Oh, awesome! Love it - thanks for posting this! It’s that sort of day and I just found out my ex has a new girlfriend - I hate to be a horrific cliche but Mr Darcy & co are just what I need today. Well, either that or Godzilla-type city-destroying mayhem. =(

It’s edited so well to the music also!  =D

    Oh yays I love this!

Was waiting to see mr. darcy step out of the water and walk across the meadow at pemberly in the dripping shirt—best part of epi 4, though.

Yummy! And there were several that I have not seen so I am deeply grateful for the list of titles at the end. Working on one ... last ... paper, and then I think I’ll be blissing out with some videos as a reward for completed homework.
    Thank you!

  15. Kel said on 11.26.10 at 07:04 PM[link]

Silly yumminess was exactly what I needed this morning.  Especially with glimpses of Alan Rickman, Richard Armitage, and Benedict Cumberbatch in there.

  16. JamiSings said on 11.26.10 at 07:05 PM[link]

Dry or wet, I’d rather have Alan Rickman to a wet Colin Firth.

  17. bambbles said on 11.26.10 at 07:56 PM[link]

That was wonderful! Now I have a list of movies to watch!!

  18. ev said on 11.26.10 at 08:08 PM[link]

Mmm….Ioan Gruffudd, Alan Rickman and Colin Firth. I think I will be having a movie fest this weekend.

  19. Lyssa said on 11.26.10 at 08:19 PM[link]

Colin Firth, You had me at that..I mean in college we had it taped, and would watch Him walk up that hill soaking wet over and over. And he still looks yummy today!

  20. Karen H said on 11.26.10 at 08:30 PM[link]

Definitely thankful for a wet Colin Firth but sooo disappointed this didn’t include him walking out of the water all wet!  Maybe I missed it…maybe I’ll just have to watch it a few times more to make sure it’s not there!  But thanks (plus I have always loved that song)!

  21. Betsy said on 11.26.10 at 08:57 PM[link]

    Amazing!  Colin Firth is just…fantastic.

  22. Melissandre said on 11.26.10 at 09:22 PM[link]

Can we identify all the movies?  I saw Emma, Sense and Sensibility, both Pride and Prejudices, North and South, and what I assume is Amazing Grace (the Ioan Gruffud one).  What are the others?  Help a girl out!  The swordfighting one looks intense (and delicious).

  23. Suzanna Medeiros said on 11.26.10 at 09:59 PM[link]

I *love* this ... I’m also going to be sharing it everywhere. :)

  24. cayenne said on 11.26.10 at 10:03 PM[link]

@Melissandre - I think I noticed a list at the end of the piece, but as I had OD’d on man-candy, not 100% sure.  I know I saw Richard Armitage, and in addition to the list you have, I’m pretty sure there was the other P&P, Northanger Abbey, and - thrilling to me - Shadow of the North.  I’m not sure what else, though.

  25. Broke Baroque said on 11.26.10 at 10:04 PM[link]

@Melissandre: From the YouTube info of clips in the video:

    Amazing Grace 2006
    Casanova 2005
    Emma 1996
    NorthAnger Abbey 2007
    North & South 2004
    Persuasion 2007
    Pride & Prejudice 1995, 2005
    Sense & Sensibility 1996, 2008
The Shadow in the North 2007
    Wives & Daughters 1999

  26. Broke Baroque said on 11.26.10 at 10:05 PM[link]

Damn, I forgot to mention—the sword fight is from the 2008 version of Sense and Sensibility, I’m pretty sure.  :)

  27. Ros said on 11.26.10 at 10:06 PM[link]

    Yes, there’s a list:

    Amazing Grace
    Casanova
    Northanger Abbey
    Sense and Sensibility
    Pride and Prejudice (x2)
    Wives and Daughters
    North and South
    The Shadow in the North
    Emma

Personally, I wish that Wet Colin Firth hadn’t happened.  Though I did absolutely love the parody of it in Lost in Austen.

Help!  Which film had the desert scenes?  I can’t place it and I thought I had seen all of these movies.

  32. Lisa said on 11.26.10 at 10:45 PM[link]

    Mmmm - so thankful…

  33. Janet Mullany said on 11.26.10 at 11:58 PM[link]

The desert scene was from Wives & Daughters, the best Gaskell adaptation ever. Lovely editing, but nothing in my mind beats this version of “It’s Raining Men:”

Ok, the scene at 1:01 where the guy on horseback rushes downhill to help the damsel who just tripped down it?  I didn’t recognize that one and couldn’t see who was playing our yummy rescuer.

  38. Judy said on 11.27.10 at 02:53 AM[link]

Colin Firth.  And Ioan Gruffudd.  And Alan Rickman.  Be still my heart….

