Borders Official Bookseller of RomCon 2010
by SB Sarah | November 22, 2009 | Sunday at 12:39 pm | 9 CommentsOn Friday a press release went out announcing that Borders is now the official bookseller of RomCon 2010, which takes place in Denver on July July 9-11:
Borders is the official on-site bookseller and will manage author signings as well as provide support for “The Readers’ Crown” published author contest being held in conjunction with the conference. Registration for RomCon is available at romconinc.com.
Slated for Friday through Sunday, July 9-11, 2010 in Denver, Colo., the conference will bring readers and aspiring authors from all over to celebrate their number one passion—Romance fiction. While at the convention, attendees will enjoy a variety of informative panel discussions, lectures and roundtable discussions led by published authors, Romance genre experts as well as readers themselves. The convention won’t be all work—attendees will enjoy some fun at the costume ball as well as the black and white masquerade on Friday and Saturday nights, respectively.
Authors can now enter their books for the Readers’ Crown award, and the winners will be announced at the Friday night awards ceremony during RomCon 2010. So, you going to RomCon? Any authors you know on board? I’m trying my damndest to arrange my schedule so that I can attend.

Isn’t RomCon organized by Borders? Is there some reason they wouldn’t be the official bookseller of their own con? Have I misunderstood something about who’s behind the conference?
I would love to hear if there are readers planning to attend.

This is too new for me to attend. I would give it a few years and then see if it would be worth going. And how is the different from the RT book Convention or Nationals?

It is exciting to have another reader’s forum! I just checked out the RomCon website and Borders is organizing it. Perhaps the press release was just a formality. It looks like RomCon will mirror RT. RT is typcially held in the spring and rotates throughout the country. So RomCon offers an alternative if a reader cannot attend on RT’s date or at RT’s location. I believe there is enough room for both! The RWA National Convention is the annual gathering of its members. It is more oriented to the business of writing for its aspiring or published authors. RWA does not offer the parties as RT (and now RomCon).
But I plan to attend all three from Hawaii!

Hmm, since I live in a suburb of Denver, I might could probably oughta go. So here’s one reader planning it, Angela. (Congrats on the new job, BTW.)

I’ve been thinking about attending RomCon. RWA wasn’t for me, as a reader; although I enjoyed the experience, I feel no need to repeat it in Nashville. So it’s between this and RT, and this one is timed better and is in a location I’m more likely to visit on vacation.

I’m hoping to go, if I’m not out of the country then. The author list is interesting so far.

I’m wondering if all of the very recent Borders closings will effect this.

By the way, does anyone else LOVE (equals finds hilarious) the Dreamspinner Press advent calendar ad that keeps popping up on the right hand side of the website? You know, the one with the hunky guy hanging mistletoe. And don’t forget the mistletoe on his underwear (hee hee). I adore the covers and ads for M/M romance.
