Big huge mazel tov to Barbara Vey, who will be published in "Chicken Soup for the Soul: Family Caregivers." Vey's story is about her role caring for her mom during her mom's terminal illness. If you've never heard Barbara speak about anything, go sit and ask her random questions because she's hilarious.

But if she talks about her mom, it'll make you teary, because her mom was one special lady - which is not a big surprise since Barbara is entirely awesome.

Congrats to Barbara on her upcoming publication!

Tired of vacation? Surely you jest. I'm back at work, & it is excrutiating!!! After a week away I had actually forgotten how frustrating this place is. eg:
"I left you three messages last week!!"
And in order to leave those messages, you had to listen to MY message saying I would not be in the office until today & to press zero for more immediate assitance.
I need to win the lottery. I've given up on the millionaire playboy prince.

On a higher note, I'm working through the the DVD collection of Rowan Atkinson's "Blackadder" series. OMG, what is it about British comedies? Endlessly, hysterically funny.
And I'm a third of the way into Joanna Bourne's newest "The Black Hawk". Which makes getting to the office even less desirable, when I could stay curled up in bed with Hawker.

Posted by Estara on 2012-01-05 13:20:33 I'm at work, but things have been pretty quiet and no one is really around to see what I'm doing. I was working my way through Anne Stuart's House of Rohan series, but I've gotten bogged down in the next to last one because I think the "hero" is a complete asshat. (I may just skip to the next one.) Also, I have a digital book from the library (I've got the latest Deanna Raybourn, The Dark Inquiry), but the first line of a short story popped into my head out of the blue the other day and, yesterday, I got the bare bones of the rest of it -- after a very long drought -- so I've been working on that.

I'm reading Staying at Daisy's by Jill Mansell and enjoying it - nice and light for the commute. I'm also continuing my Anne of Green Gables nostalgia tour - finished Anne's House of Dreams. Rainbow Valley is next on deck. But I really just want to read more Marjorie Liu and Linnea Sinclair. Soon.

Since Christmas I've read all of Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson novels, and the Alpha and Omega series, and I started looking for something else in a similar world/style. In between I have also managed to read the Alanna, the Lioness Rampant series by Tamora Pierce.

Posted by christian louboutin sale on 2012-01-04 20:47:09 The publishing lull of December should have sent me to my TBR pile, but although I reorganized it, and looked at all of it, nothing there rang my chimes, so I'm re-reading again. I re-read Survivor in death, and that sent me to The graveyard book (love that book!). The new Sherlock Holmes movie sent me to The pirate king and A study in Sherlock (short stories by some really excellent writers), and as a cross between The wizard of London and Sherlock Holmes, I really need to pry my copy of Lord Darcy away from the friend who has had for six(?) months. Then maybe there'll be some new stuff to look for.
Posted by roserita on 2012-01-04 17:15:37 I am back at work (sniff), which means less reading time. I seem to be in a phase of reading category romances, which go by very quickly. Have just finished the two most recent ones by India Grey, who is my new fave category author. I am going to start working my way through her backlist, which isn't very long, and looking forward to her next one, whenever it might appear. I am also reading Phury's book in the BDB series, but am having trouble getting through this one. I will come back to it, I think.

My Viking husband, however, went back to work yesterday, and I've quite suddenly decided that my vacation is boring. I actually can't wait to start the new term, as nerdy as that sounds. In the meantime, I'm trying to tear through a good chunk of my TBR stack, which is approaching perilous heights.

Posted by Phyl on 2012-01-04 14:12:31 I have five days before classes start up again for the last time ever (I mean it this time I really do) and I have a hot stone pedicure tomorrow and an anime binge on Saturday and quite a lot of stuff to read that is not school related. (And some stuff that *is* school related.)
