Bitchin' Blog Posts
For your Daydreams Today
by SB Sarah | October 12, 2008 | Sunday at 7:06 pm | 35 CommentsMy friendly neighborhood Israeli reader Vera sent me this link, and I cannot. stop. looking. at the pictures.
Behold: the most amazing private library I’ve ever seen. Not that I’ve seen many private libraries.
Someone in the comments mentioned a “nerdgasm.” Oh yeah. That.

I’ve always said money isn’t a prime motivator for my writing career. I think I shall now have to rethink that philosophy.
Note to self - earn tons of $$ and spend them on a library like THIS.
Blown. Away.

I can’t pull myself away. There is so much wonderfulness there. I love everything in that library.

Yes, it’s an amazing library. Would I like to have it myself? No. there’s too much stuff there! It is great to look at (as a visitor/tourist), but I prefer less clutter. Even if the clutter is really interesting! Each to their own, as they say! I am happy, thought, that there are people who build huge libraries and collections like this in this day and age. That’s the most amazing thing to me!

Oh my GOD! That library is bigger than my house!

I’ve never wanted to be filthy rich, but that’s one thing I could totally embrace splurging on…
I mean, we have a nice house and a modest private study/library. I love it. But holy geektastic leatherbound nerdy goodness, batman!

Nothing will get done at my house today.
Thank you, SBSarah (and Vera)

Two words: I want.
More than worthy of a nerdgasm.

How absolutely wonderful. That is the 21st-century equivalent of the studies and libraries/cabinets of curiosities of some of the great Enlightenment scholars and thinkers, and it is so reassuring and inspiring to know that there are super-wealthy people today who still aspire to that totally civilised cultural ideal. Raw knowledge, just laid out for use and enjoyment. It is, of course, a museum as well as a library, and it is on that combination, the combination of artefacts and texts, right back to classical antiquity, that the whole advance of knowledge has been founded.
Hence the ‘clutter’: the ‘clutter’ is a collection, and it is integral to the whole concept.
:-D :-D :-D

Nerdgasm is an understatement.
If I ever made that kind of money, that is precisely what I would spend it on. That, and probably exotic ingredients so my fiancé could indulge his culinary experiments.
Hee! My security word was ‘art97’. That library *is* a work of art. Truly.

Well, that kind of puts my dream of some day owning/building a house that has a library with built-in bookshelves all the way around to shame. What an amazing place!
My spamblocker word is “progress”. This thing is really some sort of AI, isn’t it?

That made my pink parts tingle.

I wonder if he is married? Cuz I would volunteer to be his wife if it meant I got to live in his library, forever.
Fantastic room - and the collections, to die for!
My word - miss43. Yes, I am a miss and yes I am 43!

I showed this picture to my 14 year old daughter and she said, “Oh God, mom—do you realize how many horror/fiction/romances we could put in there?”
Well blow me down and sign me up for mommy of the year!

I want a library like that. It’s beautiful. Stunning, Inspiring.
As long as I could afford to pay someone to do the dusting.

I actually gasped so loudly in nerd ecstasy over this library that I scared my dog! Oh my sweet ever lovin’ jebus…is it wrong to want to marry someone for his library? Or maybe just bear children in the hopes that they will be among the school children invited to tour his library, and I can chaperone?
If either of those are wrong, then I don’t want to be right.

Oh my GOD.
I don’t even have words. Just a moan of complete longing. And avarice.
Lisa said on 10.13.08 at 02:56 PM • [comment link]
Want. Want so bad.
Of course, I’m the one who freeze-frames Disney’s Beauty and the Beast to get a better shot of the library. Believe me, Belle, once I saw that thing, I would have stayed with him too.
ev said on 10.13.08 at 02:57 PM • [comment link]
Unfortunately. If you read one of the captions on there it said she gave him the globe as a wedding present.
I was thinking the same thing.
And I would keep the enigma and the plane…

Stupid incoherent brain.

I know the clutter is a collection, and that it is an amazing collection…. but it is also distracting as hell. I’ll take the library itself, and he can keep the stuff - how does that sound?
And the post-its in the Nurenberg Cronicle made me cringe. If it is an original, they should not be there - that’s damaging to the paper. Let’s hope he does not keep them in for a long time - the glue transfers to the pages after a while (as I found out to my chagrin, albeit using a fairly new book).
Good things tastes are diferent, huh?
