Buy a Contemporary, Save the World: Talk Me Down by Victoria Dahl
by SB Sarah | December 15, 2008 | Monday at 7:00 pm | 187 Comments
Here’s the deal: we dig this book. We dig this book like damn and whoa, and we think you will too. And yet, so many people say the contemporary romance is a dying breed. So, in order to spread the word and the opportunity to read it we’re doing a multi-level giveaway in tandem with our reviews of Talk Me Down.
In conjunction with the great giveaway below, Borders is offering a $1.00 coupon on any order of Talk Me Down to help “save the contemporary” but mostly to help debut contemporary writer Victoria Dahl and her book Talk Me Down. Visit Borders.com between December 15, 2008, and January 15, 2009, and you can save $1 on Talk Me Down. Simply enter promotion code HAR1222D during checkout.
Now, onto the giveaway:
Part the First: free books! Leave a comment with the preferred format (i.e., paper/ebook), and you’re automatically entered to win a copy. We each have 5 paper copies of the book plus 2 ebooks to give away, so drop a word here and at Dear Author and double your chances. Comments will be open for 48 hours starting now.
Second: Spread the Word! Below is a Sprout widget about our campaign, and a simpler animated graphic. Right-click-and-save the graphic, or grab the Sprout for yourself, and put it on your site. Let us know that you’ve done so .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), and you’ll be entered to win a copy of the book, plus a 1GB iPod shuffle, and a $75 gift certificate to iTunes.
Spread the word, let us know, and you’re entered to win. That’s it.

The Spread the Word winner will be announced in 1 week, so tune in on Monday 22 December to see who wins a book, an iPod, and some righteous tunage in our quest to Save the Contemporary.
Why? Because if there’s one thing that makes us sad, it’s the idea of contemporary romance dying out. So spread the word, buy a contemporary (with the coupon code at Borders for a $1.00 (HAR1222D), and save the world.

I didn’t know that contemporary was in trouble! What will we be left with? Regency lords, Scottish lairds in kilts and cowboys riding into the sunset? Not terrible, I’ll admit, but everyone needs a little contemporary in their lives or else the romance genre just becomes one gigantic, horrible cliche. I’d be happy to win either one and good luck Victoria with your book!

For those asking about using ebooks on a Mac: From what I understand since the ebook industry is still floundering in terms of which formats are the most dominant, they’ve bascially written off the Mac for the time being until things pick up enough for them to focus on that still relatively small demographic. The easiest solution is (unfortunately) to have Parellels running some sort of PC operating system which should in turn be able to run whatever format you want. All in all, a big pain in the booty.
I love books in any format so bring it on!

I’m all about saving the contemporary romance, so I posted it on both of my blogs:
http://blog.aubreycurry.com/
http://blog.renaejohnson.net/
There’s something wonky going on with the code, but I don’t feel like fixing it right now (as long as the widget’s working, I’m okay with it). I also posted it on Facebook and LiveJournal for good measure, especially after reading the AP article about Powell’s having to ask employees to take sabbaticals because their sales are so low.
If I should happen to get lucky enough to win, I’d be happy with paper or ebook.

black59—It would be a black day in more than 59 ways the day the contemporary dies. What would Brockmann, Leigh, et al do with themselves.

For the longest time I just was not interested in contemporaries. I was looking fr something completely different than every day life. contemporaries. I wanted something completely different from my reality, but some of the paranormals started drawing me in to more contemporary settings and now I enjoy contemporary romances too.
I would like this in e-book. PDF format. I wouldn’t mind it in print though.

As a very new convert to romance, I must admit that I haven’t yet read a contemporary and thus feel that winning a wonderful one would be delightful. Please mark me down for paper.

E-book. Because I live in India and shipping would be a pain. If I ever, like, win, that is.

Stupid question: Would LiveJournal be okay for the promotional bit, or is that reserved for people with real blogs/sites?

ooh, ebook please.
After reading about your adventures in Kindle-having, I bought a Sony ebook reader (Kindles are out of stock for 11-13 weeks and I am a creature of impulse), and I’ve bought some ebooks, downloaded every free ebook you guys have promoted, and I copied and pasted together all of Greenwood from the list of links Laura Vivanco and Quivo pulled together—but it still needs more books (I bought an 8 gig memory stick, it needs LOTS more books!)

Paper too. ebooks are useful when I travel but…. there is nothing like the smell of a new book :)
Also, please, save contemporary romance ! Although I love paranormal, historic and all the others, I prefer a contemporary :)

Sounds like a cute book. I’m looking for more writers like SEP, and this (by reading the review) sounds like it’ll come pretty darn close.
And sure I’ll buy it if I don’t win one!!
But if I do…
Paper, please.
