Hot on the heels of the last Aussie convention comes the Australian Romance Readers Convention, or the ARRC. I so want to go you have no idea, but alas, Australia Fair is on the other side of the planet.

All the cool Aussie authors will be there, including Anna Campbell, Bronwyn Parry, and That Devil Cynster - sorry, Stephanie Laurens. The panel titles are a hoot too: The Aussie voice: Why the whole world loves our accent would totally be on my list.

Hope it’s awesome, folks.

    *bounce bounce*

Something close to home. OK, I still have to cross the Tasman Sea, but considering I live at the back end of beyond (according to some) a trip across the water isn’t too much to ask. Although…I’m still saving for the RWA :)

Hah, now you have to remember that the whole world EXCEPT NEW ZEALAND loves the Aussie accent.  The fact that it’s 90% identical is entirely beside the point!

Yo! Fiamme! What’s the difference between the Oz and Kiwi accents? Lexicon or manner of pronouncing? I mean, my experience with long-term exposure to Aussies comes from The Wiggles, and they only have 1 Kiwi on their DVD (Tim Finn from Split Enz) that I can tell.

The easiest way to tell is to get them to say something with an “i” in it.

    Kiwis? “Fush and chups”
    Aussies? “Feesh and cheeps”

When kiwis say “Six” everyone thinks we’re saying sex. Sometimes we really are saying sex, of course…

It’s all in the vowel sounds!  You can probably find Helen Clark or John Key really easily on YouTube right now as we have our national election coming up.  For which appropriately, my word is tax28!

Oh, it’s “Sux” for six. Sometimes I forget my own native tongue!  I used to ask for a pen, in the UK and people would say “Why would you want a pin?”  Le sigh!
