Links to Sales and Hilariousness

Unraveled, the finale of Milan's trilogy, has a woman in a green dress with her hand on her hip.

Courtney Milan's “Unraveled,” better known as Smite's Story, is on sale now. Unveiled and Unclaimed were both book club selections, and so many readers were clamoring for Smite's story – I had to make sure you knew it was available. Otherwise someone might have smote me. [ AMZ | BN ]

Also on sale now for $1.99: Teresa Medeiros' Yours Until Dawn. [Kindle | BN & nook]

Via many people: Daniel Abraham's Private Letter from Genre to Mainstream – it is sharp and hilarious.

My favorite part: the reply letters in the comments.

From James L. comes this wonderful video about Steampunk, and what it is.

It's magical. You'll probably rock out in your chair.

Well, that video gave me my daily dose of happy.

So off to the book store I go. I’m only picking this up to find out what Smite is short for. Really, that’s it. Sure it’s got to be wonderfully written full of engaging characters & well a thought out story line (I’m thinking someone is… well the love that dare not speak it’s name…. don’t hold me to it, just the way my mind went after a preview…) it is Courtney Milan, after all, but I’m only in it for curiosity’s sake. Really. And that dog… No, just the name. I swear!

  5. Susan says:

I had a number of Willis’s and Milan’s books in my e-library already, but had to round out my collection of both.  (sigh)

The steampunk vid cheered me right up, tho.  Totally sums up 99% of the stuff tagged as steampunk on Etsy!

  6. LOL I saw a book at the library that basically just encouraged the “just glue some gears on it” thing. It was all jewelry and you still had to put in a lot more work then just gluing gears. Yet it didn’t seem like the gears were meant to do anything. All the stuff I’ve seen that’s suppose to be seriously steampunk even the just strictly decorative stuff on it looked like it was meant to move and DO something.

  7. Chantal H says:

Argh! Why is Unraveled not available for Kobo?

  8. Brian says:

You can use the ePub from ARe on your Kobo if you want (it’s at Smashwords too).  IIRC she said it would be on Kobo (and Sony & maybe Diesel?), but it would take longer before the listing showed up.

  9. Because Kobo takes FOREVER, and won’t let me upload directly. It goes through a middle man. It takes them weeks to post files. It’s SO frustrating.

  10. sharrynight says:

Grrr.. not available in e-format in australia..

  11. Rose says:

Have you tried getting it through Smashwords?

  12. Emilia says:

Ah, well, my cute shoes with the gears on them will have to back into the closet for a while. Perhaps an alternate sub-genre will arise- “Pseudo-Science Victorianites”, “Steam-Funk”, “The Just Glue Some Gears On It Gorilla Squad”- that will celebrate my fascination with the Sparkly and the Shiny. I adore clever whirligigging as much as the next gal, but I feel that some of the “lovely and creative, but without actual mechanical merit” aspects of Steampunk have been getting smirks and snide glances lately. I stand up for you, My Pretties!

God I love you guys.  The video was a great antidote to the Justin Beiber steampunk christmas video.  Glue a gear on it indeed.  So I immediately got Unraveled and started reading it yesterday.  I think it may be my favorite, CM, and that is saying something.  Many thanks!!!!

  14. Daniel Abraham is a very talented writer and his “Long Price” Quartet could easily slip out of Christian Louboutins and into Literature’s FiveFinger Shoes.

That video makes me happy in the brain-pan.

  16. Lana D says:

Truly magical and, in fact, i did rock out in my chair! Bloody Brilliant!

  17. Laura (in PA) says:

Immediately upon reading this, I clicked on the Unraveled link and bought it. I don’t even think I finished the post first. I’m blaming you if I end up in bankruptcy court.  🙂

  18. Katherine O'Grady says:

That steampunk video was all kinds of awesome! A pithy summary, in four part harmony!, of what makes steampunk steampunk.

  19. I couldn’t resist posting the video to Tumblr. I don’t think I’ve had so many reblogs so quickly since the first time I posted a Michael Crawford as Frank Spencer in Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em clip.

  20. ZarabethKnapp says:

I forgot Unraveled’s release date. I know! How on earth?!? I was reading Tuesday Links over at Dear Author, and didn’t even read to the end of the post when I saw Courtney Milan’s name. I think I even squealed when I realized it! Courtney Milan, I know you visit here, and I hope you feel the love!

I love the comment about stirring up an anthill with a literature stick.

And to James L.- thank you for making me giggle to the point of snorting!

  21. Sharrynight says:

LOL it (Smite’s real name) is waaayyy too long to post here- it is a whole bible passage. The story is good but I don’t think it is the best in the series. Milan is fantastic at characterisations like Loretta Chase is great at dialogue. The ending is OTT like the other book. But I thought it a good read regardless. I love Smite. He is still my favourite brother.

  22. Sharrynight says:

Good idea, I just had to wait a few more days. Finally bought it and already finished it ( yea I am a very fast reader). I enjoyed it. So I do recommend it to people who enjoyed the other books in the series.
