Friday Videos Promote Breast Cancer Awareness

by SB Sarah | December 04, 2009 | Friday at 5:44 pm | 19 Comments

Tina C. sent me this video: “Medline, a hospital supply company, is selling pink gloves.  A portion of the sales goes to breast cancer research.  Providence St. Vincent Medical Center (I think they are a cancer treatment hospital, but I’m not sure), in Portland, OR, put together this video to promote breast cancer awareness.”

OMG! OMG! That’s Providence Hospital!  Whoot, Whoot!  My Mom used to work there as a nurse back when it was run by the Sisters of Providence (it was just Providence Hospital then, guess they picked up St. Vincent somewhere since then).  I believe it’s still a full hospital not just a cancer center and looks like it’s still a great place to work!  How fun!

Terrific. They look like they’re having so much fun.

I worked at Providence St. Vincent’s as a temp, in their Medical Imaging department.  They do cancer treatment, but they’re best known for their Heart Institute. The cardiac care unit is the tops in the Northwest.

And in an weird case of serendipity, just yesterday I wrote a scene in which my hero tells the heroine that their meeting is providence. It’s not a word I use often, so it’s interesting this vid shows up today.

Wonderful video!  My very dearest friend, who died after struggling with breast cancer for seven years, matched at Providence St. Vincent when she was a bright eyed resident fresh out of medical school.  She ended up someplace else, but they were high on her list so it warms me to see their staff doing something fun and supportive for the breast cancer cause.

And on a TOTALLY unrelated note, is anyone else giggling all the way down to their toes at the DreamSpinner press advertisement at the right of the blog?  Evidently Mr. Mistletoe is offering up his nethers (conveniently wrapped in christmas underoos) as a present to the other dude. Or is he suppose to kiss what closest to him?  The pan out just adds to the awesome.

I love love love that they include ALL the ranks of the hospital staff, from the drs and nurses to the lab techs to the administrators to the janitorial staff to the kitchen staff (and I think, even some delivery service people)!

It’s a shout out to ALL the people who work in the healthcare system, not just the rock-star surgeons. Great video, wonderful awareness campaign.

    Woot!

The dancing older janitor absolutely made my day.

My son was born at St. V’s, and a close friend of mine was treated at their new Breast Health Center (which is where this was filmed). Not only that, but four of the six clinics of the practice I work for are up at St. V’s, as is my kids’ pediatrician. They’re a great hospital, and this made me cry! Thanks for sharing!

My mom was an oncology nurse at that very Providence St. Vincent’s before she passed away…from cancer.

We laughed a lot before she died about how it should be impossible for oncology nurses to get cancer.

Providence St.Vincent’s has a caring and professional staff in all their departments—and a special thank you to the hospice staff, too.

Oh I’m late but please, please remember that men can get breast cancer too. Check your man, it’s fun and it might save his life.

LOVE!  That is all.  (written weepily—my sister in law was just treated for and pronounced breast cancer free).

My next door neighbor passed away from breast cancer this past February.  She was 46.  The first time she had it she was cured.  She even passed the 5 year mark.  Then almost 8 years to the day it came back next to her spine.  Then it went to the liver.  She fought it for 3 years.  She was on chemo 18 months straight.  Horrible.  Then she stopped everything three months before her death because they found it basically all over her body.  Her daughter is 22.  She got married in October and friends put a small framed photo of her mother on her wedding day in her bouquet.  November she had a baby.  A lot of sadness and a lot of happiness all in one year.
