Rule #4: Do Not Piss Off the Fabio

by SB Sarah | March 07, 2008 | Friday at 5:46 pm | 13 Comments

Remember that time I told everyone about my secret love of Fabio and how that profile in Details magazine burst my silly love bubble?

About that: Fabio is pissed. He sent a letter to Details, which they’ve posted on their website, rebutting a few of the points of their article, specifically that his eyes are not green, his teeth not capped, and the 80’s? Not a blur. He then says, “By the looks of it, I would say that the interview must have been a blur to your writer.”

Oddly, the part that stayed with me from the original article was that his hair was stringy. Does this mean that it’s true?

Graceful curtsy to Tamara for the link.

So, the rest of the article making him look like a total idiot was right then? LOL

I love that Fabio has his own letterhead.

Can you say ‘vain’, boys and girls?

For him to get pissy about a couple of stats, but not address anything else in that ‘profile’?!

Yeesh.  It’s a good thing this one isn’t breeding.

    got84 - 84? is that his cranium’s circumference, or his i.q.?

The only thing that matters to me is that Fabio has turned down the opportunity to be on “Dancing With The Stars”. The question we need to ask ourselves is: How can we correct this tear in the universal fabric of television entertainment and appeal to Mr. Fabio to reconsider?

I dunno, I still can’t hate on the Fabio too much after seeing that parody commercial he did where he goes from a hottie gondolier to a dried-up prune.  I laughed until it hurt—far past the point of tears—I swear, I thought I was gonna pass out.  Was doing that silent scream/laugh where you’re laughing so hard you can’t make a sound.

I will love him forever after that.  But yeah, he is a large bit too vain.  He probably thinks this song is about him.

Ouch, look at the tags on the blog entry.  Harlequin-has-beens.  I will personally always dig Fabio, that ‘I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter Website’ is classic rofflecakes.

Apparently being the star of the fantasies of middle aged women is so shameful. (Since middle age women shouldn’t have sexual fantasies, they are too old for sex)  The Detail article was too, too bitchy. So Fabio is vain. Admittedly, he has gotten more mileage out of his looks than anyone should.  However, I have a friend who met Fabio in the 80s. she tells me that he was a complete gentleman.

I would love to Fabio on a realty tv show.

I was lucky enough to meet Fabio in 1995. As someone mentioned, he was a complete gentleman. It was my first RT conference and as long as I live I will never forget it.
He was in a room on a dais where he was meeting readers, having his photo taken etc. There had to have been at least 200 women waiting in line to meet him.
A young woman came in and she was in a wheelchair - there was no way she could get up on the dais to meet him.  Without blinking an eye, he called a halt to everything, got off the dais and spent several minutes with her. Her smile was huge when she left and I couldn’t help but admire him for that one little act of kindness - not many people would have even noticed this woman in that situation.
So ya’ll can say what you want, I don’t care if he is the most vain, stupidest person on the planet, he is genuinely a nice person who goes the extra mile for his fans.

There’s every chance in the world that you’re correct in your assessment of Fabio.  For his sake and the sakes of all his fans, I sure hope so.

But I have to wonder whether he would’ve been so gallant if there hadn’t been that audience of 200 plus adoring women to witness that display.

I love that Fabio has his own letterhead.

And I love that it’s got a line for him to sign on at the bottom—as if he’d miss the spot and sign somewhere inappropriate if it weren’t there.

SB Sarah - is this the time I tell you that I found a book “written” by Fabio at a USB shortly after that Details magazine interview?  And that it’s made of awesome?  Of course in this context, “awesome” means a big WTF-fest with some “are you shitting me?” for the grand finale.  I’d love to send it to you.  For a second opinion only, of course - not because I’m trying to torture you or anything.  (I mean, I never even knew he “wrote” until I came across this book.  But a check of Amazon confirmed it wasn’t a one time thing.  Who knew?)

Erm, I read one of his books when I had a huge crush on him.  When I was 13.

I’m currently still laughing hysterically from a comment on Jezebel:
“I hear faces have a hard time amortizing birds, too.”

I should bookmark this post to read whenever I’m down.  Anything Fabio just ends up making me laugh until I cry, if I follow the links long enough.

I feel bad for celebs like Fabio when they are in some situations, like with the girl in the wheelchair, it seems lose lose for them. If he had not gone down to her, he probably would have been considered a huge jerk. But he did, and instead it’s “well, he wouldn’t have done it if all those people hadn’t been watching. I say good for Fabio - for embracing his campiness AND his fans.

That was amazing. I’m still giggling.
