be laughing that hard. I found this book to be hilarious and fun and smart and so entertaining - and I cannot wait to discuss it!
PLUS, it's already on sale for $.99c US - so with the AllRomance rebate, the after-rebate cost is .50c. How awesome is that?
The rebate is on now, so if you buy at ARe between now and 15 October, you'll get 50% back in eBook Bucks if you use code SBTBARE at checkout.
PLUS, Avon was kind enough to give me 7 paper copies, and I'm kicking in 10 digital copies to give away right now! Just tell me in the comments What You Would Do for What I Did for a Duke (and please include the format you prefer) and you're entered to win. I'll select the winners using Ye Olde Randome Integere Generatorrre on Thursday, October 4.
Standard disclaimers apply: Open to international residents. Must be 18 years of age or older and wearing a nightgown in a windstorm to win. Void where prohibited. Head on. Apply directly to the forehead. All characters in this novel are fictitious and bear no resemblance to any actual human living or dead, except for one. Maybe - oh, fine, it's the shark with the laser beam on its head.
ETA: Book club chat date is set! The book club chat will be October 23 at 9:00 pm ET, and Julie Anne Long will join us at 10pm ET. Need a button to add that magic to your calendar? Here, have a button:

I would definitely wear a nightgown in a windstorm. Maybe even be naked in a rainstorm… But then, I’d do that anyway.

I would write, produce and perform my own rap video for a duke. Yo.

ooooohhh . . . but I would be super smooth for a day and hubby would be happy!!
An (old-fashioned) paper copy please!

What would I do for a copy? I have no idea. Read out loud to the chickens? Put the book in our family pictures? Read it? Beats me! If I win I’d love a digital copy that will work on my Nook. Cause, yea, I don’t even know what will work!

I would allow the Duke to do whatever I ask him to (why does he need to be in charge . .. ?) Paper copy could be cool, though epub fine if you run out.

I’d clean my apartment for What I Did for A Duke (I hate cleaning) (I’m also betting my boyfriend is crossing his fingers hoping I win this), I’d TRY not to eat chocolate for a week, I’d worship and reread and be all kinds of fangirl over it!
I was totally swept away by What I Did for a Duke when I read it, so YES PLEASE enter me! I’d prefer a paper copy.
Thanks for the giveaway!

For a free copy of a book, clearly, I would post a comment for a mere chance. What else I might do I’m not sure. Now, for a chance to read it and talk about it with like minded folks, I would do a tap dance.
Lauren Clancy said on 10.01.12 at 09:01 AM • [link]
I would listen to the Head On commercials for days for a Duke. paper please, but if you run out, I can do compatible with Kindle e-books. :)

i own this book in multiple formats b/c it is so freaking good and if i’m ever on a deserted island, i will have a variety of ways to read this book b/f the battery dies. i just re-read it again and was STILL laughing at the “moons disappearing over the windowsill”. harharhar. i wish i were a virgin reader so i could be won over all over again!
Tam B. said on 10.01.12 at 09:20 AM • [link]
I would admit in what seems to be fairly knowledgable company that I have read this book OR a book by the author (gasp and hangs head in shame). Please don’t kick me out!
So I obviously need you to take me in hand and educate me with a copy (e-version) of this book so that I can then go forth and sing it’s praises to the masses (or just post on facebook about it).
Tam B. said on 10.01.12 at 09:24 AM • [link]
I forgot the all important NOT in that opening sentence.
(Obviously I need my proof reading taken in hand too.)

I would totally tackle cleaning out the scary places at the back of my fridge.
Oh, wait… I have to do that anyways, and I have nothing to read so it is getting harder to avoid it. :P
I would also admit that I prefer paper books… because I don’t own an e-reader. Of any sort. Because I am the world’s most technologically literate Luddite, it seems.
Colleen said on 10.01.12 at 10:02 AM • [link]

Good thing I checked my NOOK library first—I was going to enter, but realized I had bought this one recently (though I think at the time I paid 1.99). Finally, a book I already have in my pile for the book club. :D
Though I haven’t read the previous books in this series—will I be lost?
(Don’t enter me!)
Enjoy!

What I wouldn’t do is give up my paper copies of the Pennyroyal Green series—but for a Kindle copy of this e-book—ummm, I’d get on the treadmill for the length of time it took me to read the book again. Not all at once, of course—I’m too fluffy.
This book is amazing.

What would I do with a copy? Read it :)
I would prefer an ebook copy as all print copy book buying is on hold until I own a big enough bookcase (for which I first need to own a home that can house a big enough bookcase)

For a paper copy of a truly funny romance, I would actually cull my book collection. I might even give up my treasured copy of the lolarious “The Sword and the Sheath,” because even a wonderfully cringeworthy story and cheesy cover art are helpless before good plot.

I would love a digi copy. It’s my birthday tomorrow, and I’m leaving for vacation in two weeks—I’m trying to load up my reader with as much ‘smut’ as possible. I figure I will be amused—both by reading the book and by the idea that some redfaced customs agent might get nosey.

I’d walk to the top of the hill that is my backyard and pause at the fence in my flowing night gown. Then I would proceed to sing and/or quote cheesy romance things to my neighbor’s goats: Jackson and Sally. (and they would be grateful.)

I would allow myself to be photographed with my bodice undone, kneeling before Fabio while clutching his thigh. The wind machine would blow his mullett into the seagull lurking in the background and there would be fuchsia, lots and lots of fuchsia.

I’d go on a liquid diet for 3 days for What I Did for a Duke. Well, okay, probably 2 days. Yes, 2 days of drinking only liquid for a kindle version of What I Did. Wait, no. Make that 1 day. Yes, definitively 1 day. Morning to evening counts as a day, right?
Rosiebud63 said on 10.01.12 at 04:58 PM • [link]

No you won’t be lost… I read this one first in the series too (I haven’t read the whole series yet, and what I have read was not in order at all - I just downloaded the first one because it was 1.99 this weekend). Then I read it again because I loved it so much.

I would offer Smart Bitch Sarah first choice from my book collection that I will be dismantling over the next year. Actually, I’d open it up to the whole Bitchery if I could, and take payments on Paypal.
Nook copy, please! Because, obviously, I’m getting rid of the dead-tree collection.

Just finished the book. It was so good. It took a little bit longer than usual to get into it for me—certainly longer than the publisher’s free sample—but at 99¢, who could say no? So glad I read it, even if I can’t make the online discussion. Great writing, interesting characters, & plenty of humor. The book becomes a real page-turner a few chapters in, and is a better than average historical, full of genuine emotional content instead of tired plot devices (spoiler alert: no one gets kidnapped!). Def going to buy something else by Julie Anne Long soon.

I would totally buy him a new shirt, since it appears that his is ripped beyond repair. Or is it supposed to open in the back?
I would prefer an electronic copy, but I’m easy, I’ll take whatever’s available. :-)
Thanks!

For a free copy of the book, I’ll share my M&Ms. I would love a digital copy (kindle) but would also gladly accept a paperback copy.

I would groom his horse and him if he would let me. LOL.
I would prefer print but digital is fine as I also have a Kindle.

Let’s see, I’d send you some fresh blackberries from the bushes in our yard (overnight, of course), send you one romance-themed drawing by my three-year old daughter (her choice and likely to include dinosaurs or jellyfish) and I’d seriously consider detailing one of your vehicles (if you live in the Seattle, Honolulu, Paris or Tokyo metropolitan areas)!

For $.99, I went ahead and bought it – That’s what I would do for a Duke! The book club chat hits right at dinner here in Mountain time, but the book sound like fun whether or not I get to talk about it online.
