March 23, 2010 | Tuesday at 4:28 am | 1 Comments

Is your bracket destroyed?  Did your picks go awry? Do you find yourself tied for 500th place and full of despair?  Weep no more, bracketeers, because our 2nd Chance Tourney is created just for you.  The stakes aren’t as high but the prizes are just as fine.

The winning bracketeer is going to get a brand new Kindle from the fine folks at Samhain.

Jennifer Estep, author of the new Elemental Assassin series, is contributing a $50 Amazon gift card, a copy of Spider’s Bite and an e-ARC of Web of Lies? And matching bookmarks, of course. Because you can never have too many bookmarks.  This prize will go to a RANDOM non winning bracketologist.  Hopefully someone tied for 500th place.

Go forth and pick new brackets and be hopeful once again.

What’s Better Than 666?

March 17, 2010 | Wednesday at 6:39 pm | 1 Comments

What could be better or worse than 666? 999 - the total number of entries allowed by the tournament software. And we’re getting close to that number, much to our surprise and delight!

So heads up: bracket pick time ends tonight at 8pm EST - OR when we hit 999 entries, whichever comes first! As of 12:30 pm EST we had over 780 entries, so, in the words of philosopher and sage Larry the Cable Guy,  “Arrange the completion of your tasks post haste!”

Voting will begin tonight - YES TONIGHT - at midnight EST at the DABWAHA Blog, and there will be sets of multiple polls running for twelve hours so as to make all the time zones happy. We’re sluts for your time zones like that. You can test the polls here and check that your bracket has been uploaded, too.

Any questions - let’s hear ‘em. It’s almost time for Round 1!

DA BWAHA Recently Asked Questions

March 15, 2010 | Monday at 8:14 pm | 4 Comments

Jane and I have received a few email messages and some questions about the 2010 DABWAHA so she and I drew up a brief FAQ to answer them. Feel free to ask if you’re confused about anything!

Q.  Who picked the books?

A.  Sarah and Jane did with some help from Jane’s blogging mates

Q:  Why isn’t X book on there?

A:  We don’t know but probably because there were so many good books, it was hard to cull down to just 8 per category.

Q:  Why does the Bracket have abbreviated titles and no author names?

A:  The software has a character limitation and so we are only allotted so much space.  You may want to print out the printable finalist lists to help you discern the title of each book with the author.

Q:  Can I submit more than one bracket?

A:  We ask that you don’t.  We will have a second chance tournament.

Q:  Can I resubmit my bracket choices?

A:  Yes, anytime until Wednesday at 8 pm, EST.

Q:  I’m trying to tell people to vote for me - but they can’t find where to vote! What’s going on?

DABWAHA Final Match: Iron Kissed v. The Spymaster’s Lady

April 06, 2009 | Monday at 11:00 am | 10 Comments

DABWAHAAfter many a bracket and much trash talking, it’s down to two books:

Patricia Briggs’ “Iron Kissed” vs. Joanna Bourne’s “Spymaster’s Lady.” Quite a battle: exceptionally-researched and written historical romance with plot twists and uncommon characters battling conspiracy and mystery, pitted against a paranormal series with a kick-ass heroine in an entirely different era dealing with werewolves and… conspiracy and mystery. Two very different books yet both are similar in key areas: strong characters, nimble writing, deft twists and turns, and incredibly absorbing writing.

Jane asked Joanna Bourne and Patricia Briggs to do a quick interview to highlight their books in the final match, and their answers are highly awesome.

DA BWAHA Final Four

April 03, 2009 | Friday at 2:00 pm | 0 Comments

sidebarlogoWe are at a crucial juncture in the Final Four at the DABWAHA.  Who will survive to the Championship Round?  You decide with your votes. (cue ominous music).

Will it be urban fantasy tear jerker, Iron Kissed by Patricia Briggs?  Possibly contemporary favorite, Blue Eyed Devil by Lisa Kleypas.  Or historical breakout The Spymaster’s Lady by Joanna Bourne (would she rather win the DABWAHA or the RITA?).  Maybe Maya Banks’ polyamorous tale of love between one woman and three men (yes, shocking isn’t it?) will be the surprise darkhouse winner.

Here’s the voting schedule

Iron Kissed v. Blue Eyed Devil, 12 PM EDT, April 3, 2009, to 12 AM EDT, April, 4, 2009 The Spymaster’s Lady v. Be With Me 12 PM EDT, April 4, 2009, to 12 AM EDT, April, 5, 2009

It’s DABWAHA Time: Let the Voting Begin!

March 19, 2009 | Thursday at 2:28 pm | 5 Comments

DABWAHA It’s time.  The books have been nominated, seeded and slated against each other.  Over 700 brackets were filled out.  (That’s twice as many as last year).  We’ve got some mad prizes: a Sony Reader for the one bracket that rules them all and a Sony Reader for the author who penned the Champion of the DABWAHA tournament.

This year, we are handing out prizes at the end of each round to the top scoring bracket.  Each right pick gives you points.  The goal, obviously, is to have the most right picks.  Even though your brackets are locked and you can’t change your choices, you still can effectuate the outcome by getting people to vote for the book you want to advance.

Voting starts on March 19, 2009, at 6:00 AM EST.  Each set of polls will run for 6 hours.  The set of polls will close and a new set will open recursively until March 21, 2009, at 6:00 AM EST when the last set of polls will close.  Results will be updated at the end of the day.

This is the voting site.  You should bookmark this link. … read more »

DA BWAHA 2008: It’s Bracket Time

March 15, 2009 | Sunday at 10:00 am | 14 Comments

sidebarlogoIt’s time for the Dear Author Bitchery Writing Award for Hellagood Authors or DA BWAHA.  For newcomers, this is a tournament of books that mimics the March Madness tournament of basketball.  We’ve picked a slate of 64 books in 8 different categories to compete against each other through the next few weeks.  We welcome all participants regardless of whether you are an author, reader, reviewer or someone who doesn’t even have an interest in romance books.  We encourage authors who have books in the tournament to fill out a bracket and pick yourself to win.  There’s no hubris here. Only fun.

From today through Wednesday, March 18, 2009, you will be able to fill out your bracket.  You can change your bracket selection at anytime prior to the end of March 18, 2009, 11:00 PM EST.

We will not be able to accept any late brackets because of the software limitations (i.e., we put in a deadline in the software program and that controls the entry of brackets).  If you have already pre registered, you will be able to pick your name from the dropdown box.

There is always going to be a… read more »
