Book Cover Here’s the deal: we dig this book. We dig this book like damn and whoa, and we think you will too. And yet, so many people say the contemporary romance is a dying breed. So, in order to spread the word and the opportunity to read it we’re doing a multi-level giveaway in tandem with our reviews of Instant Attraction

Part the First: free books! Leave a comment and you’re automatically entered to win a copy. We each have 5 paper copies of the book give away, so drop a word here and at Dear Author and double your chances. Comments will be open for 24 hours starting now.

Second: Spread the Word! Below is a Sprout widget about our campaign, and a simpler animated graphic. Right-click-and-save the graphic, or grab the Sprout for yourself, and put it on your site. Let us know that you’ve done so .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), and you’ll be entered to win a copy of the book, plus a Flip Video Ultra Series Camcorder. ETA: Deadline is midnight CST Sunday, 25 January.

Spread the word, let us know, and you’re entered to win. That’s it.

The Spread the Word winner will be announced in 1 week, so tune in on Monday 26 January to see who wins a book and a really kickass video camera in our quest to Save the Contemporary.

I’m attracted to the Contemporary.  Reading a book, saving the world.

Jenna said on 01.19.09 at 05:06 PM

I’d love to read this—I was so disappointed when I trooped off to Amazon and realized that (a) it wasn’t out yet and (b) didn’t seem to have an ebook version. I need instant gratification!

Rhian said on 01.19.09 at 05:09 PM

I recently read and loved ‘Get a Clue’ by Jill Shalvis, and based on that one book I’d like to read her whole back catalogue. Please sign me up! :)

closetcrafter said on 01.19.09 at 05:31 PM

Contemporaries definitely have a place among romances. I need them as a foil to historicals and paranormal. And because the dialogue isn’t limited by vernacular, the characters can let er rrip!!  And who doesn’t like Jill Shalvis.  Really

Rita said on 01.19.09 at 05:36 PM

I got so excited when I saw the great review that I immediately hopped on Amazon in hopes of downloading it…so sad to see it hasn’t released yet!

Please count me in on the contest!

Cassie said on 01.19.09 at 05:37 PM

I love contemporaries, but since I read mostly m/m, they’re in a different category.

I guess I need to read more regular contemporaries…

(my word was believe64…seems appropriate)

Val said on 01.19.09 at 05:44 PM

Free books = happy Monday.

Found34 - If I find 34 more new authors I’ll be able to make it through that vacation with family. So keep bringin’ em!

Chris said on 01.19.09 at 05:44 PM

Go, contemporaries! (Although I have to ‘fess up to reading mostly paranormal…)

Eyre said on 01.19.09 at 05:45 PM

I’ve never read a Jill Shalvis novel.  It sounds great!  I love contemporaries, but like Cassie, I’ve been reading more MM lately.

Amy Lynn said on 01.19.09 at 05:57 PM

I’m all for saving the contemporaries.  One of the best books I’ve read all year was a contemporary.

Somehow, for me, getting a man out of his jeans is so much better than getting him out of his breeches!!!!

JewelTones said on 01.19.09 at 05:57 PM

Love Jill Shalvis!  I’m so glad to see she has another book out, and I love this contest!  As a writer, contemporary is my favorite genre.  I love to read it and write it.  So the idea of it “vanishing” irritates and saddens me.  :(  They said the same thing at some point about western romances, historicals and even paranormal at one point and those came back strong.  Contemporaries just need some kind of packaging beyond cutsey covers.  They’ll find it.  I have faith.  :)  Goooooo Contemporaries!

Vicki said on 01.19.09 at 05:59 PM

Oooh, please. It looks interesting/fun/contemporary. Send a little love my way….

Emily M. said on 01.19.09 at 06:00 PM

I really hope contemporary romance doesn’t go anywhere. I love it.

Frannie said on 01.19.09 at 06:03 PM

I love contemporaries and Jill Shalvis is one of my favourites.  Her dialogue is so clever and her heroes are yummy.  I’d LOVE to win a copy of this book (but Jill, if you’re reading comments, I’ll buy it for sure if I don’t!).

A “Save the contemporary” tee sounds awesome (re: Jodie).  I have a theory that I get 10% more tips at my bartending job if guys can “read” my chest.  More if they can actually comment on what I’m wearing.  That shirt would certainly generate conversation.  A bonus would be if I actually won the book that it referenced!

An Goris said on 01.19.09 at 07:26 PM

sign me up! I love free books and your review is promising :)

Farscapegirl said on 01.19.09 at 07:38 PM

LOL Ok now I have to jump in on this happy band wagon…. I’m all for saving stuff, whales, monkeys, contemporary books. Whatever. Just hand me a placard and wave me to where I’m to stand and I will be there.
Oh wait this is the internet, ok now I feel slightly useless, here I am willing to endure snow and freezing winds for the cause and I’m left just writing this goofy message on a board.
Hope my sincerity rings true, hope you know I fully appreciate what an endangered breed this contemporary romance book represents. I wouldn’t want the whole species to go extinct just because bloodsuckers and shape-shifters have taken over the world with there well thought out campaign of gore and biting being the new sexiest thing. Now that’s HOT. Ooops I mean, bad vamp, down dog, let the regular Joe humans have a fighting chance here!

Well count me in in the quest to re-establish regular humane males back to the forerunner in romance!  Grrr get me a Sugar Daddy, um I mean, Go sexy contemporary romance, Go!

Dark Puck said on 01.19.09 at 07:39 PM

Free book?  Why the hell not?

Aemelia said on 01.19.09 at 07:40 PM

whoo-hooo free books….and one that sound so good!

Karen said on 01.19.09 at 07:45 PM

Just bought two contemp romances in the last week….but not this one.  Would love to check it out.

Lori said on 01.19.09 at 07:48 PM

Sign me up.  The one Jill Shalvis book I read was seriously bad, but bad in a way that made me think I might like other things by her.  A free book would be an excellent way to test that theory.

Summer said on 01.19.09 at 07:52 PM

Hooray for contests!  Hooray for free books!  :)

Maya M. said on 01.19.09 at 07:53 PM

The cover does nothing for me (repeat:  NOTHING) but I can’t resist any novel that promises laughs.

Jess said on 01.19.09 at 07:55 PM

Oh, yes please! Your last contemporary recommendation was fantastic read so am definitely going to have to grab this one now.

I give up trying to paste anything widget or otherwise to facebook or myspace. I just can’t do it.
Otherwise I would be happy to cause I would really like to win. but since the kid who used to do this is no longer here and instead of showing me how would just do it like Speedy Gonzales, I am still not able to figure it out.

Being old is a bitch sometimes.

Samantha said on 01.19.09 at 08:52 PM

Oh! I am still so happy that you guys are promoting the Contemporary! :)

Rachel D said on 01.19.09 at 08:57 PM

I kind of gave up on contemporaries because it seemed like they were all about cowboys, cops, millionaires, and girls who like shoes way, way more than I do. Basically I seemed to relate more to the characters in historicals.  But that was years ago and I am sufficiently intrigued by the recommendations that I am currently waiting for “Talk Me Down” to arrive from Amazon.  So maybe I will have to be giving the genera another shot.
