   I saw this early this morning - so amazing. I love when the audience (and judges) are smirking and rolling their eyes, then he starts to sing.

   Every couple of years ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ features a a singer who is not much to look at,but WOW! when they start singing you are just blown away.  Check out Paul Potts back in 2007 who did opera and of course we all know about Susan Boyle. 
   Good luck to these kids, they deserve it.
   And yes, I cried—it was just so gorgeous.

    Holy wow. I think Simon may be right — she certainly didn’t come across as quite as good/powerful in this particular performance (I’m sure she could out-sing your average Joe, though) — but kudos to this shaking boy with the outstandingly beautiful voice to stand up in the face of that kind of praise and say, basically, “she’s with me.” Also, “Could this get any worse?” Simon is a douche. Not that that’s news. But still.

    I think those kids are amazing for having a passion and pursuing it, in a brutally hard field.  They sounded wonderful.  But I’m getting a little tired of these shows where plain, unattractive, or fat people come on, get mocked and scoffed at, and are immediately dismissed as a joke, and then blow people away with how good they are.

    How you look has NOTHING to do with what kind of talent or skill you may have.  Why is it always, always news?  Why is it always shocking that the ugly kid can paint like a motherfucker, or the fat kid can sing like an archangel?

    /rant

    Okay, maybe a little more rant.  I had a friend who had a stated preference for “ugly bands, because you know they have to be really good to be successful in spite of their looks.”

    I agree completely. I think I went on this same rant when Susan Boyle made such a splash. There wasn’t a single article that I saw that didn’t point out how “frumpy” while mentioning how amazing it was that she could sing like that. As if it was some sort of miracle that her unattractiveness didn’t keep her from being good at anything.

    Simon’s definitely that, but I still can’t help agreeing with him. She’s good, but she’s not as good as he is and she will hold him back.

    The kid, on the other hand, was a class act.
