Moreena sent me this link, which gave me chills:

Says Moreena: Lhasa De Sala, who died this month of breast cancer, wrote and performed one of the all-time great songs about love, of the burning passionate kind. In this video, she performs it (in Spanish), giving a French translation before she begins. The English translation (via www.senderando.com):

She sings so slow that I actually had to look at the lyrics in Spanish to understand a single word of what she was saying. Funny ... as Spanish happens to be my first language. I moved to the US 10 years ago, at age 37. For a moment I thought it was Portuguese.

Love the lyrics, love her voice. despised her diction and phrasing to the point that I had to turn the video off halfway. Like Mireya I had no idea what the lyrics were fro mthe performance. I would love to hear a cover of this by somebody else. Thanks for introducing me to her songwriting, though!

My friend Lenny who lives in Liege, Belgium is a HUGE fan of Lhasa’s and introduced her music to me a few years back. Her death was tragic in the way that all life ended too soon is. Thanks for sharing the video—it was beautiful.

The first time I heard Lhasa, I was in a restaurant with a friend from Spain. He assured me the singer wasn’t singing in Spanish! We asked the waitress and she showed us the CD. I bought it that week.

Her death was a tragic loss. Thank you for sharing the video with us.

I think with most of Lhasa’s songs, the lyrics really are secondary. The Living Road is a beautiful piece of art just for the aurally aesthetic values. I’ve listened to it dozens of times and couldn’t care less what the songs are about. Just the sound of her voice moves me.

What a loss. To die at 37…tragic.
