Jiggly Party!

by SB Sarah | June 20, 2007 | Wednesday at 2:31 pm | 19 Comments

One of the best parts of being the east coast Smart Bitch is that I open my email first. It’s 8am here, and the ass crack of down out by Candy (morning Candy!), so I am caffeinating and enjoying the round-up of links people sent me last night.

Shen Git sent over a video from the Best Week Ever’s recap of morning talk shows: Behold the jiggly mantitty.

That’s quite a threat right there - “BE SILENT! Or I will flap my man titty at you!” I’ve watched this dude about three times now, and I’m still amused.

I’m so ashamed of my jealousy! Why do I envy his quaking mantitty and dude-hip jiggles? Why, God, why?

“alone” is what I am, alone in my shame…

The man-titties aren’t the only thing that’s jigglin’!

New poster here - Love the site!

OY VEY!  This guy is a joke!

This is so bad in so many ways——This is awful! And insulting to the dance and the culture….not to mention the costume sucked.

There is nothing odd about a male Belly Dancer—- its a folk dance (the sleeze factor WE added)

    There are great dancers…
Tarik, Jim Boz, Tito, Aziz, John Compton, Horatio Fuentes…..
I’ve had workshops with Tarik Sultan (he’s a great dancer and a nice person)

And here’s Tito doing a kick butt drum solo with his nephew—- also in Cairo

    Note, no mantittie.
This should help you eyes clear. :)

He did stomach rolls that consisted of, er, rolling his stomach—-sucking it in,  then bulging it out. Ack.

Female dancers do the same, but the boobs make it less creepy. :-)

I know it’s because I’m so accustomed to seeing women doing belly dance (and not men), but that was vaguely effeminate. Not that it bothered me unduly, I actually found it rather…stimulating. Quite surprising (and I’m in awe of their flexibility.) I never realized what a total and complete creature of my culture I am!

He’s clear from the Thunder from Down Under school of belly dancing.

I never realized what a total and complete creature of my culture I am!

I was the same way—- I actually started because I loved the costumes!!!  But over the years, I got more teaching and dance education plus experience—- and I made some pretty wonderful friends along the way.  The biggest thing to realize is that most of what western culture thinks is belly dance has been influenced strongly by OUR culture and OUR views of the body, sex, etc…...so its OUR dance that’s the sexy girl in the skimpy pimpy costume wiggling and seducing.

It’s hard to fathom that it’s about giving the music a visual and emotional component and that moving all your body is acceptable dance.  It’s not about sex, it’s about the music!

Over there, you do it from birth to death, at 1 pound or 1000 pounds, male or female.

As long as I’ve lived in the ME I’ve never seen a male belly dancer before so have nothing to compare this guy to. I did find the speed with which he could flip his pecs pretty impressive though!

That Tito vid was great, it wasn’t till half way through that I realised they were moving the drums, not their feet to turn around. That takes some skills.

Why do I think with hips like that his wife’s one happy lady?

Can’t say I rolled with the little cymbals on the first guy though, but he has a very nice way of moving thats for sure.

There’s a HQ romance in here somewhere.

Thank heavens I’m not writing it.

I dunno, Ms. Marshall. I think maybe you should!

A belly-dancing Floridian pirate? You could crack the market right open…

Oh, Ms. Dickson, now I’m going to have to go scrub my brain…

    Although….

No, I’m going to resist temptation!  I’ll even resist the temptation to have one of my gay pirates who’s sailed the Mediterranean teach the heroine how to belly dance while he wears white harem pants and a cheesy headdress…

Aarrgh!  Now I can’t get it out of my head!

My mum and I both take belly dance classes, and we’ve only ever seen one guy in them. He was damn good, though.

Mr. Mantitty above had some pretty good shimmies, but if he was trying snake-arms he didn’t do so well. His selling point seems to be the fact that he’s a vibrating shirtless man.

That was freaking impressive.  It’s amazing how well he isolates the motion of different parts of his body.  His head stays perfectly stationary while his hips are just…woah!

At the same time, it does seem slightly odd to have a man do that much hip-jiggling.  I’m betting it’s probably a cultural thing on my part.

Okay, the guy on the today show - not so great. Didn’t even want to watch it a second time. The rest - wonderful! Thanks Najida, the little girl was wonderful. Guess I’ll be spending some quality time on Youtube watching some belly dance vids.

The costume was silly and the choreograpy was pretty bad, but like Jepad I’m impressed with the way he isolates the movements. Something I’ve always sucked at.

O.k. I’m not afraid to admit it—I found the moves of the luscious man in Nadija’s vid-clips to be HAWT!  I mean, srsly…a man who can move like that in public has to be able to do some serious moving in private.  Mrowr, I say!

Then again, I’ve always been a sucker for men who do more while dancing than raise their arms in the air and wave them around like they’ve knocked down a hornets nest and are being attacked by the entire swarm.  Or worst of all - standing in the middle of the floor and letting some poor woman jiggle around him like he’s in a 50 Cent video (the hooorrorr!). That’s why I always have the most trouble preserving my already questionable virtue in Latin dance clubs…some of those men can move in way that makes me think and do nothing but naughty, naughty things.  And I love it!

“lay42,” eh?  Do you ladies know me, or what…

Has anyone read Beth’s rather hilarious Bellyboy movie preview?

    ‘Cause seriously. Comedy gold.
