Friday Videos Like Romantic But That’s Not It
by SB Sarah | by SB Sarah | February 10, 2012 | Friday at 12:20 am | 17 CommentsFor those of you who missed it, this is the latest issue of Bloomberg Business about the Continental/United merger:

Failblog was alllll over it.
But wait, there's a VIDEO. Where the folks behind the cover talk about how elegant and romantic it is. YES.
"It's artful! More romantic! We have a much more romantic story to tell."
Link? It's where the links fall in love, you know. Poor Marvin Gaye. I'm all for bawdy jokes and cheeky humor, but come on. Unless these two cracked up off camera after keeping a straight face through that explanation, that's just ridiculous.
I'm flying on Continental to Durham NC this weekend - I can't wait to wait for the plans to be cleaned before I can board.

That is hilarious. I can’t wait for my BusinessWeek tomorrow! Have fun in Durham. I went to college there. Go Duke! (I’m still on a high from the game yesterday).

They are clearly taking the piss (as we would say in England), and the guy who sits at 90 degrees for most of the video can be caught wiping a smile off his face in a couple of places.

At first I couldn’t figure out why they had the space shuttle and the plane that carried it on the cover. Then I realizaed it was on the commercial aviation tarmac and then that it wasn’t a shuttle. I actually saw that in the early 80s (the shuttle being carried by it’s 747 not planes in love). It’s been a long time for this airline mating dance.

I forgot you’re going to be here (squee! must figure out how to get to DPL!)
Being a loyal Continental flyer for years (Cleveland = home and = hub for Continental) I was worried about this merger…but it seems to actually be improving some things. And they’re keeping the CLE hub.

Insert tongue in cheek. These guys are having too much fun to be serious.

Romantic?? What are those guys smoking?

They have to have completely lost it as soon as they stopped filming. Anyone who can offer this up (with a straight face) as the Valentines edition… c’mon.
And if by some freak chance they’re serious - I’m sorry for whomever they’re involved with as if that’s their idea of romantic some serious training is required.

The cover is ... unexpected, but the video, I have to admit, makes a convincing explanation of their intentions, making it clear they went for snark and absurdity. Operating from the viewpoint of “there is no bad publicity,” they may have actually succeeded, especially in light of the earlier camel-merger cover from The Economist. This is strangely fascinating.

If they are serious - and I hope they’re not - this explains why it’s been made so freakin’ easy to order flowers. Guys like this need all the help they can get. I must agree with FairyKat - they are totally having us on. Or maybe just having us…

As a single gal, I would totally date that guy in the blue shirt. He seems adorable. I think they’re both cute. Yes I think it’s tongue in cheek but I like the deadpan approach. I’d take that magazine as long as it came with the cute guys.

So does this mean we’re going to see a bunch of new little Piper Cubs running around?

Does this mean that evacuation slides are really just giant yellow condoms? Safety first!

At least they were subtle… I mean they weren’t flying into a tunnel…

Well, someone qualified for the Mile-High Club!

Yeah, I think they need to get out more. I personally will volunteer to keep the guy in the black T-shirt company.
