Friday Videos Like Drummers in Kilts

Norwegian Friday Video Correspondent Gry sent this link over, and it's just neat:

That's Clanadonia, and I fully admit to being transfixed by the guy on the right.

Hope you have a thumping good weekend!

  1. Shal says:

i always thought that kilts would make men look feminine…boy was i wrong as clearly shown by d guy on the right!

  2. agoutigreen says:

I wandered past these guys at the Fringe a couple of years ago, and will admit to having wished in the intervening time that I had stopped and found out who they were. Thanks so much for the reminder!

  3. Maree says:

That was amazing. I was totally mesmerized! And yeah, that guy on the right… he’s got rhythm for sure *g*

  4. Tracy Faul says:

I love how into it they all are, but, yeah, guy on the right’s kilt has a hypnotizing sway… 😀

  5. Oh wow, that’s a whole lot of guys who look like my dad wearing kilts and beating on drums. They’re good but I may never look at a kilt the same way again.

  6. Germaine_sba says:

Great percussion and the kilts are cool, to be sure, but but scruffy guys with stringy hair just don’t do it for me…

  7. I submit for your consideration, along this same theme, Heavy Hammer!

I know one of these guys, I’ve seen ‘em play live, and I can assure you that they can damn well fill up a pub with the thunderous sound of BOOM. 😀 Clickie to their videos to see them in action!

  8. MissB2U says:

Ok. I just have to share this joke.  A lassie asked her laird what he wore under his kilt.  “Have a look” he says.  “Ach!” She cries.  “Gruesome!!!”  “Look again,” says he,  “…grew some more.”  Sophmoric, I know, but it still makes me chuckle.  Have a good weekend all.

  9. SarahS says:

If the guy in front isn’t Cohen the Barbarian, I’ll hand over my Pratchett collection…

  10. Emma says:

Add me to the list of fans of “the guy on the right.”

  11. Silver James says:

Oh I do love Men In Kilts(tm), especially when they can keep the rhythm. 😉

  12. Beth says:

You should check out Albannach, who tours regularly in the United States at Highland Festivals and Renaissance Faires.  http://www.albannachmusic.com.  Here are two videos I took a few years ago…

  13. Beth says:

The guys in Clanandonia used to be Clann an Drumma, along with the folks from Albannach, whom I mentioned above.  If you like Clanandonia, you’ll love Albannach.  Four drummers (including the badassest woman ever to rock a bass drum!) and a piper.  Tattoos galore.  Yummy guys.

  14. Cammy6 says:

That guy in front is totally Cohen the Barbarian.

  15. PamG says:

Ooooh… I’d say their hair guy trumps “guy on the right” any day!

  16. Rae A says:

So, funny story. I work at a music festival every year and a few years back we had Albannach on my stage (twice!). The guy they had travelling with them was a historian who’d give a little bit of Scottish history during set up and was showing off a beautiful two handed broadsword. He told the mothers to keep their children back while he demonstrated because he didn’t want to hurt them…but promised if any were accidentally killed, the guy on fife would help replace them.

this year we had a different group that was also drop dead gorgeous and fun. We usually get one or two because our festival is close in timing to the Scottish Games out in western NC.

  17. Beth says:

Rae—that was David R Ross, who sadly passed away suddenly 2 years ago.  That totally sounds like something he would say in reference to Jamesie—the man in the stills of the videos linked above.  🙂

    Which festival do you do?

  18. Todd says:

Heh, we have a local Scottish event every year and there are always questions about “what is worn under the kilt?” One year someone from the British Embassy replied, “Nothing is worn under the kilt; it’s all in perfect working order.”

  19. Jennifer Clink says:

OMG!  I have been trying to remember the name of this group for 2 YEARS!  Thank you!

  20. SB Sarah says:

Lordy, we do pretty much solve the “I can’t remember the name of that” mysteries around here, don’t we? Awesome. You’re welcome, Jennifer!
