Happy 2nd Anniversary, Bitches!

In honor of this occasion, I’d like to invite you, the Bitchery, to reminisce on Awesome Bitchfights Past. They don’t have to have taken place on this blog; in fact, most of my favorites of the past several years took place on AAR. Like this kerfuffle about sex scenes (man, back then, I was excruciatingly polite to so many people I just wanted to rip into—but then I didn’t want to be banned from the boards). And then there was the Robin Lee Hatcher interview that became this Huge Thing about religion and ROMANCE = OMGCRACK. And then there was the RWA cover and website standards thing. And the defining romance dust-up, with attendant flapping and fussing about OH NOES WHERE ARE OUR STANDARDS? And the 2005 RWA Rita awards trainwreck. And then Jan Butler. Oh lordy, the Jan Butler.
A big round of squishy hugs to you, my lovelies. We couldn’t have snipped and sniped without you. And special props to Sarah, the Smartest Bitch, who is Made of Awesome, and the best writing/blogging partner a girl could wish for. We made it for the second year, baby. Woo!

And the RWA awards kerfuffle? Wasn’t nearly interesting enough in person. Painful, but not interesting.

Two years! Hard to believe, and we’ve enjoyed every minute of it.
Favorite slapfests? For me it’s a toss-up between Jan Butler and the 2005 RWA Rita Awards train wreck. You can’t make up stuff like that.

Congrats Sarah and Candy, and to all the bitchery!! This would be a lovely time for those going straight to hell t-shirts, and party hats… I’m gonna have to say that the Jan Butler kerfuffle was the one that raised my blood pressure the highest. Nothing beats a good bitchfight, sigh.

I’m new to the bitchery here, but I’m with Victoria who hits refresh too many times a day….
My favorite bitchfests…I love it when Dear Author tries to stick it to publishers for publishing romances without happy endings. That cracks me up. Sometimes Nora Roberts even weighs in. Only funnier. I shouldn’t be so amused since I wrote with the publisher the Janes love to hate, but its funny anyway. Besides I write HEAs.
Another favorite? Okay, this is so trite, but too funny for words: Trump vs. O’ Donnel. That IS funny.

Whoo! Two years! Part of me says “Only two years?” and part of me says, “Holy crap, I started reading SBTB HOW long ago?”
Time is weird on the internet.
My favorite kerfluffle is the Jan Butler thing. Never did I see the words “fuckwittery” and “asstard” repeated in more blogs for the same reason. And Candy’s response to JB’s “Don’t censor meeeeeee!” idiocy was one of the best elucidations of “You’re not just a bigot, you’re also stupid” I’ve ever read.

I personally like what I get OUT of the kerfluffles: Food for thought, and often a new perspective on the romance business in general, and my business in particular. I make notes on some of the points made, and consider them when I’m doing things like, oh, commissioning cover art.
I consider this site not only great bitchery and a good place to express your views, but a writing/publishing resource.

Oof. I left to go on vacation in the middle of the second round of the Jan Butler Experience came down, so I had forgotten about it completely..
