Friday Videos Are Dancing, and Bashfully Egomaniacal

And… the evolution of dance turned into a wedding first dance-off. By the time they got to the Sugar Hill Gang I was crying.
And thanks to Morgan Doremus, here’s an outtake of some footage that she’s not using for her most recent video project regarding RT.

My husband and I did something similar at our wedding 15 years ago.
That was when we still had records (gasp!) easily available, and my hubby and his friend recorded “Don’t Cry Out Loud” from the record, and just as the first swell of the chorus began, they dragged the needle across the record (still recording it)...and then there was silence.
We’d had it all set up with the deejay—he started the song, we got up there and started to dance the same old boring first-dance to a really sappy song. Then it suddenly scratched and stopped, and everyone just froze. (It’s really funny to watch on the video.) They’re all staring, eyes wide open, mouths gaping—all conversation that usually goes on during the first dance ceased.
And then Music Man and I slipped into a choreographed tango. (Not that we were good enough to be on Dancing with the Stars, but it was a lot better than swaying side to side to Don’t Cry Out Loud or Lady in Red or whatever.)
So I think it’s a trend we started back in 1994. ;-)

I guess none of you folks watch tv. There is/was a show on TLC called “Rock the Reception” which featured couples who didn’t want to do the same ole, same ole first dance. So, with the help of professional choreographers, they put together the oh-so UN-traditional first dance.
Obviously, the DJ was in on it as were some, but not necessairly all, of the bridal party.

Okay. The second couple had me at “Kung Fu Fighting.” LOL And big guys CAN dance. Just look at Warren Sapp on Dancing with the Stars. He’s the only reason I tune in!

The first couple was really cute, I loved the beginning where he bows to her but it was their robot that got me.
The big guy in the 2nd video looks a lot like my sister’s fiance. I may send this to her as a subtle hint. You’ve got to give credit to those brides too, dancing around in what had to be really uncomfortable undergarments, strapless dresses, high heels and veils—I salute you.

This show makes me shudder. Though I’ve only watched it twice, both times I thought the presence of reality show cameras turned perfectly nice people into fifteen-minute-seeking famewhores.

Oh, we were not cool enough to think of this when we got married back in 1995. I wish we had. The best we did was when they pronounced us man and wife we had the Star Wars theme play. It was awesome to see the faces of our family and friends when they realized what song it was and how big of nerds we really are. And yes, my son is named Luke, not after the Bible, so the tradition continues.

I had honestly never seen this before… until my sister and her husband did it at their reception last August. They did more the “choreography together” thing from video 1. It was great. : )
It also helped that it totally reflected their relationship and their personality. She also put “Bummer Dude” on the response cards as the “we can’t come” option. I love my sister.

I blame you for the fact that I’ve spent my daughter’s nap not doing laundry as I desperately need to, but watching wedding surprise dance videos.
What I’d really love to see would be a sappy couple dance transform into a full on Bollywood dance scene.
I never had a whole big wedding thing, but the man saw a Star Wars themed wedding and he and his fellow tech geeks at work thought it was the most awesome thing. They all refused to believe him when he said that I’d be all for it until they sat at a table with me during a company Christmas party and they started discussing sci-fi and I was right there in the middle of it.

The first video was amusing but I really liked the 2nd one better. When they started dancing together was when I really started cracking up. If I was going to do the traditional first dance at my wedding, I’d want to do something interesting like that.

Very funny! I have to admit i was cringing when I saw the first couple start their dance - hey, that’s a Viennese Walz! WHY are they about a meter apart? Full body contact!!! That’s what you need (and no it’s not a boring dance - plus the Blue Danube Walz is one of the longest there is, so it takes stamina too)... anyway, after I got this off my chest - I really liked the part when the music changed. They looked so much more comfortable once they were not pretending to be walzing! Much happier too… the same for the second couple. I totlally got why they fell for each other - there is real chemistry between those two couples. As long as they are not walzing, that is…

Video 2 got me at the Oompa-loompas. OMG. My late son-in-law lost his leg just below the knee to diabetes. He used to entertain the kids doing the oompa-loompa dance (along with music too0 with that stump. (OK, he called it Stumpy).
We have a very sick family with a sick sense of humor.
I have 2 left feet and could never do that if I tried.
