Ok, Enough Teasing
by SB Sarah | by SB Sarah | November 14, 2008 | Friday at 8:01 pm | 102 CommentsEnough teasing. We’re ridiculously amused by our cover, and it’s about time we showed it to you, so, you ready?
It’s a work of art, a book cover… well, really it’s visual game we call Find the Hidden Phalli with your hosts, Sarah, Candy, and Touchstone/Fireside.
The cover of the Smart Bitch Book, Beyond Heaving Bosoms: The Smart Bitches’ Guide to Romance, due out 14 April 2009, isn’t at Amazon yet (sorry folks) so this (and our email inbox) is the only place you can find it, and a few other hidden images.

I’m super excited to read this book, you guys. The cover is awesome and hello…cover quote from Nora? How hard does that rock. I want a cover quote from Nora! (never mind the fact that I don’t write anything except a blog). I can’t wait until April. Wheee!
SB Sarah said on 11.14.08 at 08:24 PM • [link]
Angela: Thank you! You rock.
Anne: Our editor, Sulay, is going to be so pleased to hear that, because she thought the “sculpture” was the funniest part of the image.

This is the most awesomest cover ever!
And what Angie said about the Nora quote. Holy sheet!

That’s one gorgeous cover. I love the color scheme, and the retro 50s feel. Bonus points for the suggestive sculpture and the woman being a redhead!

That rocks! And here’s how you know I’m from San Francisco…when Angela said she used something like this in a sex scene recently, I pictured an S/M type “scene” in real life.

What? Cassie Edwards didn’t wanna give you a cover quote?
————————————-
Isn’t it enough that you people set out to destroy her career and almost caused her death?
In case you don’t know, which I know for a fact you have been told, Cassie Edwards suffered a massive stroke due to the stress you idiots put on her.
I hope you can live with yourselves knowing what you did almost cost this woman her life. You have deprived her grandchildren of their grandmother. You have caused a lot of innocent people much heartache by your actions.
Everyone is blaming you and your cronies for what happened. Not just her fans, fan club members, etc. I’m talking publishers, authors, editors, and more. I hope almost killing someone was worth the 15 minutes of fame.
If you have any reason to think this is a lie, contact Carol Stacy at Romantic Times and I’m sure she’ll verify the information for you.
A lot of Cassie’s fans plan on being at the RT convention in Orlando just so they can attend your blogging seminar. Instead of it being about the art of blogging maybe it should be about the art of how to destroy a person’s life.

kerry said on 11.15.08 at 05:31 AM • [link]
Wait, someone is actually suggesting that people here caused someone’s stroke? Wha?
I mean, I am sorry that she had a stroke if this is true. That’s very sad.
However, I hardly think that pointing out someone’s unethical behavior constitutes “causing them a stroke.” If there had been no untoward behavior (ie plagiarism) in the first place, then there wouldn’t have been a “controversy.” Plagiarism is wrong, it’s stealing, and it’s also shafting all of those “fans” that paid good money for a book they thought was original. Again, if the intellectual theft hadn’t happened, there wouldn’t have been any “stress.”
Not sure what “Cassie’s fans” hope to gain by attending the RT seminar, but is that supposed to be a threat? Because addressing meanness (in your opinion) with more meanness is…supposed to solve something? Undo the poor woman’s stroke? Make “Cassie’s fans” feel better? Grow up, people.
ev said on 11.15.08 at 05:43 AM • [link]
First- I think you should send a copy to Doc Turtle for review.
Secondly- Kelli, I am sorry you feel that way, but I believe strongly in Karma. what you put in is what you get out. The only person who destroyed Cassie Edward’s life is Cassie Edwards, IF you are going to blame the stroke on anything besides a medical problem.
If the so called fans are going to show at RT and try and disrupt what is supposed to be a good time for everyone, not an open bitch session because they fail to see it for what it is, than that is sad and I hope that they are escorted out quietly so that those who paid to hear a session get what they paid for. Not a cheap floor show.

Midknyt said on 11.15.08 at 06:02 AM • [link]
On the Cassie Edwards thing:
First off, a stroke is caused by a blood clot blocking blood flow to the brain or by bleeding inside the brain or the space around it. Neither of which are stress induced - that’s something you got from bad soap operas. The most likely cause? The woman is in her 70s. It happens all the time.
Second, if the stress from the whole situation was able to cause a stroke, the person at fault would be herself. No one made her plagiarize, and she should be happy she got away with it so long. If I got thrown in jail for stealing, and got hurt while in jail, would you blame the person that caught me stealing? She did something wrong and the resulting career issues are a result of what she did - we just pointed it out.
Finally, if you hate us so much and are blaming us for the woman’s demise, why are you sitting there reading through posts that aren’t Edwards related, as well as all the comments that follow? I come to this site for my own personal enjoyment and I don’t even read all the comments. That’s quite a time-intensive obsession you have there.
As for the cover: Sorry, I’m with Bonnie. I’m not loving it, but maybe I’m not just a big retro girl.
Midknyt said on 11.15.08 at 06:04 AM • [link]

I love the retro cover! Even the font is great. Clearly you ladies have done your homework and know what makes the perfect cover. And her fingers aren’t funny, they’re all tensed and spread outty. Will this only be available through Amazon? Bookstores too right? I’m going to tell my manager to order this for our store. If he asks why, I’ll explain your popularity and that your book will induce your fans to buy more of the stores romance novels. Money for everyone! I love you guys, you’re like my very own friends. Thanks for such a fun site.