  39. Sycorax said on 11.27.10 at 03:21 AM[link]

    Awesome.

I finished rewatching the BBC adaptation of Our Mutual Friend last night and there are men in river and rain shots from that. Mmmm, Mortimer Lightwood…

I’m glad they included North and South and the marvelous image of cotton fluff hanging in the air. I love that miniseries as much as the Pand P one, which is saying something.

  40. MichelleKCanada said on 11.27.10 at 03:26 AM[link]

    Just thank you. Thank you..

  41. Cristiane Young said on 11.27.10 at 03:28 AM[link]

Cammy, I believe that’s from the Emma Thompson Sense and Sensibility, and the rescuer is the gorgeous Mr. Emma Thompson, Greg Wise.

“remember25” - not very clearly, these days.

  42. fifi trixibelle said on 11.27.10 at 03:50 AM[link]

How could they miss out Sean Bean as “Sharpe” bathing stripped to the waist and bathing in a stream…

  43. HoneyBearKelly said on 11.27.10 at 04:18 AM[link]

Rupert Penry-Jones is just stunning. And Richard Armitage made me forget Colin Firth. North & South is available on Netflix watch instantly thingie. Watch it and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

  44. oldbitey said on 11.27.10 at 04:30 AM[link]

I’m so over to Netflix to add to my queue.

  48. JamiSings said on 11.27.10 at 07:09 PM[link]

I wonder if Alan Rickman is even aware of what a sex symbol he is.

Holy moley…Yeah.  No wonder I love reading Regencies.  All the pretty, pretty men with their awesome clothes.  Now if only men STILL dressed like that and women weren’t stuck with the dresses and corsets.  Heh.

  52. HelenMac said on 11.28.10 at 12:55 AM[link]

@fifi trixibelle : agreed! Sean Bean as Sharpe is a glaring omission.

@HoneyBearKelly : oh thank goodness! I was scrolling through the comments, wondering why no-one had commented on the loveliness that is Mr Penry Jones.

    @oldbitey : oh, Toby Stephens…*siiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh*

  53. oogame said on 11.28.10 at 02:25 AM[link]

Chiming in on the Toby Stephens side.  The scene in the recent JE when he and Ruth Wilson come in out of the rain and kiss…oh MY.  And Toby in general, of course.

Also yay to anything involving Sean Bean with his shirt off.

(Just realized this may be my first post…can’t remember.  Been reading for a few months.  LOVE this site. :))

Regency fashion didn’t call for the torture of a boned corset. Here’s a site that discusses Regency era topic, including underwear.

A Look at Regency Underwear (from http://tinyurl.com/ylowo4a )

Fashionable young ladies of the Regency were fortunate to escape one constriction that had haunted the lives of their mothers and would later fall to their daughters and granddaughters: The Boned Corset. Where both the Georgian and Victorian sillouette called for unnaturally small waists and straight backs, designers during the Regency were captivated by the “natural Female form.” Drawing inspiration from classic greek and roman statuary (all things ancient Greece were the rage at this time) they allowed for column dresses with minimal flouncing. Where once layers of hoops and petticoats reined, now almost modern dress shape took over. Waists were raised to just under the bosom while skirts hung free.

each46 - each woman could dress herself without 46 maids to lace her into her clothing

Holy yum.  First…“It’s Raining Men” is my disco jam, 100%.  It played at a male strip club one time and I absolutely freaked out!  I spent the most money during that song.

Second…I will so be watching every single one of those movies when I have the end of next week off from work.

  58. Trippinoutmysoul said on 11.28.10 at 05:48 AM[link]

EVERY TIME I read the words “wet period drama” I see “wet period dream” instead….good grief.

south87- I was born in the South, in ‘87!

  59. Kristin said on 11.28.10 at 07:37 AM[link]

Absolutely FABULOUS…the only thing that would have made it better would have been having the original Weather Girls singing it.

  60. JamiSings said on 11.28.10 at 08:00 AM[link]

BTW - That version of It’s Raining Men - is it the original or one of the covers? Because I was thinking of buying it on iTunes but the one there that’s suppose to be the original has some speaking in it where this one seems to be 100% singing. I’d rather have the version from this video.

This is the only thing that comforts me, my Pokes just lost to OU, 47-41.

I might need to watch it a few more times, just for comfort’s sake.

There’s going to be a, probably, dry Colin Firth on CBS Sunday Morning today.

  63. Kirstin said on 11.29.10 at 06:27 PM[link]

Hi!  I think I’ve seen all these movies - except for the Ioan Gruffudd film.  Which one was that?  Must rectify this situation!
