Title: Hidden Away
Author: Maya Banks
Publication Info: Berkley 2011
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Most people would take an all-expenses-paid trip to the beach in a heartbeat. Garrett Kelly only accepts to keep tabs on Sarah Daniels, who's in hiding after witnessing a murder by Marcus Lattimer, her half-brother--and a personal enemy of KGI. This gig may be beneath a disciplined soldier like Garrett, but if he gets a shot at Lattimer, it will all be worth it...
But Garrett hadn't counted on falling for Sarah. He'd considered seduction as a tactical maneuver, but when he glimpses Sarah's dark past, he feels an urgent desire to keep her safe--even after she disappears on him. Garrett doesn't know exactly who, or what, Sarah's running from, but whatever it is, she's running for her life...
And here is Randee's review:
Of the romantic suspense I’ve read it the last few years, Maya Banks’ KGI Series is among the very best. The stories get better with each book, and she manages something with this series many others don’t – each book is completely different. The Darkest Hour ( A | BN | K | S) has a man seeking is missing wife; our heroine comes to the Kelly compound on the run from in No Place to Run ( A | BN | K | S); Hidden Away puts our hero on an island to watch over a suspect; Whispers in the Dark ( A | BN | K | S) and Echoes at Dawn ( A | BN | K | S) (just released July 3) add the paranormal elements of telepathy and remote healing. Whispers and Echoes both brought me to tears.
Garrett is my favorite of the Kelly brothers. He’s got major kick-ass skills, but he’s also soft-spoken, sensitive and has a sense of humor. He says, “Plenty of things scare me. Pregnant women scare me.” … “They’re the more violent species. And unpredictable. I’d rather take on a wild boar. You can’t shoot women.”
He pulls the gig to watch over Sarah because he’s recovering from a gunshot wound he sustained trying to save a woman and because he has a personal reason to hate Sarah’s step-brother. His protective instincts come out when it comes to Sarah, an innocent tossed into a world of danger she’s not prepared for. But she’s smart and intuitive, doing all she can to keep herself safe.
Hidden Away is a great combination of well-drawn, strong characters; a sweet and sexy romance; and a suspense plot that will keep you turning pages. And books four and five are even better.
