There are two things you need to know about this book. First, The Surrender of Miss Fairbourne is $1.99 digitally. Second, this book was the subject of a Book Rant from Heather last fall. So if you're curious, your curiosity will cost you $2.
A woman running a prestigious London auction house? Preposterous! But that is exactly what Emma Fairbourne intends to do when her father dies, leaving her the reins of this fabulous enterprise. Of course, she is not addlepated enough to do this openly and scare away her wealthy collectors. So she and her friend concoct a deception, hiring a handsome and charming front man who will do her bidding...
All would have proceeded smoothly--if it weren't for the maddening interference of Darius, the arrogant Earl of Southwaite, who has been her father's "silent partner" and now shares ownership of Fairbourne's. An earl, of course, has no interest in running an auction house--and Darius is certainly not interested in allowing the lovely Miss Fairbourne to run it either, her ludicrous scheme notwithstanding.

Kobo has an assortment of sales and deals for readers in the US, Canada, and the UK this weekend.
Canada & USA
I've been in Vermont this week on vacation, and it's school break in Quebec, so at least half of Quebec province is here with me. They say theyr'e skiing but I think they're staging a very quiet and friendly coup. Next week most of Ontario will be here, I'm told, as they have spring break. So if you're on break or almost done, Canadian readers, have some deals!
This collection of books is anywhere from 30-70% off March 8th to March 11th at 11:59 pm. This deal is valid in Canada and USA only. On-sale titles include Firefly Lane by Kristen Hannah for $2.99, Stranger in Town by Brenda Novak - and Heartstrings and Diamond Rings by Jane Graves for $2.99, too!
Here is a thing I learned: Sunday March 10 is Mother's Day, or Mothering Sunday, in the UK. Happy Mothering Day, folks in the UK, whether you've got kids or you're important in the life of a…

RECOMMENDED: Double Down was the Sizzling Book Club Pick for September 2012 and is currently FREE at most vendors for a limited time. Woo! Not everyone I know liked this one - I know Jane and I think Mandi thought the hero's sexual hangup was completely ridiculous. I thought his hangups were understandable, and I loved how honest the heroine was about her sexuality.
As part of the 64th Aggressor Squadron, Major Ryan "Fang" Haverty flies like the enemy to teach Allied pilots how not to die. The glittering excess of the Strip can't compare to the glowing jet engines of his F-16. But a sexy, redheaded waitress in seamed stockings? Now she gets his blood pumping.
Cassandra Whitman's good-girl ways haven't earned any slack from her manager ex-boyfriend, or prevented a bad case of frazzle from holding down two and a half jobs. She sure wouldn't mind letting the handsome Southern charmer shake up her routine. Their wild weekend lives up to Sin City's reputation. Especially when they discover a matched passion for roleplaying.

RECOMMENDED: Once Burned is on sale for $1.99 - the new book in the series, Twice Tempted, is out now, and is $6.99 or so. You could get both for $8-9.00. I reviewed Once Burned and gave it a B.
After a tragic accident scarred her body and destroyed her dreams, Leila never imagined that the worst was still to come: terrifying powers that let her channel electricity and learn a person's darkest secrets through a single touch. Leila is doomed to a life of solitude...until creatures of the night kidnap her, forcing her to reach out with a telepathic distress call to the world's most infamous vampire...
Vlad Tepesh inspired the greatest vampire legend of all--but whatever you do, don't call him Dracula. Vlad's ability to control fire makes him one of the most feared vampires in existence, but his enemies have found a new weapon against him - a beautiful mortal with powers to match his own. When Vlad and Leila meet, however, passion ignites between them, threatening to consume them both. It will take everything that they…

RECOMMENDED. I have read this book probably close to 100 times. I can quote some scenes from memory. There are two excellent things I love most. One, as Jane at DA has pointed out, the hero does the pursuing, and the heroine, Honoria, does the resisting. Two, Honoria is a bit of an iconoclast, but part of her strength is in managing a home, because she knows how -- it's not easy, either. Some of my favorite scenes are Honoria managing things - and people. Which is probably why she's the first Cynster bride. Devils' Bride is the first book in the Cynster series, and is $1.99 digitally.
When Devil, the most infamous member of the Cynster family, is caught in a compromising position with plucky governess Honoria Wetherby, he astonishes the entire town by offering his hand in marriage. No one dreamed this scandalous rake would ever take a bride. And as society mamas swooned at the loss of England′s most eligible bachelor, Devil′s infamous Cynster cousins began to place wagers on the wedding date.

