Thanks Sarah! Hmm, I downloaded today’s book and both the the Adobe things but I couldn’t get the file to open… anyone else experiencing this?

Same here. The PDF file doesn’t open and computer doesn’t recognize it.

Yup. I opened the Adobe File and it’s blank. Boo!

The other thing that popped up when I downloaded the pdf was a page wanting me to purchase some Adobe eReader. But that shouldn’t be necessary to view the file, right?

It’s an .etd file for some reason, even though I asked for adobe. I downloaded teh digital edition, but it won’t let me add the file. It only recognizes .pdf files. Am I missing something here?

Go back to the eharlequin website and redownload the book. That is what I did and it worked :)

Thank you, you gals! I wanted to make sure I got news of the free ebook offer and signed up to the eharlequin newsletters and everything, but no word from them, just from you.

To other commenters: the Adobe version is protected, and can only be opened, downloaded and read by Adobe Digital Editions (although I seem to recall .ebx as the file extension?). It confuzzled me last year, too…

If you want to read it on your Kindle, you’ll need the MobiPocket version, and you’ll need to re-encode it for your Kindle using your Kindle’s PID. Kindle files have to be keyed to your specific Kindle, basically.

There are (simple) tools for this task here, but you’ll need to install Python in order to run these:

I tried several times and it kept telling me they couldn’t download it at this time. Bummer. I had to add my Mobipocket IDs three times. It kept going back to the beginning login. Hey are you guys too popular? Are we overwhelming the site? Yeah, for ebooks, boo for technology glitches.

Yay for free ebooks! Boo for no support for Macs, or iPod Touch/iPhone platforms! I’m not going to read an ebook on my laptop (the PDF version), Mobipocket runs only on Palm and Windows (my iPod Touch has replaced my Palm), and Microsoft’s reader runs only on Microsoft platforms, natch. So much for giving H/S another try….

All I get is an ebx.etd file too. I downloaded Adobe Digital Editions but I still can’t open this file. I emailed support for help so we’ll see. Tried re-downloaded but I still get the same file.

I remember this happening last year but I can’t recall how to resolve it.

Okay, I figured that @#$%& thing out. I downloaded Adobe Digital Editions, then opened it. Then I went to the ebx.etd file on my desktop and right clicked on it. Then I chose “open with” and one of my options was “digitaleditions1X5”. I selected that one then it proceeded to open the ebook. Geez that only took me an hour to figure out. I hate DRM.

For anyone having problems with the PDF, choose “Open with Adobe Reader” rather than “Save as” when clicking the download link. It should then do everything for you - or at least, it did for me. It seems to save it to the My Documents\My Digital Editions\ folder if you need to find the file again.

I tried to order the PDF version, but the site gave me an error when I tried to check out. I e-mailed customer service, but they’re giving me the runaround.

I can’t get the Reader version to download because their system doesn’t think I have the Reader, which I do. Go figure.

If your system doesn’t think you have Reader… are you using Firefox? I tried with that and was getting the same error, but when I pulled up IE it worked just fine.

Also, warning to those who found the joys of Adobe Digital Editions: If you are the type who regularly cleans up your computer (for example: using CCleaner), it can and will erase it Digital Editions every single time. >:| It apparently saves as a temp file. If you like the book enough for a re-read, you’ll have to go back and redownload Digital Editions after cleaning up your computer. It’s such a pain in the ass that I will never again buy a protected ebook and use the Adobe option.

Thank you. I was able to download and view the file successfully without doing anything special to it. I just clicked to downland the file which was indeed a ebx.etd file but the book automatically loaded itself up on Adobe with no problem. I have Adobe Reader 6.0 if that would help anyone. Awhile back when dl another ebook, I had to uninstall the latest version of Adobe and reinstall 6.0 version to open the ebooks correctly.

Vicki, I can’t checkout either. The site must have lots of traffic.
On a side note, the homepage of eHarlequin says there is free shipping on all orders of print books until Dec 31. Maybe now would be a good time to pick up a comtemporary…I just bought Lori Borrill’s Unleashed.
