Have a Moment
by SB Sarah | July 05, 2009 | Sunday at 4:14 pm | 21 CommentsThanks to Barb Ferrer, here’s a link to Dominic West reading Pride and Prejudice.
No, no, don’t thank us - thank the coffee company running the advertisement. As Barb said, “I practically want to BATHE in this coffee if these guys will keep reading to me.”
Yes. Back to coffee drinking and listening, now.

Yum! And I don’t mean the coffee, although that looked pretty good too.

Oooooh, very nice! A rather cunning way to encourage people to take 6-10mins to drink their coffee!

Damn, I think Mr. West has successfully un-done all the damage my stodgy old philosophy professor did to the english accent. Gone with the imaginings of bow ties and chalk-covered corduroy!

Wow - coffee, Pride & Prejudice, and a gorgeous guy with an equally gorgeous English accent. Someone’s been peeking at my fantasies again. :)

McNutty!! I’m so used to him being American and saying “fuck” a lot on The Wire, but everyone who likes him all Britishy needs to watch the Kevin Kline “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” from a few years ago, also starring Christian Bale.

Oh, that was just lovely. A sexy man reading Jane Austen? I may faint!

Just a tad closer with that camera and I could have crawled right down his throat…..... um….wait…
That is to say, I love The Classics.
Yeah, that’s what I meant.

Not gonna lie the best part is when they ask me if I’m sitting comfortably. Then state that they’ll begin.
But not even the sweet looking Dan Stevens can make Charles Dickens interesting for me… :(

I’ll admit, that was the first time I ever found myself not wanting to smack Pip around. So yay, Dan Stevens. (I also ordered the BBC Sense & Sensibility just to see him portray Edward Ferrars. Oh… okay, and David Morrisey as Colonel Brandon.)
And while I did send the link to Sarah, I’ll confess to having found the link via Chicklet’s LJ. So yay, Chicklet, for having found it!

Yup, Jean, I kept expecting him to ask “what the fuck did I do?”

Sigh. So FIRST I had to watch the reading, and THEN I had to go play on YouTube to see a movie version of the same scene… and then I started at part I…
Now it’s three hours later. I hope you’re all happy!

If you like Dominic West being all Britishy, see if you can get hold of Channel 4’s The Devil’s Whore, where he plays Oliver Cromwell. A way younger, sexier and altogether much cooler Cromwell than history suggests, although still a reassuringly mad religious despot.
Plus it has John Simm. And Michael Fassbender. And belongs to possibly my favourite fashion period in history (no, not the Puritan republican bits, the bits either side. Obviously).

If only EVERY story could be read in a lovely lovely accent.
Now… to find The Telltale Heart read in an eerie accent and I’ll be set. And sleeping with the lights on.

Oh my. How very distracting. Sigh. Oh well, I’ll get something done another day.
