Dear Bitches, Smart Authors Podcast: We’re back! And we’re talking about romance!

by SB Sarah | August 19, 2011 | Friday at 12:57 pm | 0 Comments

Back in 2009, Jane Litte and I did a few podcasts about romance novels. We’re BACK. And the audio is NOT AS GOOD.

My apologies for that.

But we’re back, and we’re talking about what we’re reading, and which Harlequin Presents we both enjoy. Plus, we discuss at length a historical romance that’s coming out in December that we both adored and cannot wait to share with readers.

You can subscribe to our feed at Feedburner or at iTunes.

Mp3 is available for download as well. PLEASE for the love of God right click and save, k? Esosoft and I will thank you.

Future podcasts will involve interviews with anyone who will take our calls, and fun discussions of romances past, present and future. If you have content suggestions, tips on how to do this whole thing better, or general wtf-ery comments, email us. It’s all welcome because a) we are new to this and b) we don’t really know what we are doing so the wtf comments are probably all valid. The email address for the podcast is sbjpodcast@gmail.com.

Thanks to Jane, and to Sarah Outwater, who provided… read more »

Dear Bitches, Smart Authors Podcast: Romantic Tropes, Carolyn Jewel, and Female Empowerment

by SB Sarah | March 10, 2009 | Tuesday at 10:01 am | 3 Comments

Welcome to another podcast Tuesday. It’s not every Tuesday, but every other Tuesday, but regardless, grab your nearest audio device and give a listen: it’s podcast time!

Jane and I discuss our favorite romance tropes, from the friends-to-lovers to the makeover plot, and all the tropes in between that we cannot resist. Then Carolyn Jewel is with us to talk about female empowerment, or the lack thereof, in historical times, and how the true history of the political, economic, and social status of women can make for some painfully fascinating characters.

Dear Bitches, Smart Authors Podcast: Victoria Dahl, Small Towns, and Talkin’ Dirty

by SB Sarah | February 24, 2009 | Tuesday at 11:45 am | 6 Comments

Jane and I are back with yet another podcast. Victoria Dahl joins us to talk about switching genres from historical to contemporary, living in small towns, and writing heroines with sexual authority.

Then, we discuss talking dirty - in novels.

Sarah says, “Damn, Beavis.” Jane says she doesn’t have a wide vocabulary of a very special nature, and we float the potential of a Very Special Instructional Podcast in the future. (Not really).

Dear Bitches, Smart Authors Podcast: Powerful Heroines with Author Claudia Dain

by SB Sarah | February 11, 2009 | Wednesday at 9:05 pm | 16 Comments

I think the download problem has been solved. I received my merry podcast m4a file within iTunes just fine. Please let me know if you have any problems with the files. Sorry for the snafu.

Author Claudia Dain joins us to talk about The Courtesan Chronicles and the role of empowered women in historical romance.Book Cover Dain also discusses the challenge of creating a powerful female character - who is not your 11pm bootycall.

Jane and I also ruminate on the rarity of the empowered, clever heroine who actively pursues what she wants without compunction.

Introducing Dear Bitches, Smart Authors: the Podcast

by SB Sarah | December 30, 2008 | Tuesday at 9:46 pm | 9 Comments

Sarah’s too close to the phone, Jane is driving, and we’re recording our conversation. Want to listen in?

This is the feed to the podcast and you can click on this link to add it to iTunes.  We can’t curse on the podcast due to iTunes content restrictions. (Dammit fuck).

Feel free to give us content suggestions, tips on how to do this whole thing better, or general wtf-ery comments.  It’s all welcome because a) we are new to this and b) we don’t really know what we are doing so the wtf comments are probably all valid.  The email address for the podcast is .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

The challenge of time continuity is epic fun in the “What?” department. We reference Dahl’s book and the Save the Contemporary as “in progress” because this was recorded before we launched the contest - and we talk about layoffs “this week” when in fact publishing is closed for the holidays. Whee! Newbie errors, we has them!

As Jane says, we are the picture of amateurs. Come watch us grow! Or, listen, as the case may be.

We’re going to be making this a regular… read more »
