Friday Videos Want That Shirt

by SB Sarah | by SB Sarah | September 24, 2010 | Friday at 10:53 am | 27 Comments

From Merry, a video that, as she says, “speaks for itself.” It started speaking to me, loudly, at about 0:18 in.

Where can I buy that shirt? Seriously?!

Have a operatically titty-licious weekend, vinyl or otherwise!

The muscle-shirt is nice . . . but I really want his boots!

I love opera, especially when it goes all-out, like this. I’d really like to see this one! This isn’t the craziest I’ve seen, but it certainly looks like the best fun!

Did I miss that list that was to be posted yesterday to vote on book premises? Where was it?

“Elizabethan Shakespearean vastness” is right. Everything is—er—vast—in this video. Thanks. I think.

  5. SB Sarah said on 09.24.10 at 02:34 PM[link]

Yes. Oh so true Jessica. Vast. HUUUUUUUGE tracts of land!

Muscles shirt, boots, AND a dancing baby—that’ll wake ya up!
For some reason, Hercules reminded me of an old skool cover…just can’t remember which one.  Need more coffee and some time to investigate.

I kind of liked the blue outfit; and who doesn’t love an Egyptian mummy?

captcha: cut22; did they cut 22 scenes?

I bet Shakespeare just rolled over in his grave!

Yikes. This gives new meaning to the phrase “hot mess.” It’s like an acid trip w/o ingesting any harmful substances. I think I’d rather stay home and read.

  12. Keri Ford said on 09.24.10 at 04:36 PM[link]

Huh. My teachers never mentioned Hercules was fond of platform boots.

I feel cheated on my education.

  13. Jason said on 09.24.10 at 05:00 PM[link]

I like the huge dancing baby!

  14. Madd said on 09.24.10 at 05:25 PM[link]

Herman Munster is going to be seriously peeved that someone else is rockin’ those platform boots.

Oh man that supersized man titty armor there is awesome! Are his britches too big for his golden underthing or is he just needing to contain himself better with all those underwear fixes. Great one.

Sarah, coming in 02???? Post is going to be here to vote? On the blog?

    Thanks.

Ok, that just looked like someone mixed an Elizabethan opera with a bunch of their kids action figures (and one babydoll) up on a stage….

students34 - 34 students watched this and went HUH?

This is awesome… my cousin, Constance Hoffman, did the costume design for this opera. I am, of course, biased but love that it made it here to Smart Bitches. The shirt is pretty damn awesome though.

Mozart’s operas always very strongly reminded me of Shakespeare’s plays - though the operas were a good 2-3 centuries after the bard. This, not so much for me, though maybe I’d need to see it… maybe not. A little too trippy for me - it more reminds me of the bizarre expressionist stuff by Berg. Wozzeck, particularly. *Shudder* At least this music isn’t atonal.

jocelynnesimone: props to your cousin though. Looks like the costume design was hard to pull off - not that I know anything about it, but anyone who puts man titty in gigantic boots with hints of 18th century looking costumes set among neon colors has to have a serious vision. Or put up with and work around someone else’s serious vision. Difficult in either case.

Luca Pisaroni plays the titty-licious Herculean character. I met him in Chicago last year…though instead of, er, enhanced muscles, he wore a very slimming tux. :P

I now have to order this opera off Amazon. (For a similarly awesome opera with a much more subtle humor, you should see him in “Cosi fan tutte” from Glyndebourne’s 2006 season; Pisaroni is a fabulous young talent.)

I am very proud of her, of course.  In my opinion, she has done a lot of great work and she has made a very successful career doing something she loves.  How could I not be proud? =) She’s been designing for years and years, ever since I was a teenager imagining a life in the arts.  For those interested, you can find more images of her work—not all of which is like this opera—at her website.

I SO heart the guy with glasses at about 1’ 26”.  This is fab-OH.
    Thank you, Sarah.

Major cognitive dissonance happening with listening to the commentary and watching what is happening on stage.  Somebody was having a lot of fun with this.

My first thought was Lord Rochester, what with that big penis at the beginning. Probably, Rochester would have enjoyed this opera.

feel82: why yes, I did have 82 different feelings watching this clip. How did you know?
