Samhain is offering another free Kindle ebook - Perfecting Amanda by Bonnie Dee.
Seriously, I love the free Kindle books. I know it’s device exclusive and probably pisses the hell out of people who
don’t have Kindles
haven’t had a good gulp of the Kindle-Ade, but I have to say, click-click try a new author? Verrrry seductive. Well played, Samhain.
And by the way, do you get prank calls for people looking for Mr. Sam Hain? Next time I know you’re at a conference, I’m so paging Mr. Sam Hain to the lobby.

I’m just curious how interesting the spellings get when people try to spell it using the ‘technical’ pronunciation.

This is almost enough to tempt me to buy a Kindle. . . but then I’m already going blind because I use the computer so excessively, so maybe getting a device to provide more screen time would be a bad idea.
Because I’m curious though, of the free Kindle books, how much actually turn out to be worth the read?

LOL! They’ll be onto you and your awesome prank because it’s pronounced
differently than it’s spelled (sounds like ‘so-wane’), but it would give me a giggle to
hear someone’s looking for Mr. Sam Hain. But the desk clerk might not get
the joke. Hmmm….what to do what to do? Support the madness and
revel in the levity or recommend restraint????

Even the cover looks lovely and old-fashioned in an enchanting way. In case the story similars to it, we would love it.

There are actually many, many pronunciations and most Celtic purists seem to say it “sow-in” but we do indeed say it “sam-hane” which is considered the English pronunciation.
If you wonder why we use “sam-hane”, Google these terms:
sowin publishing
sowan publishing
samhane publishing
People think phonetically, and practically speaking, if we want them to find the publisher, we need to say it in a way that’s going to get them there. Doesn’t do us much good to speak about a publisher no one can find!
And, no, I don’t know why such a hard-to-pronounce name was chosen but some days I do wonder if it’s too late to change!

Thanks, I one-clicked it just to see. I have positive Bonnie Dee vibes for some reason—or maybe I am thinking about a Rabbie Burns poem—is there one set on the Banks o’ the bonnie Dee?
The free Tor books were very good and I even read the free Finance one from Oprah. But I passed on the relationship one she offered.
I’ve been inspired to buy a few extra ebooks by freebies and have plans to buy a few more when they are published.

I get the FREE Kindle books all the time. Someday I’m going to not know what to read and I’ll fall back on them.
Recently I got Seize the Night (Dark-Hunter, Book 7) by Sherrilyn Kenyon for Free on Amazon.com. Now I’m addicted to the series and have inhaled 3 of the books in the last 2 days. I’m on a forth book now and nearly finished. Even though the freebie was book #7 of the series I wasn’t lost or confused by the series. It’s an awesome series!
Also, I wouldn’t have read this series if not for the freebie. Why? Because book #1 wasn’t available for the Kindle and I like to start with book #1. But I was given a free book and I read it. Now I plan to read all the books that are available on the Kindle, which is all but book #1 , #3, #5, and #6, which doesn’t make any sense but I’ll read what I can for now and go back.
So, yes, I think some of the free Kindle Editions are well worth the read.
Everyone should own a Kindle! And Nancy D’Inzillo, the Kindle screen in NOTHING like a computer monitor. It’s just like reading a physical book.

Thanks for the clarification! I speak a little Gaelic, taught by my Irish grandmother (who spoke a LOT of Gaelic, lol) and have never even dreamed it was pronounced any other way besides the Gaelic way. And maybe your Celts speak with a Dublin accent as opposed to the way my Limerick or Clare crowd do.
Off to go google those other publishers. Ta!

ack, I want an ebook reader, but due to the DRM issues and non-pdf capability of the Kindle, I’m going to have to pass for now and probably go after a Sony Reader instead. Oh and the fact that I’m in another country and I can’t just miraculously download to my Kindle anywhere I want…

You know, I’ve sent a number of non-secure PDFs to my Kindle and so far they’ve all worked fine. It’s not something most people know, but the Kindle will convert a lot of PDFs and send it to your device.
But I agree, for someone in another country, who can’t utilize the whispernet/Amazon store and take advantage of the wireless capabilities, I think that’s the only advantage the Kindle has over the Sony Reader. Otherwise, I would recommend the Sony. I have one as well and the only reason I use the Kindle more often is the advantage of being able to send all of my submissions/ARCs to myself and save the conversion time.
On the other hand, the Sony has a much sexier design.

Trust me, no-one in Ireland would ever dream of pronouncing it sam-hane. And we would ROTFLOAO at anyone who pronounced it that way over here. :-D

Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t intend for you to feel that way and you definitely shouldn’t. You wouldn’t believe how often I have this conversation! This is actually the second time this week in an online situation. For real, I wasn’t even sure how to pronounce it when I was first told the name. And the reason I finally settled on “sam-hane” instead of “sowin” was the marketing purposes, as I said, to make it easier for people sounding it out phonetically to find it.

Alas, I am Kindle-less ... but not free ebook-less. Visit me if you want some too, I’ve collected 50 so far this year (and I’m not even trying).
I need to upgrade my iPod. It’s just too hard to read ebooks on the Nano screen.
