SBTB Loves You So We Give You Baby Penguins

by SB Sarah | July 10, 2008 | Thursday at 12:58 pm | 19 Comments

Want a massive squee to start your day? How about a baby blue penguin being raised by biologists. Clare Duffy, sister of Kate Duffy of Kensington, reports on MSNBC in a video that was so popular online, they ran it on the evening television program Saturday night.

How can a baby penguin NOT be popular, I wonder? Impossible.

ETA: A US-only feed? NOT COOL BEAVIS. I’m sorry! Thanks to Elinyx, here’s one that works.

So cute. The original link didn’t work for me either, but this one did in the UK: http://video.aol.com/video-detail/baby-penguin-takes-to-people-parents/427240196

Cute baby penguins worked for me.  Man, if my daughter sees those, she’s gonna be after me to buy her a penguin.

Yup. That does it. I want a penguin, dammit. And my family already thinks I’m Ellie Mae Clampett with all of the critters I feed, adopt, rescue and otherwise get my mitts on…

Thanks for the link!  I have now been able to see it.
That was a good, informative video, and really good to watch.

Glad the link worked - I had no idea that the stream was US only. My bad.

And as for penguins, I know what you mean Sara R. We have four cats, a dog, and some fish, plus assorted human males in our house, and I just got an email from the local shelter that they are overrun with kittens and are looking for homes for them.

I immediately said, “Hey! We can adopt two more and name them LOL and Kitteh!”

Hubby: “OH, HELL NO!”

Thanks elinyx!

Thunk!

*dead from cute*

Just make sure it doesn’t meet our black-footed ferrets.  I don’t think they’d pay nicely together.

Well…....I see you never did say anything about Cassie Edwards having a severe stroke.

You caused that woman nothing but stress and problems and now you ignore what has happened!  Shame on you and the authors and readers who helped you!

Aww, blue baby penguin. So much cute, I want one but the idea of making that herring formula every day? No (sigh) I guess not.

I would probably have 45 pets if I had the room

Ahhh, I don’t want a baby penguin, I hate the smell of fish. I don’t mind the smell of bamboo though, I want a baby Panda.

I saw this on the news and about died. Just too cute!!

We just sent an email to a rescue group about another dog. That would make 3. Along with the 3 cats.

I need a bigger house.

BTW, did anyone notice hunky boyfriend who loves her animals?  The penguin was cute, but cute boyfriend needs to be cloned!

lilywhite said on 07.11.08 at 01:36 AM

Yeah, sign me up for a clone of summa that.  And what a cool trick with the dog jumping into his arms!

Cute penguins, OMG!!!  I wonder if a baby penguin would violate the pet rule at our house?  Our rule is:  no pets that are prey for the ones we already have.  So since we have cats, no fish, birds or mice.  And since we have a dog, no guinea pigs or rabbits. Or ferrets, alas (not that I could anyway, as they’re illegal in California).

Thanks for the cute!

Aww!

I once was in a penguin reservation of sorts, where there were trenches for people to walk in between a colony of penguins (though the adults are at sea until nightfall, and we only saw chicks). A few weeks in the year all the penguins come ashore in couples to moult, a time which they basically have to sit out because they can’t do a thing - not eat, not swim, nothing - and they’re very vulnerable. The woman guide told us that once one couple, apparently thinking ‘well, this is gonna be boring, how do we make it more fun?’, decided to moult in the trenches, so they could spent their days… watching people.

Penguins are so cute.