In my podcast interview with Kat from Bookthingo, Kat mentioned how much she loves Melina Marchetta. In fact, pretty much all the people I know who have read Marchetta recommend her books eagerly. At $1.99, Jellicoe Road is a great deal.
"What do you want from me?" he asks. What I want from every person in my life, I want to tell him. More.
Abandoned by her mother on Jellicoe Road when she was eleven, Taylor Markham, now seventeen, is finally being confronted with her past. But as the reluctant leader of her boarding school dorm, there isn't a lot of time for introspection. And while Hannah, the closest adult Taylor has to family, has disappeared, Jonah Griggs is back in town, moody stares and all.
In this absorbing story by Melina Marchetta, nothing is as it seems and every clue leads to more questions as Taylor tries to work out the connection between her mother dumping her, Hannah finding her then and her sudden departure now, a mysterious stranger who once whispered something in her ear,…

In the Company of Witches by Joey W. Hill is $1.99. This is paranormal erotic romance, and if you've never read Hill, she writes intense sexual attraction and complex plots that sound completely off the wall but often totally work.
All witch and part succubus, savvy businesswoman Raina has converted a Southern plantation house into an extremely profitable old-fashioned bordello. Because of her abilities as a witch, the demons under Raina’s protection can feed off the sexual energy of their clients without killing them—definitely a good thing for repeat business. But when a rogue incubus shows up on Raina’s doorstep begging for asylum, the witch’s well-run business is put in jeopardy.
The incubus has stolen an object of great power from Lucifer, and Underworld Dark Guardian Mikhael will do anything to get it back—even if it means incinerating the incubus on Raina’s porch to get the answers he seeks. Not to be trifled with, Raina enters a dangerous match of wits with Mikhael to achieve their mutual goals—only to discover that the reluctant attraction between them is…

First up: today's Gold Box (snrk) Deal at Amazon is a collection of albums in mp3 format for $1.99 each. I ended up buying Tegan and Sara's Heartthrob, Fiona Apple's Idler Wheel, and a whole mess of other things, including, yes, I admit it, Britney's greatest hits (my workout playlist got 245% more strange today, y'all).
Also: this juxtaposition of John Denver between Britney and JLo made me irrationally happy:
I think life on the farm was supposed be kinda laid back, but now I'm not so sure.
And now, books on sale!
Eloisa James' A Kiss at Midnight is .99c until 28 February 2013 (probably midnight). It's the first book in her fairy tale series. Miss Kate Daltry doesn't…

Years ago, I had a Sandra Brown omnibus, and this was one of the books in it. I think I've read Mirror Image a dozen or more times. Published in 1990, it's over-the-top dishy crazysauce with mistaken identity and plastic surgery and double crossing - it's fun. This is a $1.99 pre-order and the book releases tomorrow, Tuesday 26 February, so I bet the price will change soon. It's kind of amazing how often in romance someone could end up with someone else's face.
The crash of a Dallas-bound jet wasn't just a tragedy to TV reporter Avery Daniels; it was an act of fate that handed her a golden opportunity to further her career. Mistaken for a glamorous, selfish woman named Carole Rutledge, the badly injured Avery would find that plastic surgery had given her Carole's face, the famous senatorial candidate Tate Rutledge for a husband, and a powerful Texas dynasty for in-laws. And as she lay helpless in the hospital, she would make a shattering discovery: Someone close to Tate planned to assassinate him. Now, to…

Maureen Johnson's The Name of the Star is $2.99 today digitally. The second book in the series, The Madness Underneath, comes out on Tuesday 26 February.
The day Louisiana teenager Rory Deveaux arrives in London marks a memorable occasion. For Rory, it's the start of a new life at a London boarding school. But for many, this will be remembered as the day a series of brutal murders broke out across the city, gruesome crimes mimicking the horrific Jack the Ripper in the autumn of 1888.
Soon "Rippermania" takes hold of modern-day London, and the police are left with few leads and no witnesses. Except one. Rory spotted the man police now believe to be the prime suspect. But she is the only one who saw him. Even her roommate, who was with her at the time, didn't notice the mysterious man. So why can only Rory see him? And more urgently, why has Rory become his next target? In this edge-of-your-seat thriller, full of suspense, humor, and romance, Rory will learn the truth…

If I try to explain this book, I kind of sound like I'm on something rather exceptional, but this book really rocked my world. If you ask me about it in person, I'll gesture with my hands and make Good Book Noise™ and try to explain how much this book changed the way I view things. I converted from Episcopalianism to Judaism 13 years ago, but this book, which I read about 12 years ago, made me appreciate my former faith and culture, my current faith and culture, and, most importantly, the way in which thinking of Christ as a person instead of as a mythic figure can change the way one understands the various interpretations of Christ.
The basic premise is that the angels resurrect Levi, known as Biff, who was Christ's best friend during the missing years of the gospel - better known as Jesus' adolescence. The angels stick Biff in a hotel room and ask him to write down his gospel, and the story found in the…

Today only at Amazon, Exclusively Yours is free for the Kindle. If you haven't read the Kowalski series, what more could you ask for (aside from having the book read to you by a suede-voiced narrator while you get a pedicure and enjoy a cocktail)? I gave this book a B+ and have since re-read it at least once. Free is an awesome price.
CRAPMONKEYS. It's not free anymore. I'm sorry y'all.