Kelli, I’ll say what others have been too polite to say.
You’re an idiot.
I bet I know more authors, editors and publishers than you do. Oddly, none I know blame Sarah or anyone else who posts here for Cassie Edwards’ career troubles, and certainly no one with even a few grains of sense inside the tiniest of brains blames anyone for Ms. Edwards’ stroke.
Your attitude is sad; your accusations and threats are vile.
That makes you a sad, vile idiot.
Lurking on the blog of someone you obviously dislike intensely makes you pathetic.
I think that covers it.

I’m not a big fan of that cover, though I don’t even care cause I can’t wait to get my grubby hands on it anyway! I think that I don’t like it is because I was hoping for some real eye-burning bad clinch snark for the ironic lulz. Ah well, perhaps I’ll just paste a Cassie Edwards cover over it. ;D

I didn’t want to point this out until I checked on it, but the plural of zero should be zeroes (with an e), at least according to this. Maybe it’s too late to change and maybe it really doesn’t matter that much. Hell, maybe there are alternate ways to pluralize zero for all I know, but I thought you might want to know.

I love retro covers, this one reminds me of the old Harlequins—so yes, I love this cover. Kudos on the book, I’ll be waiting for it… oh, and on the Roberts blurb **2 thumbs up**
The finding the phally game? I see it in the girls leg, back of the knee and back of the thigh… all done with shading and paint. That’s my take on it, lol!
CONGRATULATIONS!

I give. Everything is phallic in that cover. Which makes it fantastic, and a 100% purchase for me. Wish it came out before Christmas, it would make an awesome stocking stuffer.
Can I ask a wee question? Why is it funny that she’s a redhead? Were redhead covers overwhelmingly popular at some point?
(Spam word: sound18. Is this going to be made into an audio book at some point? Any plans?)

Cover - fab cover, I just want to know if the chick is pulling down her skirt or pulling it UP. :)
Kelli - oh for heaven’s sake. A stoke is not caused by one traumatic incident - its usually caused by a blood clot or a lifetime of high blood pressure.
Blaming the SB’s for her illness makes as much sense as blaming her readers - all that pressure to produce more books could cause more potential damage than a public spanking.
My verify word is length89…wow, the hero is THAT BIG?

~but the plural of zero should be zeroes (with an e), at least according to this. ~
Actually, the plural is correct either way. Personally, if I’m pluralizing zero the noun, I do zeroes. The verb, I leave off the ‘e’.
I have no idea why.

I think the cover is perfect. Charming, retro, not embarrassing to read in public, and a perfect conversation starter. The bottom part of the candlestick, just above the base. Little stubby stiffy. Cute, actually.

To: J.C. Wilder, I’m glad you have a degree in medicine. She didn’t have a blood clot or a history of high blood pressure. She hadn’t been sick at all.
Ask Sarah what was said to her at the Historical Research seminar by Bertrice Small at RT last year when she mentioned Cassie to her.
To: Nora Roberts, I would rather be an idiot than a complete stuck up, snobby asshole. I have met a lot of authors and I have to say you take the prize in being a snob. Your lack of personality comes out a little too strong.

And by the way if everyone thinks Mrs. Edwards did something wrong why are they still publishing her books and have started reprinting her old ones?

Kelli -
Well, the Gor books are still available in print, as are many RL Stine and Christopher Pike books, as well as the rather…suspect-in-originality works of a certain Ms. Clare…therefore, being a published author is not necessarily a certification of quality work.
Furtehrmore, Nora Roberts has more class at the tip of her pinky than you - a lurker, a troll and a general all-round bonehead - coudl ever hope to muster.
Strokes sometimes have utterly no prior warning; indeed much of the time they seem to come out of the blue. it might do you well to crack a book or peruse wikipedia, at the very least, before yu run amok bleating that the evil witchy bad-nasty-wrong jive-turkey voodoo’ majickz of this board’s ~*negative energy vibes!*~ caused an elderly woman to have a stroke.
At seventy, her age puts her in the risk category. It’s that simple; the human body runs down and has issues when it ages. We did not voodoo-curse her by discussing her plagiarism (and colonialist, prejudiced attitudes toward native americans/aboriginal people); indeed she’s lucky she pulled the scam off for as long as she did.
In this age of the interpipes and the myriad communities thereupon, it’s hard to get away with being foolish.
Case in point: Ms. Edwards, and you.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stroke a resource, for your benefit.
